  1. I didn't mean to start a feud by creating this thread. I think many posters missed the fact that I stated how "disappointed" I was in myself, which diplays that I take ownership for my errors in this process for sure. With that being said I've made the decision to delay surgery. I'm restarting the liquid diet. Day#1 and I did awesome!! I can do this! With all due respect I appreciate all comments on this thread, whether I agreed or disagreed I still found value in the responses of others. Thank you all.

  2. On one of my many attempts at Weight Watchers, I had a wonderful coach who was teaching a class once say "Just because you broke one dish unloading the dishwasher, doesn't mean you have to break the rest"

Move on, and start over. Look deep inside yourself to understand the reasons you don't feel completely committed at this point. I'm not one to judge about how well I did or didn't do during the pre op, because I did not have the pre op liquid diet (thank goodness). I can tell you I had a "food funeral" before surgery, and it didn't make me any less committed to the post surgery diet once I had it. Because of GERD complications, I was on 6 weeks of liquids afterwords, but I knew it was for my own good at the time so I didn't stray from it. I am also pretty much a stickler to the program to this day ( I'm proud to say). I don't really think it's fair to question her commitment to the program based on the pre op diet. But that's like, my opinion, man.

Oh, I almost forgot! PLEASE PLEASE read "The Emotional First Aid Kit" by Cynthia Alexander. I am half way through it and don't know how I was getting through this before I read it. Should be must reading for any pre op and post op WLS patient!

Thanks. I'll have to take a look at that book. Gonna look it up on Amazon. Today is better than yesterday.

  3. I don't think it is fair to question someone's motivation because they are having a hard time. I bet there is not one single one of you who has done every single step of this journey perfectly. You may be struggling post op with getting your Water or Protein down...why can't you 'just do it'? You don't really want it. You may have struggled pre-op with cutting negative people out of your life. Why can't you 'just do it'? You must not have really wanted it. Every person is different and just because you overcame a particular part of the puzzle does not mean other people who struggle with that particular issue is unmotivated and isn't ready.

Every single one of us is here because we have been unable to control our relationship with food.< /p>

Let she/he who be without sin cast the first stone.

Well said thank you! God knows I'm flawed and have struggles, but HE has not given up on me or anyone else for that matter.

  4. If it were so easy to "just do it" all of us would have lost the weight without surgery. Most of us also spend a lot of time beating ourselves up over our weight, so cut yourself some slack and treat yourself with kindness and empathy. I think it would be wise to talk to your NUT and/or a therapist about strategies to help you, but I wouldn't give up!

    Wishing you peace and success!!!

Thank you. You are right. I have been struggling with food for years. This liquid diet was challenging because I started my period on the same day! Go figure. When I'm on my period my cravings for sweets and fatty foods sky rocket. So hard! But I'm gonna be honest with my Doc. and perhaps try again. So far so good today.

  5. I cheated as well up until two days before. .not saying it's ok...but that was the very reason why I had the surgery a tool to help me control my eating..just do not eat any solid foods these last two days...because I have heard that if there is solids in your tummy that some doctors will not complete the surgery! Good luck to you and I pray all goes well!

Thanks, it's good to see that someone can relate. Alot of people are saying that I must not want it bad enough. Def NOT true. This week I was on my period and when that happens my urge for sweets and fatty foods increases tremendously on top of extreme hunger, and when I go long periods without eating (liquid diet) eventually I want to binge.

Can you tell me if you delayed your surgery because of not adhering to it the entire time? Or did you still have surgery as scheduled and did the Doc have a difficult time? I would love to know thanks!

  6. I had my surgery on Thursday and I was prepared for the worse (just in case). So far it has been best. They had me

walking in the recovery room, not much but back and forth a couple times. When I got to my room, I walked whenever

I could. What a difference, got rid of a lot of gas that way (both ends). I gained 4 pounds from the IVs they had me

hooked up to but that is just Water weight. After all the fear of the unknown, I am thrilled so far. I am not saying I don’t

have pain but it isn’t as bad as I had thought, what I have I can live with. It should be getting better every day.

Good luck to all the February Sleevers.

    Congratulations!

  7. Well I have my plans requirements and I know what I need to do. I just find it odd that they have these specific 90 day requirements and at the end of the day, they are simply taking your word for the changes you are making.

