  1. I am divorced from a miserable woman. She has deep seeded emotional issues from an alcoholic father who drank himself to death to get away from her and her mother. (what a pair). I'll share a nugget my therapist told me, I live by these words. "Is it better to take one big hurt now and get it over with, or suffer thousands of little ones before the end?" Just something to ponder. And I feel for you. I suffered the thousands of little hurts before I attempted to end my life to get away from her. In fact had I not known military first aid I would have bled out. "Until death do us apart" meant a great deal to me back then. Now I am more zen about life. Best of luck in working this out.
  2. @@BLERDgirl I just switched from unjury to Isopure Carb Free Protein powder. The taste is in line with Unjury, but it's a cost thing. I take a double dose of Unjury and my daily cost with milk is over $3 with Unjury it's about 1/2 that with Isopure. My only concern is that it does not have a PDCASS score on it, and that bodes poorly for it.
  3. @@heather5565 First if I made you laugh out loud, mission accomplished. Second, yes get some MOM, they suggest taking it before bed, however they also say it is expected to produce a bowel movement in 1/2 to 9 hours. I don't know about you, but the thought of doing an emergency duck waddle into the bathroom at 3 am is not appealing. Or worse, thinking you are passing gas while sleeping and...... laundry time and a lot of mattress scrubbing..... I am going to continue with Miralax, a single dose and see if I can't work things out. (no pun intended again HAHA)

It's good for just long enough for me to trust it, then NNooooo either too much or too little. I feel like we need ti sit down (again no pun intended) and have a discuss a truce or something.
  6. @maryann~arreola I try to post amusing posts when I can. Sometimes we all need a good laugh, and for some odd reason my ass provides me with a ton of amusing stories.

    3weeks Post-Op Help!

@ReneK I sip it over the morning, I'll have a cup or two of coffee and this shake constitute my Breakfast. I usually wind up in the 120-140g of Protein range daily, so I don't worry too much about it. The exception is if I am going for my walk after my shake, I do 7.5 miles and the body uses everything available to keep up that energy burn, 7.5 miles at my pace burns 1900 calories. The carbs go first, then the body has plenty of protein to add muscle mass. As for the 25 gram thing, it depends on a ton of factors, the size of your anastomosis the length of your roux limb (if you had a bypass, which I see you did) and how well your illieum is at absorbing protein. That and personal metabolism. My NUT is thrilled with my routine, and never mentioned anything about a 25g limit. Hope this helps. It's best to talk to your Surgeon or NUT about an issue like this, as I said, there are a lot of things that affect how you absorb things and at what rate.

What to do with old clothes?

Consignment shop, It's like we trade. I get smaller clothes and the bigger sizes go fast for them. That being said, I keep a credit, I have one pair of jeans 2 hoodies and some t-shirts, since they will all be too big soon, it's less to exchange. Most of my clothes were suits and the like, so not really suited (no pun intended) for the homeless population or I would give them away.

    3weeks Post-Op Help!

@@Fiqah87 Personally I use Fairlife milk and unjury chocolate Protein shake. I use 54 grams (two servings) and with 10 oz of the milk and the powder I wind up with 59.1g of medical grade protein that tastes like chocolate milk. It is absolutely wonderful. Certainly worth a try.

  11. So, six weeks out, down about 50 pounds, stall, sort of over, not losing a ton of weight, but I am losing, so I am happy. My primary exercise is walking, and I live in New Hampshire and do not drive (long story, no DWI, I did nothing wrong, it's a bureaucratic thing), and the weather here, between the biting cold and the the seasonal rains have made it really hard to get out and get my six mile walk in every day. I do not work, I am a retired full time student at the moment, with no classes until November 30th, so...... Here is the pet peeve that I bet everyone has been through, yet we never really speak about it (and no, for once it does not involve my ass). Belt loops. I have kept my pre-surgery belt, sort of as a reminder of what I have accomplished. It is a reminder, every time I put my pants on how much smaller I am, even if the scale is being pissy. I bought a leather punch and have had to make ten new holes. I am currently between two holes. One is a tad too loose, and my pants sag, the next one, is so tight I feel like my legs are going to turn blue from lack of blood. This is the absolute worst thing to deal with (for me (ass issues aside)) as I either am constantly pulling up my pants or trying to move when my belt is so tight I feel like I am cut in two, Anyone else, have this issue? I've tried suspenders but wind up feeling like a farmer. Now that it's colder I can wear them under a shirt and on one is the wiser, though. So, laugh away. Oh and i'll have that belt until my dying day. I speak at the various seminars at the hospital and people always gasp when I show them how long my belt is now. They just see a fat guy, they have no idea how much fatter I was until they see the belt.

