missymac got a reaction from LipstickLady in Popcorn After Gastric Sleeve Surgery....
As much as i like popcorn i am staying well away from it. I had my surgery on 13th August 2014 and developed a tear in my stomach and after going septic and almost dying twice plus being fed through a nj tube until last week, i can safely say i am sticking to what my docs have told me to do. I got out of hospital Christmas eve and i don't plan on going back so unfortunately popcorn is just going to have to wait. Please be careful with your food. I was and still ended up very sick which makes me worry what might happen to someone starting foods too soon or pushing their limits.

Hi :-) I was 435.63lb (197.6kg) before surgery August 2014 and am now 236.77lb (107.4kg) so have lost over 198lb (90kg). Things have slowed down a lot and I have an extreme amount of excess skin plus I had many complications after surgery (gastric leak leading to pneumonia, a collapsed lung, organ failure and many months in hospital) but am glad I had it as it has changed my life. It has taken me a long time to say that but things are on track. I sold my wheelchair (needed for other health reasons) and am currently studying to become a medical administrator/practice manager!

Thanks Inner Surfer Girl. It takes a lot to get me down. Living positive is the only way to be. I must say the almost 4 months I spent in hospital was very hard but I got through it and will keep going. It was great getting rid of the chair! I am left with minimal problems from the surgery but the way I look at it, I have a second chance at life! Without the surgery, I would most probably have died in the next 10 years.

I personally can't have too much fruit or juice of any kind cause I'm diabetic but you would have to look into your nut for that. I hear a lot of people are having juice and oranges and apples. I think it just has to be keep in the healthy range of sugar. I also found that veggie straws are a good way to cut the salt craving without going nuts. there are so many bariatric recipe site on the web. I got a lot of ideas from there and also just reading packages. I don't bring what I can't eat into my house and what my kids eat i have them locked up and don't have the key and don't know where it is!

Thanks for your advice Veronica. I will definitely be trying some of your ideas. Do you know if oranges are ok? I have been sucking the juice out and leaving the pulp.

Try making some kale chips. There are a ton of recipes and you can doctor them up however you please with seasonings.

My go-to Snacks are string cheese, Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt (other brands have that gritty greek yogurt texture that I hate), peanuts (in very limited quantities when I need a non-refrigerated snack), and meat sticks (like beef sticks, but not necessarily beef... I like turkey pepperoni sticks).
If you are really craving chips, Quest Nutrition (same people who make Quest Bars) make Protein chips that are available at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe. I tried them once. They were okay. But I think it's probably best just to wean ourselves off that style of snack altogether so we stop craving them.

Parmesan Crisps Preparation Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a nonstick baking sheet. (Do not use cooking spray.) Mound level tablespoonfuls of cheese about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Bake until the cheese is melted, soft and a very light golden color, about 6 minutes. Remove from the oven and do not disturb until completely cooled and firm to the touch, about 20 minutes. Using a thin spatula or knife, lift the crackers from the baking sheet. I have a SF fudge pop every night after supper. All I eat at my night time meal is 5 oz of tilapia, so something a little sweet taste good. I also have a SF pudding after lunch. Both of these keep my sweet tooth at bay. I haven't had any Cookies, cake, pie or other Desserts since Oct 18th, 2013. My Snacks are Greek yogurt. When I want something crunchy and salty, I will have an ounce of peanuts, but I try not to have those in my house very much because I tend to grab some too often.

Aww, @@missymac, I totally know and understand where you are right now. You will have those minor set backs, but know the reason why we had the surgery and look at the bigger picture! Nuts are ok, and if you want to curve that sweet crave, get the SF fudge pops. They're actually good and can't really taste the difference.
I encourage you to push forward and give yourself some self talks! We're here for you!

from what my nut says we "patients" should stay off those types of Snacks for sometime. You have to speak to them about that. I feel like there are so many different options for snacks then that. Slices of deli meat, cheese, you are far enough out to have cut veggies and fruit and Peanut Butter. Protein Bars the list goes on and on. I would not beat yourself up for the slips. You are craving salt and that is normal where some people probably were craving sweets. You should try maybe pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds, pistachios, almonds, and even most nuts but don't go nuts on them. Eat some yogurt with fruit. The point is try to stay away from the standard "junk food". Its hard I know but you can do it. Don't want to ruin progress now when you are doing so GREAT! I wish you luck!

I go after laughing cow light cheese everyday right now. I love it. Low fat and low cal. It's ok with my doc. That has been my snack of choice right now. I could do NSA pudding or fudgcicles but I'd rather stay away from sweet stuff. Just my opinion.
