Self Pay Insurance
OKCPirate replied to Cutepretty1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did mine in Mexico. It was highly affordable and too tell you the truth, I think better than all the crap they make you do in the states (if you do your homework ahead of time). -
Yep, doing in this in my 50's was not crazy...waiting this long may have been stupid though

@@Djmohr - It's funny how one day you are fine with something and the next day you are not. I had some ground bison and it just didn't sit well with me, yet a few days later its fine. I don't get it, but oh well, it is the life on the sleeve...

My machine kept track of my sleep episodes, when I quit breathing et al. I saw improvement every week. The most improvement occurred when I dropped 30#'s. When I went a week without any episodes I packed up my machine and sent it to my mom (her's had broke). Glad to be rid of the beast. It's a great tool when you need it.

I had gout pre-opp. I have not had a flair up post surgery. Did they confirm by looking for the crystals or just go by the symptoms? I have found that hydration beats medication. So take it as a warning sign, the other danger of not getting enough Water is gall stones. My mom had those and they kept treating her like she was having a heart attack.

@@hellohealthy - I swear my sleeve has a mind of its own. Some days I can eat everything, some days its two bites. I wish I could give you specifics (bring a scale and measure 4 oz) but it doesn't seem to b that way. But heck, may be part of being human and learning to listening to your body and not social cues...

The Mexican sleeve is so much sexier than the Gringo version Seriously...you are from Kansas, land of the bland, what does that have to do with quality food? (Well it's not as bad as Iowa bu that's another post) After a month, I found that everything was up for grabs. Thankfully nothing sans doughy products were off limits for me, so in three weeks you will find your limits. But start spicing up your Soups and see if anything bugs your new sleeve.

Will I lose weight
OKCPirate replied to sarahlindsay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, been there, felt that, have a t-shirt. All I can say is it has been wonderful on the other side. Take some time to explore the site, we have all had fear going in. Most have had great experiences on the other side. Do you know how cool it is not to have to think about "how am I going to cut my toe nails?" No more inhale reach, exhale, breathe... Read here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/ Regain your reason for doing this... -
Maintenance is much more difficult than the loss, that's why WLS is such a good tool. This may give you some understanding: http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/health/blog/nutrition/2014/05/the_reason_you_cant_keep_the_w.html Great job to date though and congrats and welcome to the family.

@@Lexuskela - I use what I call the 10% rule. Increase everything calories, Protein and exercise by 10% per week until things stall (either you hurt, weight loss stops or other things go wrong) and stay there until things get good again. Then go back to increasing 10%. Those are the top three metrics I can think of to track. You are going to want the muscle to provide contour to your shrinking skin.

The answer to your title questions is "YES*." But the * is for emotionally healthy people. I have some former lovers that are very good, dear friends. I also have some that I will never speak to again (and I am very sure the feeling is mutual). I had lunch with a lady the other day that I really liked and had hoped she was "the one" that I saw too many red flags. I never made it personal nor one sided, but I think the red flags were too big to ignore. I didn't completely close the door, but I let her know my boundaries and why I needed to pull back. So I think it is possible for adults to have these conversations. Now, I have had the other extreme where the other party is not willing to discuss, but instead engage in personal attacks and make threats. At this point in my life I'm just not willing to play games, I prefer honest dealings with people and if they are emotionally unstable, well that's not my fault, nor is it anything I can do anything about. Just my $.02

Any Lawyers Out There?
OKCPirate replied to nicash4's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@nicash4 - Oh, that is a hospital/billing office problem. I had the same thing happen where my ex-wife gets stuff from doctors I saw when we were both on the same insurance. Since it has been over five years and I was paying for the procedure I didn't even think to make sure their record was up to date, but they mindlessly filed with insurance anyway. She got notice that insurance wasn't going to pay for it because I wasn't on the policy (duh) and a complete run down of my colonoscopy (oh, the horrible night of a 1000 showers). Embarrassing, but I thing that might be where the problem lies.
