    Lap Band Surgery

Hmmmm…not sure I like your doctor. You can always switch. But as far as the restriction goes, are you feeling satisfied after 3-4oz of Protein? If so then you are good. If you get hungry less than 3 hours later, then you may need more Fluid. If not, then you should feel blessed that you are not refluxing and gagging and all of the other stuff that can happen with the band. My surgeon just told me that this WLS is not supposed to feel like a punishment. I'm not sure who said that you should not be able to eat anything. You should be able to. BUT, that doesn't mean you should eat it. You've still got to eat the right kinds of foods. Even the bands with the most restriction will let ice cream and pudding through. I guess what I'm saying is, it sounds like you may be unnecessarily concerned. You're losing almost 10 lbs a month. That's pretty darn awesome!

    November Banders

@@Ldimples - food tastes great to me! I was so sick of Protein shakes I'm just so happy to be chewing. My new thing is grabbing a bowl from chipotle…lot's of great flavors and quite healthy. Not sure why it would taste different. What stage of diet are you on?

    Going in for first fill.

I was sharing on another thread that I had my first fill yesterday. It was so quick. No pain…pretty much exactly like Bandista's. What was unusual about me is that my surgeon placed 6cc in my band during surgery which is almost unheard of. He said that I didn't have much of a fat pad around my stomach. So they added 0.5cc to my band which already had 6cc for a total of 6.5cc. I go back in 2 weeks. I was on liquids for 24 hours and was able to eat normally today without any issues. I stayed full almost 1 hour longer than I did with the 6cc. So maybe just half a cc more and I'll be in the green zone. @@sandeebar - The green zone is when your band has just the right amount of Fluid to keep you feeling satisfied for at least 4 hours without snacking. If you have to snack, you're not in the green zone (or you just want to snack and are making the excuse that you're hungry).
  4. grilled chicken nuggets from chic fil a, ham with pepper jack cheese rolled up in it. Bowls with blacked Beans, and chopped seasoned chicken, onion and green peppers, one egg, chill cheese omelet (one of my faves!), turkey chili with cheese, and vegetable beef Soup.

Dr. Wright did my surgery too (on November 13th).

    3 weeks post op.

What a surprise! I had my fill today and there were 6cc in my band already. They put the 6cc back in and added 0.5cc for a total of 6.5cc. The provider told me that the doctor noted that I did not have a large fat pad and therefore he put more in band than usual during surgery. No issues so far. I'm on liquids only for 24 hours then I can do soft foods and move to regular food if I tolerate it well. It was really quick and not very uncomfortable at all.

    November banders - first fill?

    Fill is this morning!

    3 weeks post op.

Mine was "primed" with 2-3 CCs. They will see exactly and perhaps add a little more on Monday. I don't want too much though because I don't want to start throwing up and all of the other horrors I keep reading about. I'm losing about half a pound a day, so I just want to be able to keep that up without feeling hungry. I ate pizza topping today…skipped the crust, but it was still pretty satisfying. Let me know how your fill goes and I'll do the same.

    3 weeks post op.

We are totally on the same schedule! I have mine on Monday as well. I feel a little restriction, but not a ton. I ate steak on Sunday and that was definitely not as easy as my normal chicken and fish. Besides that, I'm sure I could eat anything, but I'm not going to. I have no soreness at all at the port site, and my other 3 incisions are barely visible. Healing well, but I think I definitely need a tiny bit more Fluid because I get hungry almost exactly every 3-4 hours.

    Before and during...

Wow! You look awesome! Great work!

    Is this wrong? Workplace fun!

    Awesome. :-)
  12. Panniculectomy is different from abdominoplasty, in that abdominoplasty tightens the muscle as well as removes excess skin and fat, but a panniculectomy is performed only to remove excess skin and fat. Veggies?

I have eaten a small salad. Chewed it well…no issues. I've also had cooked green Beans that were pretty easy to eat too.

    What is happening?

I'm definitely only in the beginning, so yeah I have lots of rules to follow for now. But I'm looking forward to a healthier me so I'm keeping my eye on the prize. Down 15 lbs so I'm off to a good start!

    November banders - first fill?

Mine is this week, but for the life of me I cannot remember if it's Wednesday or Thursday. I will report back as well.

    What is happening?

Interesting. My nutritionist said that lean cuts of red meat were fine in moderation. I have eaten mostly turkey and fish, but the filet should be easier to eat than say a sirloin. Plus it's very lean and is a good source of Iron. I was not, however, encouraged to have cocktails being that they can be high in calories, depending on the type. Since beer is full of wheat, I will be avoiding it. It made me bloated before WLS...I can only imagine what it would do to me now. When I'm further along in my weight loss, I'll probably have a glass of red wine.

    What is happening?

Yeah, I got cleared to start solid food the day before Thanksgiving. Yesterday I had veggies and a 3oz of a filet (which I chose because it is the most tender cut) and it felt like it took all afternoon to eat it. Then I was full for nearly 6 hours! I was super careful to chew it really well, but it definitely took a lot more time to go down than anything else I've eaten. Chicken and fish goes down pretty easily. The steak...not so much. Tasted great though.
  18. Only my husband and my best friend know. Not my mom...that would be so dramatic. Not my kids...I didn't want my daughters to get a complex. No one else needs to know. Weight is not flying off of me fast enough to draw extreme attention. In 6 months or so, I figure people will start asking and I'll just tell them about my eating habits. The rest is none of their business. :-)

5th fill and little to no restriction

Definitely ask your surgeon. That seems like a lot of ccs to be feeling no restriction at all.

    Your dream outfit

I have a few! 1. Something backless. 2. My Abercrombie & Fitch jeans(last worn when I weighed 142 lbs) 3. Shorts that don't have to go to my knees. 4. Leggings and knee high boots with a top that doesn't necessarily have to cover my butt.
  21. I know that the length of the pre-op diet is related to your BMI. They decide how long you should be on to shrink the liver before surgery based on it.
  22. Interesting. I was told that I could shower with the glue..just no scrubbing and no submerging in water.
  23. I have 4. They were closed with a clear glue which has now just naturally worn off in the shower over the past couple of weeks.
  24. Yes I had the same issue. I slept propped up on a small mountain of pillows, which also helped with gas pains. Now that I'm almost 2 weeks, post op, I can sleep normally again.
