    First Restaurant Dinner Out?

It was just this past Friday so a little over 3 weeks out, we went to a Mexican restaurant, I got refried Beans with a little cheese on top. It came in a bowl and I knew it would be too much, so I brought one of my little 10oz tupperware containers and got about 6 oz in it, and I ate about 4 perhaps 5 oz, and I took it to the movies and smuggled it in. I even brought my little toddler spoon! I nibbled on the beans while watching "The Martian" great movie btw.
  2. Thank you, although now I feel the need to do more than 60 miles over 3 days......... <sigh> it's tough being a man.

@@WLSResources/ClothingExch Oh no, not at all, my post was to indicate that I don't judge. I make informed decisions for myself, but others can and will do whatever they want. It's all love and peace here.

I spent several years managing a restaurant, I am or was Serve-safe certified, I am well aware of the risks of eating raw meat. For me, it is a personal choice, I judge no one else. Do whatever you will.

@@BLERDgirl Certainly possible, time change completely screwed me up, not a lot of sleep. I went and did a bunch of reading about this dish and it is indeed made from raw hamburger though.

Uncooked beef? Um, no. Rare(ish), okay, but it needs some heat, too many bacteria to just eat raw. Different cultures different meals.

Flying Tips - Almost 4 Mos Post Op

Carrying a controlled substance in anything other than it's original container is a Federal Crime. Use the bottles that the pharmacy gave you. Remember, even though you know what meds you are carrying, if you get some asshat TSA agent they may detain you while they verify each pill is not a control. Not worth the risk.

    Newbie! (Or is it NOOB?)

@@talkingmountain Welcome to the show! As for the noob, newbie, you would refer to yourself as a newbie, I would refer to you as a noob. Newbie is descriptive, noob is insulting/demeaning. Too many years of video games. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Just a couple things to remember, this is a journey, a lifelong commitment to change. Big time significant change. Your journey is yours alone, while we may be able to offer generic advice, what you go through will be very personal. I STRONGLY recommend that you read any of Alex Brecher's "Big Books" on the various weight loss surgeries. I found them entertaining and very informative. It's good to understand from a medical perspective what is going to happen inside you. Afterwards, you are a better educated consumer and customer, and this is a plus for everyone. Stay positive. That might sound odd, but many of us go through very unpleasant things and it's easy to get down on yourself. Stalls WILL HAPPEN, prepare yourself, continue to work your program, do what you are supposed to do and they pass. These forums even get graphic with people talking about bowel movements, too much, too little, or shocked at what came out, me personally, I could poop out a kitten and it would not surprise me. The kitten, would likely require a lifetime of therapy though, lol. Welcome aboard, you have taken another step towards your new life.
  10. @@Dub I did the math on a single shake a day, (I double the recipe, so a single shake with skim milk provides 50g of protein), using unjury, with shipping, excluding the cost of the milk the powder alone works out to $2.90 a day. This is partially offset by the fact that I eat less food, and even when all the restrictions are off, I see me eating a lot of meat. In fact if I can work it out I'd like to get back to low carbing it, that year was the best I have felt in my adult life, say what you want, but I was as healthy as a horse, worked out in the gym 2 hours a day 6 days a week and was never tired.
  11. Congratulations indeed.
  12. @@heather5565 My ass has produced things I did not even know it was capable of producing. First rule, and I and stealing this "NEVER trust a fart". If I went into the bathroom and passed a kitten out of my ass it would not shock me, this whole experience has been shocking.
  13. I cleared the house and nearly had a hazmat team here two days after surgery and continuing for a week. In fact my friend who was staying with me, went home after two days, he said he could not take the ass smell any longer.

