  1. I had some pain like that in the first few weeks they did scans and determined it was muscular. I actually went to the chiropractor and he said a big part of it was that I was out of line which is common when being in the hospital bed for few days and then your own bed. After he adjusted me I felt great. That could be what you need.

  2. Prior to surgery I was taking quite a bit of insulin in the am and the pm along with taking victoza. When I was in the hospital for surgery, they stopped my insulin and never put me back on it. In fact my A1C numbers have dropped down to 5.6 and they were at 11 prior to surgery. So you may not need to be on it for long. I would definitely check your sugars 4 times a day and give those readings to your PCP so they adjust your insulin.

  3. you could bring bananas, those little apple sauce cups, Protein Powder and you can get bottled Water on plane or before you get on to mix it with, tuna in packets (if allowed). and drink lots of water. You may find that you don't need alot. I can eat something and it will be hours before I am even hungry again. You can always get a Protein Drink in after you land or if you have a layover and that will help with your Protein intake.

  4. I have not eaten regular bread but i eat wraps all the time. I will eat chicken or steak wraps and don't have any problems with it. When i first tried it, i had difficulties with it feeling like it was getting stuck, but tried it again several weeks later and now no problems. If something doesn't feel right eating it at first, wait 2-3 weeks and try again and it could be different. That is one thing my doctor stressed to me.

  5. you may not even need to take those medications after surgery. I took a long acting insulin, short acting insulin, and Victoza all prior to surgery. After my surgery, they stopped all my insulin. They said it was because they didn't want me bottoming out taking them especially when I was in the liquid phase. As I progressed in foods, my numbers stayed low and now I am eating solids and my numbers are still low and not back on any diabetic meds. This surgery was the best thing that could've happened for my diabetes.

  6. I have a history of blood clots ,but the hospital kept a close eye on it. They gave me shots of blood thinners several times a day. Had me up and walking several times a day and I had the compression devices on my legs. My surgeon also sent me home with 3 weeks of injections to take. The hospital does a great job of staying on top of things and making sure there are no complications like that.

  7. I had pains like that at about 3 weeks out. When I took a deep breath it hurt in my ribs and my back and sometimes in my chest. I went to see my surgeon and he ran several tests. Said there weren't any leaks, clots, etc. and that everything with my surgery went well. They came to the conclusion that it was musculoskeletal and that i threw something out of whack between the hospital beds and my beds. So they suggested going to get a massage or going to the chiropractor. I went to the chiropractor and he cracked me and since then I have not had any pain like that. He said that I was really out of line and that is what was causing all that pain.

  8. I am 3 weeks post op. Everything has been going well for the most part. Ever since the day after surgery, I have had mild back pain but tonight at work I had the worst pain I have ever had. I am experiencing pain in the middle of my back and also in my chest. I do not have my gall bladder, had it removed many years ago. The pain in my chest is like almost like I am short of breath at times. I am just wondering what this could be. I wonder if between the hospital bed and my own bed if I could have thrown something out in my back and just need an adjustment by my chiropractor or if it could be something more. If it is something as simple as needing an adjustment, how soon after surgery would you recommend going to the chiropractor. I just don't want anything to happen to my stitches or incisions.

  9. Good luck to everyone else on here with tomorrow as the big day. I am getting nervous and excited for tomorrow. I have to be there at 5:30am and surgery is at 7:30am so up at 3am to to get ready and travel there. Like the other ones I see, I won't be able to eat or drink anything until the following day when they do the swallow test. I am packing my bag tonight. It has been nice to hear what you guys are packing so I have an idea on what to put in it.

  10. SuzeMuze--

I have the same problem sometimes when I am at my desk. Unfortunately, most of my job is at my desk so I just need to learn to retrain myself and not snack at it.

Kamcar-- My surgery is at 7:30am too and I also have to be checked in by 5:30. Got to love being up bright and early :) What makes it even better is that I am an hour away from the city I have surgery in so will be up even earlier lol I just figure I will be sleeping through the surgery and probably lots after so I can catch up on my sleep that way. LOL

  11. My doctor's office sent the information in to Blue Cross Blue Shield on 2/10. They told me it could be anywhere from 2-8 weeks until the insurance company approves it. I called the insurance company on 2/12 to make sure that they got everything the doctors sent in, to put my mind at ease, and found out that they had approved it on 2/10. So mine took less than a day to approve. Every insurance company is different, but they will let you know the status if you call them.

  12. I had my first appt with my surgeon on 1/12/15. I completed all my testing and my surgeon's office sent all the information to my insurance (BC/BS) on 2/10. I just received my letter in the mail today that they also approved my surgery on 2/10. Who would've thought that they approved it in less than a day when the surgeon's office told me it could be 2 to 8 weeks. Now I wonder what happens next. Do you automatically get a date from the surgeon and then it is surgery or do you have to go through pre-op classes? I do know from seeing the nutritionist that I have a 1 week pre op diet consisting of liquids and lean meats and vegetables. I would like to hear others experiences from approval to surgery and any tips you have on shopping for pre-op and post op diets. Thanks

  13. I have just a quick question. Did everyone need someone to be with them the first few nights out of the hospital to take care of them or were they able to do things on their own. My mom will be taking me too and from the hospital and only lives 8 blocks from where I live, but I was wondering if I need her to spend the night or if I would be ok on my own at home. I live alone. My kid is in college. I would be interested in knowing people's thoughts and experiences. Thanks