I too am required to do a 90day program for Aetna. I have monthly visits with the Nutritionist and weigh ins every time I go. I think the main purpose is to set us up for success by prepping prior to surgery and by us learning new habits. Surgery is just a tool. I know a few people who have had it, but because they never took the prepatory program seriously they were shocked at how challenging it was post op. A few have regained most of thier weight back. I have been sticking to program , not perfectly but I have some new habits such as brisk walking 5x a week, more consistent Water intake, more vegetables and Protein in my diet, all of these habits will help me post op.

  8. I went through a weight loss clinic. Each month I went in and they did the weigh ins and kept track of that. I was put on a high Protein 1600 cal diet for the 3 months. They showed me exercises to do, but nobody kept track of that.

Are you going through someone who specializes in weight loss or just a reg doc?

I have Aetna and chose to deal with a clinic that specializes in Bariatric cases.

  9. I hate to get on here and vent but my mother in law drove me banonkers (bananna + bonkers) today, She invites me to walk with her down at the AG center, there are 2 trails there one goes 2miles around then there is a smaller trail that goes around some woods for about a mile around, now this is where I got my start, walking I told her about this trail, but since I have a treadmill I left off walking there when it turned off cold. Anyhow my mother in law is a ver fit person she walks on her own property behind her house up a logging trail 4 miles mostly uphill and a lot of it is steep, the AG center is mostly flat ground. Her and three other ladies have recently been walking down there every Sunday 4 miles, and asked me if I wanted to come. Immediatley she starts calling attention to how slow I am, 1st words out of her mouth were "Your going to have a hard time catching up." Then she turns and says she just can't walk at such a slow pace and is going to go on, I tell her to go ahead, she says "You see Angel we are going to walk ALL the way around" I understand that I told her just go on, but she's making wide circles like I have no idea what I'm in for. They go on ahead of me but I kept them in sight most of the walk. I walked three miles in all I went back to the car and found 10 dollars in the field on my way back, I was just really upset with how impatient she was being. To top it all off she gets back to the car and says pretty good for a beginner. grrrr.

Well that doesn't sound very supportive! Kudos to you for not letting that hinder you from competing the walk. You're nice I probably would have told her to shut the F up! Lol

  10. O O O Ooooo Raising hand here....North Fort Myers, Florida

Surgery is supposed to be scheduled for November 10th, however..the insurance company may take their sweet little time and my surgery could be the week of Thanksgiving...however...that doesn't bother me in the least...cause I'm gonna lose weight and be healthy...that' my motto What's a motta with you??

Anyone in my neck of the woods?? I think I saw Cape Coral up a ways....hello??

How are you all doing now that you've had the surgery.? I'm in Fort Myers and due to have surgery with Dr. Bass on 2/18. I'm so excited!

  11. My cost is going to be $400 for my co-pay and $725 for my deductible. i've already paid $250 in full for the 3-month perpatory program and I may have another bill for the Anethisiologist. :-\ I'm praying that insurance covers that. I have Aetna, so who knows! I'm just happy to get this done! yeah!!! It's the only thing keeping me going right now. My surgery date is 2/18/15. I'm extremely excited!!!!

  12. I'm 42 and I am so happy about my choice two years ago. Two years have passed and I'm still a work in progress which actually keeps me motivated to continue. I'm down 125 lbs and want so badly to get what I thought was going to be a Tummy Tuck has turned into a body lift. Oh well it's all worth it. Lose skin is not fun. I need it gone I am a size 8-10 depending on the brand ms I was told with a body lift I would be a 6. Not that clothes size matters in this journey but I don't ever remember being a 6. Lol !! attachicon.gif ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1420311849.953664.jpgattachicon.gif ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1420311888.149400.jpgattachicon.gif ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1420311922.402692.jpg

You look awesome. You look very young, like you're in your 20's.!! Congratulations! ![emoji3] I'm wondering if you had trouble with loose skin??

  13. I guess I should get on the ball and decide which Protein Shakes I'm using.....eek!

QUESTION: For those of you who got your surgery date, WHEN did you get it? I'm asking because I have to do a six month program for my doctor's office-not necessarily for my insurance co and I'm wondering when you actually learn of your surgery date?? I'm in month 5 of 6 and go on January 22nd for my surgery class, meeting with a doctor, an ultrasound and more labs. After that my psych eval is January 27th. I should be learning of my date soon right?

I have completed will have completed my 3 month prep program as of 1/7, labs, psyh eval, letter of necessity, paperwork, ect. On 12/22 doc office called and told me surgery would be on 2/18 all o need is to get medical clearance from my primary doc by 1/21 and I'm all set! I hope this response helps!
