going back to work
marathinner replied to michelle9003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Michelle.... You and I were banded the same day. :cursing: I went back to work today but I work in an office so all I have to do is make sure I get up and walk. I packed myself a half cup of egg drop Soup and a Protein drink and H2O of course and am doing well. I too, have some tenderness in the port area but it gets better everday. For me, I'm upgrading to "full" liquids tomorrow. Can't wait to get out of the clear stage!! You will do great and hopefully find that going back to work makes you feel more energized. Good luck!! Amy -
Ooooo...that sounds deelish 4jin. Please share!! I get to go to full liquids tomorrow.....thank god!! One week on clear liquids was rough!!

I second what Travelgirl said!! I was JUST thinking about her the other day. I was following her journey closely and was so shocked to hear the news. I'm glad she is on the road to recovery. Please keep us posted on her progess, Jess. Amy

Congrats on the new pup!! Crate training will be your saving grace! I agree with Luluc!! Many people feel "guilty" because they feel they are confining their dog in such a small space. The truth is, dogs respond best to consitancy. It makes then feel safe and the crate becomes their own little sancuary. I went thru the same thing with my Golden Retriever puppy. I used to agonize at the thought of leaving her all alone in her crate. After a week of putting her in, I would come home and she would be so relaxed and happy to see me. BUT...she would also be excited to go to her crate every morning!! I noticed immediately this helped with her rascally behavior and she grew up to be the most awesome dog ever!! It may be hard at first....but it will pay off. Just stay consistant!! Congrats again on the new addition to your family and post pics if you can!! Amy

You are so strong, Amanda!! I am so sorry you had to go thru that but am glad to hear you are on the mend. We're all here for you!! Hugs, Amy

Hi Rhapsody...my fellow Nemo lover!! Sorry you're not feeling so hot. Coming down with a cold or flu would make it hard on anyone trying to do a strict diet. So BE KIND TO YOURSELF!! Give yourself extra sustinance so you can fight your little big and get back on the fast-track to Bandland....you're doing AWESOME!! As is every other Double V. I haven't given an update in a couple of days and I'm so happy that I can say I'm doing AWESOME as well. I'm 5 days post-op and apparentely I'm a bionic healer!!! My swelling and bloating are almost GONE and my incisions are already starting to itch....a sure sign of healing. Being on Clear liquids hasn't been the greatest but I had 40z of Muscle Milk Light this morning and felt like a new woman!! The hubby and I went out and bought a new living room set this afternoon and I was feeling super energetic. I advance to full liquids tomorrow and excited at the thought of ramping up my Protein and having some cream Soup. Oh...I did have some Egg Drop Soup today....DEELISH!! There is a recipe for it on the boards if you do a search. It's good for the clear liquid phase when you want a break from Jello and S/F popsicles. I've stayed away from the scale (very tough) but I didn't want to be disappointed if I didn't see a drop in weight. I figure we are so pumped up with gas, fluids, bloating and swelling the scale my not reveal our true weight loss. I'm going to wait until Tues when I'm officially one week post-op. Ok..I've rambled enough. Congrats to EVERYONE who is sticking to plan on pre-op and recovering quickly post-op. Rhaps...you take care of youself, girl!! Hugs, Amy

Gday aussie gal just banded
marathinner replied to Kygie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
G'day Ky.. All my immediate family are Aussies.....I'm the only born in the USA. They all live in Melbourne and I was just out for a visit a few months ago. Australia is the best!! I was banded on 2/5 and so far so good. Look forward to having you on the Boards!! Cheers, Amy -
Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids
marathinner replied to grandmom4x's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh...thank the maker that I found this thread!! I'm 4 days post-op and am STRUGGLING on clear liquids!! What's worse for me is that my post-op diet protocol calls for ZERO protein!! It says I'm supposed to wait until day 12 to start introducing Protein drinks. So for me it's just been s/f popsicles, Crystal light, broth etc. And of course Water. I feel so weak and tired and today I started feeling dizzy. I also have the dreaded diarrea which isn't helping. I keep thinking if I could just add in protein I would feel so much better. I know I'm doing everything right and don't want to stray from my program but sheesh....this sucks!! I emailed my nutritionist and told her about my issues. Don't know if I'll hear back on a Saturday but I'm praying she will respond and give me the green light to add in some protein!! If not, I guess I will just suffer thru the next 2 days until I can advance to "full" liquids....which still doesn't allow for Protein Drinks. I guess their reasoning behind no protein is that it is harder to digest and since this period is for healing we don't want our pouches to have to work extra to digest stuff. I guess I understand that, but I have yet to read about anyone else who doesn't have protein in their post-op diet. UGH!! Thanks for letting me vent and let's stay strong TOGETHER!! Amy -
Gained 2 pounds since surgery :(
marathinner replied to Kimberly Henson Edwards's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nurseoffaith.. I was also banded on 2/5 and am on clear's until Tues. Same thing...scale shows I gained 3 lbs. It's because of the gas, swelling, and all the fluids they pumped us up with during surgery. I'm just going to stay away from the scale for awhile and focus on getting thru the liquid phase of the diet. Hope your recovery is going well!! Amy -
Calling all Feb. Bandsters! Tell us about yourself!
marathinner replied to Gibson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Julie... We sound identical!! I was banded on 2/5 and felt great MINUS the gas...ugh!! The walking definitely helps. I'm on clear liquids until Monday then "Full liquids" for 5-7 days then on to mushies. I'm not really hungry just feel weak due to the lack of calories. C'mon...40 calories a day on clear's? BUT...I'm just so thrilled that my recovery is going well and that my journey is starting off on the right foot. Glad you're part of the group and keep us updated on your progress!! Amy -
I'm 3 days post op and on clear liquids until next Tues. Then full liquids which basically is adding "strained cream soups". What's weird is that my program does not incorporate ANY protein until 12 days post op. I asked the nurse and nutritionist and they both said that protein in tougher to digest...even liquid protein and the focus needs to be purely on healing. I guess it makes sense, but I feel like the protein would do me good right about now!! I'm doing ok with the clear liquids but only because I'm not hungry!! Next week could be challenging. But this is what it's all about.....healthy changes. Hope everyone else is hanging in there. We just have to keep listening to our docs...they know best!