@Smallfry06 If you are hungry, eat. The body does not always make sense. You would think fewer calories would equal more weight loss, but not always so. If your body goes into starvation mode, you will stop losing weight and potentially gain weight. Protein, liquid and exercise. The more the better. This shall pass. And no you need not do anything, just stick to the plan, search for Embrace the Stall here on these forums. Great post.

@@TheNewKris I take a 6.4 mile walk every morning. I hate it at times, but keep my eye on the bigger prize. Just exercise, do something, anything and build from that.

  17. @mark1733 Suspenders make me feel like a farmer (I live in NH and see farmers wearing them all the time), the solution was a ratcheting belt I found on amazon.
  18. @leanne1126 You are lucky to have some cushion. After an hour or two of sitting without my gel cushion I feel like I spent a week in General Population at a Max Security Prison, the pain is unreal. Speaking of which, I saw the best photo today of Jared from Subway. He was standing there with a big grin on his face (old stock photo) and it was captioned, "HURRAY I just won 15 years worth of free Footlongs!!!" I laughed so hard I nearly shat myself.

@@tootie09 My NUT was telling me that stalls and starts tend to happen right around the time of a new diet phase, makes sense, new foods, body reacts in different ways, Week 8 is phase 5, unrestricted diet. One of the biggest goals is to get you off Protein shakes and have you get your protein in food form. More hard to digest meats etc, also the inclusion of a lot of new fibrous vegetables that tend to not get digested as fully., So at week 8 remove that quick to digest Protein shake and start eating a lot of meats, veggies and fruits, less "soft carbs" and more "complex" food. This combination leads to a greater weight loss. That is what they have found anyway,
  21. I am looking into bicycle shorts. I had no ass when I was fat, now I have to sit on a gel cushion or my ass hurts. Jeans with a pre-attached ass is a great idea! I can see the marketing now...... 'Have no ass? Try Levi's™ Ultra Ass Jeans, same fit, same comfort, same durability, only now you can sit!" LMFAO

    What Are You Thankful For?

This is a tough time of the year for me. While I do have things to be thankful for, my ex wife turned both my kids against me, they now both detest me and we no longer have any communication. That one issue overshadows any and everything I might be thankful for. I live a hard life, little money, but I have worked hard to turn my life around, and for the ability to do that I suppose I am most thankful. But the loss of the love of one's children is not something you get over. Don't feel bad for me, enjoy your holiday season. I will get through mine as I always do, as quickly and quietly as possible. I should also mention I am thankful for you, Mr. Brecher. Had I not read 'The Big Book on the Gastric Bypass' I do not know if I would have had the surgery. It was well written and technical enough that I felt confident in the procedure. I guess I could even go so far as to say you helped save my life. In addition I am thankful for these forums and the wonderful people here, always so full of loving, caring, helpful advice.

    Just a little venting

Solution is actually pretty easy. Next time hubby wants a little 'romance time' cut him off and tell him to go check a local booth for love.

    RNY undone?

@@LColandrea I guess I had missed the part where you said your surgery was 16 years ago. Today's RNY is nearly a completely different procedure than they were doing back then. Back then they were playing with the Roux limb length, 50cm and 75cm were pretty common, now 150cm is standard. Obviously the shorter the roux limb the less opportunity you have to digest food. Additionally, they found shorter Roux limbs led to an increase in dumping. You sound like you really fall into this camp. Takedowns are done a lot more commonly than people think, however, usually for a medical reason, so it's not a choice, that is why there is so little discussion about it. If you HAVE to have a takedown, it's done. No forum discussion. It is often to save your life and done many times as an emergency procedure. I wish you nothing but the best of luck. Don't be surprised if your old stomach is a bit pissed to suddenly be included in your digestive tract again, lol. Keep us posted, we are all pulling for you.
