I went protein crazy!
OKCPirate replied to gettingsleeved1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On amazon they are $64 for a 12 pack. Seems pricey to me for drink. Sent from my KFTHWI using the BariatricPal App Check GNC. $20 cheaper -

Eh, not so much with the vet group. If you don't want to read about d*ck size you know to stay out of the guy's and you don't want to hear about monthly's you stay out of the ladies room. Veteran's issues seem to be across the board IMHO. -
@@LEILE - "People are more similar than not. A lot of emotions come up after surgery. For me, it was a lot of anger. I wanted to leave my partner of 6 years--he was so annoying ALL OF A SUDDEN. I still have a long ways to go on this journey--I am almost 6 months out, but I am not going to invite any life changing newness into my life and I am not going to discard anything important from my life for the next at least 6 months. I really struggle with food, even still. Food for me, has been my constant companion for over 25 years and putting that down makes me want to pick up something else. Whenever people on this site talk about passing their mental health inspection--because they DON'T have an eating disorder, hence they could get the surgery--I just shake my head. No one I have ever met, gets to be super obese because they have a genetics problem and are otherwise the picture of perfect mental health." I was on an emotional roller coaster after the first month for nearly 6 months. In retrospect it is funny, but I'm glad I didn't make any life changing decisions. I fell in love, hated them soon after, jumped in bed too quick et.al. The "hormone dump" that goes along with rapid weight loss affects everyone differently. This is not always a reflection of the state of someone's mental health IMHO. Very few people here are in the "super obese" category. Most are strugglers. We dieted, went up and down for a wide variety of reasons, and screwed our damn metabolism up. Now very few know about this aspect of dieting, and in 30 years they will be teaching this in school, but right now it is too new. I am sorry but I am convinced the result of yo-yo dieting is a screwed up set-point for weight that will always result in a return to the high weight unless you go to extreme Dr. Dean Ornish diet program.

You know, with all the future people on the losers bench, I'm feeling this groove coming on... Ooh-oo child Things are gonna get easier Ooh-oo child Things'll get brighter Ooh-oo child Things are gonna get easier Ooh-oo child Things'll get brighter Some day, yeah We'll get it together and we'll get it all done Some day When your head is much lighter Some day, yeah We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun

Eating a lot of broth
OKCPirate replied to garciagiss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@KristenLe - Damn good point. I used to only drink ice cold drinks pre-surgery, not I really prefer room temp. That should go on the list of recommendations somewhere. -

I went protein crazy!
OKCPirate replied to gettingsleeved1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@RhondaF - Crazy expensive? Have you seen the price of steak? Where else are you going to get 40oz of Protein for $3? I usually get a few at GNC. -
I was a single lone ranger in this, so I guess #1, it depends on your work/family/house (lawn work is out for a nearly a month, and no lifting anything over 20 pounds). I don't know your overall health or weight, but I was in good enough shape going in I didn't need any help moving around, but you could be different. On the plus side...YOU DON'T NEED MEALS But your family might, and cooking might not what you are interested in doing when you are on liquids. Some ideas, not instruction since I don't know your exact circumstances. A little more detail about your concerns will help.

Please, please tell me I can ditch the freaking CPAP after surgery?
OKCPirate replied to Heather I's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Heather I - I feel your pain. What type of set up do you have? My allergies here in Oklahoma are horrible. I had to be religious about keep the filters clean in the machine, I had the Water tank with mine and that helped with a little heat. I also found that using a neti pot before bed helped too. The good news is that after losing 40# the machine quit detecting episodes and issues so I'm done with the thing and gave it to my mom. -

Self-pay post-op insurance coverage
OKCPirate replied to goldndiamondzboy's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
@goldndiamondzboy-what procedure are you having? The risk of long term complications is very low for VS. I did look into this but I found the insurance expensive for the coverage. I was very confident in my surgeon and the facility. If there was a leak it would have been discovered early while I was still there. Look into a defined benifit policy if you are still concerned. Much cheaper than regular insurance and it doesn't have the restrictions that most regular policies have -

@@randij69 - as you probably should be tonight. Tomorrow will be a game changer. On the plus side, it is damn nice on the other side. If you are still up read through this...http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/ Give you some perspective as to why you are doing it. Wait until you can clip your toenails with out planning...it's really dang cool.

ouch, yes but it was because I ate something stupid, and avocado isn't stupid, but I would suggest eggs and Protein. Small nibbles, very slow. Used to take me 30 minutes to eat scrambled eggs.

What’s Your Favorite Summer Potluck Dish?

Single guy recipe: broccoli cauliflower bacon salad http://allrecipes.com/recipe/16485/barbs-broccoli-cauliflower-salad/ Easy, tasty, and I have a bowl for it (single/divorced guy problem, we don't do presentation well) -
Last year when people asked I said "I've been eating less, moving more." Seriously obese friends who asked with sincere intent, I'd explain in more detail. I find myself biting my tongue with obese friends who don't ask because I'd like to tell them, but like my religious beliefs, I'm not telling unless they want to ask about the hope that is within me. I respect people's right as individuals to figure it out for themselves unless they ask (or attend one of my classes, which is an implied ask)

@@Scotchjade - I created the "kids cupboard" in my kitchen. That's where all the junk food goes when we unload groceries. I put it far away from the prep area so I don't see it and I'm not tempted to graze.

@@Oak Park Lorena - I did apologize 5 days ago. I do get over-enthusiastic on the subject of dating, it was a subject I really enjoyed studying post divorce. Because of my work in politics/campaigns and elections, I actually get to study demographics, web traffic and human behavior more than most and it looks like I read way more into her post than she intended, so I apologized. I hope there is no need to continue the discussion.

Anyone go to Mexico solo?
OKCPirate replied to fancypants67's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I would have (but mom wanted to come, she was an RN and has good survival Spanish skills so I couldn't say no). There were several at the center I was at who came by themselves and they were perfectly fine. If you are mobile enough to take the train down and don't have any other health issues, IMHO, not a problem. But good call on the not driving in Southern California right after. It's not the meds that are the problems its the twisting (which puts a strain on incision sites) initially that is the problem and after being in LA a couple of weeks ago, I notice I did a great deal of twisting. Better not to drive until you get a better sense of "what's hurting."