Good luck this week: Feb 4 - 9.
marathinner replied to travel_anna's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Brookie...I'm with you. I can't believe how awesome I feel three days out. Like you I had some pretty wicked gas. It's finally starting to find it's way outta me. Also got some diarrea (sorry if TMI) yesterday but it's actually helping me relieve the gas pain. And yes, god bless Gas X!! Walking is also a MUST!! For all you other Double V's about to be banded, remember walking is the best medicine!! I've learned quickly that my mantra for the next few weeks is going to be: WALK-SIP-REST-REPEAT!! Oh...and don't even bother getting on the scale after surgery. You are too full of gas and fluids!! Good luck to all of you who are coming up......BANDLAND KICKS ASS!! -
Post op diahreaah? (Don't know if I spelled that right)
marathinner replied to ctaylor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is SUCH a convenient thread for me to read today. I'm 3 days post-op and just started gettting diarrea yesterday. I spoke with the nurse and she said it is very normal and could likely last for 3 weeks. It's worth mentioning again....but STAY HYDRATED!! I had really bad gas issues the last couple of days and the pooping seems to be aleviating that problem. Other than that, can't believe how good I feel only 3 days after surgery....wooo hooo!! -
Hey gang.. Just giving you the 2-day post-op update. Had lots of gas pain yesterday. Did the required walking and that really helped get the gas outta there!! Felt like I was a balloon being deflated...such relief. Feel SO much better today. The pain is totally managable with Tylenol. I'm doing fine on clear liquids although my doc requires a full week of it. 100 calories a day just isn't cutting it....so tired!! Hopefully I can advance to full liquids by Monday. The good thing is I've got ZERO appetite! Hope all you other bandsters are having a great recovery and hope all you pre-bandsters are sticking to your pre-op diets and kicking some butt!! Hugs, Amy

Hi Chilly.. I had my surgery yesterday and I feel great!! Minor discomfort and am walking up a storm!! It seems like most people are back to work and doing regular activites after a week. For some people it takes longer....just depends on each individual. There is TONS of info on these boards. Just inform yourself, ask questions and be 100% sure in your committment to make changes and follow the bandster rules!
-
Jax...you are going to do AWESOME!! You have been so well spoken and informed on these boards you could probably do the surgery yourself....LOL!! The nerves are the worst part. I can't believe how good I feel one day post op. You are READY for this and you have manifested your destiny.....TOTAL SUCCESS!! I'm passing the baton to you so you can join me in a quick and easy recovery. Hugs, Amy

Questions about what to wear post op
marathinner replied to vegors's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pain is totally managable today. I'm doing just fine with Liquid Tylenol. My doc gave me a liquid narcotic, but I will only take a little bit to help me sleep tonight. Starting to hear some loud gurgling noises in my tummy which is a good sign. Walk, sip, rest seems to be the only three words in my vocabulary at this point!! Oh yeah...don't forget to bring some chapstick with you to the hospital! -
Questions about what to wear post op
marathinner replied to vegors's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vegors.. I had my surgery yesterday and wore an oversized sweatshirt with NO bra. I recommend not wearing one. Just wear something that's loose fitting. Oh...and slip on shoes. You will want to walk as much as possible after surgery!! You will do great!! -
Oops....forgot to mention you beachgal!! Hugs!!

Hello my fellow band buddies... 4jin and Babe...I'm in the same boat as you. Pretty sore but LOTS of walking. I was outpatient yesterday, so by the time I got home I was pretty sore and tired. Had a decent night all things considered. Feeling much better today. I was able to take Pepcid, chewable multi-Vitamin and sublingual B-12....already making a huge difference. Thank god I'm not hungy. I have to be on H2O and Propel today and then tomorrow I move onto broth, popsicles etc. Keep up the great recovery!! Look forward to everyone's updates!! Amy
-
Hi everyone... Had my surgery yesterday. Everything went GREAT!! My doc said my liver was perfect (thanks pre-op diet) and there were no other complications (ie; hiatal hernia's etc). My surgery was at 10am and I was home by 7pm. I have some "medium" pain and discomfort but I just keep on walking!! My advice to all of you as WALK EARLY AND OFTEN!!! I've been getting down H2O and Propel without problems. Looking forward to a speedy recovery and experience all the joys of BANDLAND. Congrats to everyone who has been banded so far and GOOD LUCK to those coming up. I'll give you updates later in the week. Hugs, Amy P.S Keep sticking to those pre-op diets!! I've lost 15lbs
-
Welcome Home girl!!! Get some rest. I will post tomorrow after my surgery, I'm also outpatient!! Hugs, Amy

Oh...I'm so happy someone answers this question. I am SO looking forward to getting back to yoga. I used to be an advanced Bikram student....those were the days of a rockin' bod!! I would LOVE to get back into it. My doc said "anything goes" in terms of poses etc, but I have been waiting to hear if anyone has done either Ashtanga or Bikram yoga since being banded. New Me....hopefully you're just sore from class and the aches and pains will go away with strengthening. Good for you!!

You betcha Rhapsody!! You are doing awesome and passed along great advice to Kelly and Heidabear!! In the words of the great Dory the Fish *wink*.....Just keep swimming!!