    Post-op Gas Pain

You are all lucky, well, in a regard. Gas pains do indeed pass. Walk, walk, walk. What I meant by lucky was I developed what I refer to as Volcano Ass, I think you get the picture. Oh the gas came out, but it was hell around here for a few days. I saw in someones signature, "Never trust a fart" SOOOO true!! This too shall pass, just keep chanting, lol.
  15. @@irishaggie I recall hearing someone in the lifestyles modification classes I had to attend say something that struck a chord with me. She said she felt like she was "saying goodbye to and old friend" every time she checked off the final eating of a food. It struck me for two reasons, first, I eat because I have too, I am by no means an emotional eater, I just don't have that kind of relationship with food. And secondly because I think she needs or needed this was awhile ago, a different therapy, as I cannot even imagine, thinking of food in those terms. I see food as an object not something I have a relationship with.
  16. @@irishaggie I'll have to look that up. It's hard having GB and being Italian, we have a special bond with food, lol. I can live w/o Pasta, but sauce, it just goes so well in so many things.
  17. I had a LRNY GB on 05OCT2015. So as of today I am 22 days post. Down 32 pounds by my scale since the day of surgery, things were going really well until the end of last week. I weighed in on Friday as I always do, was down another 8 pounds and was happy. Then..... I gained a pound. Then another. As of this morning I am .8 lbs below last Friday's weigh in, but here is the thing: I was walking 5.21 miles every morning. (my body decided it likes the Military routine, so I have been getting up at 0400, not by choice) I eat < 800 calories a day. I consume > 100 grams of medical grade Protein (Unjury) daily I take in somewhere between 70-100 oz of Water a day. I usually have a Protein shake in the am prior to my walk For lunch it's another shake or perhaps a yogurt. dinner, well, it was shakes until last week, I had Ricotta bake twice, and have been eating refried Beans and cheese for the past two nights. I upped my am walk from 5.21 miles to 6.75 miles as 5.21 was just too easy, I had it down to a little over 1.5 hours and my heart rate was not high enough for long enough, by tacking on another trail (lots of hills!), before 10:00 I have 16K steps, 140 highly active minutes, about 7 miles traveled, 15 or so flights of stairs (I told you lots of hills on the new trail). By days, end I have burned no less than 4000 calories. HOW CAN I NOT BE LOSING WEIGHT? 4000 calories out, 800 in, is a 3200 calorie deficit, that's 1 pound a day. I don't get it, and I am starting to get really put out by this. So what is going on? Any advice before I go postal and adopt an Ethiopian diet of 200 calories a day and go into open revolt against my body? One (bordering on TMI) caveat, I am not having a daily BM or even every other day, I went from volcano ass, to solid BM's, but they have all but stopped, last one was 2 or 3 days ago. Back on Miralax this morning, I gotta get regular.
  18. @@goblue9280 I had nearly the same thing, I used RAO's Pasta sauce, no sugar, basically all veggies, low cal, low or no sugar, but aside from that it was the same thing, and I loved it.
  19. @craigcu You sure can at any CVS, the problem is that they are expensive and the quality varies wildly from one brand to the next. I mean it varies at an astounding rate, both the Probiotics Lipsticklady and I listed are very high quality, just do some research before hand and you should be okay.
  20. I bought http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F4WWI4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_6&smid=A2AFA41BFBRZV7 After comparing independent labs, these ranked third in three separate tests. They are cheap and i'll go with it.
  21. @@beachgal2935 OMG thank you so much. I bookmarked this page, lol. Some of those dishes sound wonderful. Refried Beans and cheese is getting a bit old.
  22. @@beachgal2935 Well I don't move to diet stage three for one more week, and honestly, I don't know. I am sort of still milking stage 2, I eat at least one meal a day, but there are days when I am like, ah the hell with it, I'll just have another shake. As for the soft foods stage, I have to do a lot of reading and gather some recipes to sort of figure that part out. At this point, other than turkey chili I have no solid plans on any food. Suggestions?
  23. *** A word of caution, this is not a thread that is meant to make anyone miss a food. I simply thought it would be nice to look back at where we were, and sort of compare our mindset then to now. This is really a deeper thread than the title would indicate. Do I miss Chinese food, I sure do, but, and this is the critical bit, I have not told myself I can never eat it again. To do so I would start to obsess over the food. I tell myself, someday. Same with candy bar, perhaps some day I will be able to tolerate a bit of a candy bar. Not that I want too, but I like all my options open.

    Your thoughts?

I will caution you that comparing yourself to others is dangerous. Mostly because we don't have the whole story. Maybe her portion of the chicken pot pie is the insides with mostly chicken, maybe not. If what she is doing is working for her, great. All you can do is focus on yourself. Are you following your surgeon's program? Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Are you taking your recommended Vitamins and supplements? Are you exercising? @@Inner Surfer Girl I don't think the OP has had any surgery, I think she was just asking a question about her friend. That is how my reply was written, it may have sounded a bit harsh but to someone who knows nothing of the surgical approach, I was trying to get as much information across in as short a post as possible.
