How do I get approved WLS on California Anthem Blue Cross Medi-cal?
So, I'm a medi-cal patient but I also bought a small private insurance because medi-cal doesn't pay for everything. But what I want to know can't I just get the WLS under medi-cal? Also how do I go about doing this? What is the process and what do I do to get them to understand that I REALLY need weight loss surgery? Right now I cannot get a job because I'm so unhealthy and sick all the time if I could get weight loss surgery then I could live life again and get a job along with being less sluggish and obese. How do I get through to my doctor and medi-cal that this is medically necessary and I need it done to survive and get a job?

Are Your Family Members Overweight and Which of Them Supported You?
Nobody in my family is obese so they don't really understand my struggle. Most of my mom's side are tall and skinny. My dad's side though are muscler and short, my dad is the tallest at 6 feet. I don't see how muscle, skinny and tall = a fat offspring. I have the worst of both worlds. If I'm not hella skinny I'm fat as ever, if I'm skinny I have muscle, it sucks. On top of that I have sleep apnea, asthma, PCOS and diabetes type 2. I just wish that my family understood my struggle. That I'm the type of person that diet and exercise alone DOES NOT work. I need extra help to keep me thin.

Ugh. Will I ever get this surgery?!
I feel this same way. I've been waiting for 3 years to get it done and I'm tired of waiting for gastric bypass. I've tried losing weight on my own but it just does not work. I just want to have gastric bypass done and over with so I could do my full lifestyle change/diet, weight maintenance, plastic surgery (for excess skin), skinny people clothes and finally feel happy along with feeling sexy.

Can I have Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal Insurance and Anthem Blue Cross Platinum D PPO?
Hi, I was wondering can I have both private insurance my Platinum D PPO and Anthem Blue Cross's Medi-Cal at the same time? I was wondering because I qualify actually for Medi-Cal but I also have a fund just for my medical expenses so I also got my Platinum D PPO. Please note: I am very obese and the fund for my medical is not that much no more than $5-6,000 just for 1 1/2 years of coverage and I still do not have enough for the co-pays and specialist visits. That's why I ask because I'm having a hard time paying the $520 a month alone. But my bariatric doctor DOES NOT take Medi-Cal that's why I bought the insurance because I was closer to getting bariatric surgery on private insurance than with Medi-Cal. I've been getting fatter by the day and my medi-cal has done dittly squat about it! I used to be on my dad's insurance but after that ended (due to me turning 21) I got a fund for my medical expenses that will barely cover 2 years let alone one and I will need help with the medical bills. Well, at least the co-pays for say my primary care doctor and some specialists that take medi-cal. So could I still get both medi-cal and private insurance or no and how does that work when paying medical bills?

What to ask my doctor when talking about WLS?
CowGirlJane, I have sleep apnea, have trouble sleeping at night because it feels like my body is crushing itself and type 2 diabetes. I've tried everything and it seems nothing seems to help me lose weight nor make my pain from my foot injury any better. In matter of fact, I have a hard time walking due to my foot injury and my weight and gained 100 pounds because of it. So I hope things go well, thanks....

What to ask my doctor when talking about WLS?
Okay, so I have an appointment with my doctor on March 31st 2016. I am going to ask her if she could refer me to my old WLS team to get the gastric bypass. Note: I have been trying for almost close to 3 years to get this done, tried it seems everything to try to lose this weight and so far I've had set back after set back I'm trying to be more positive and buckle down and just do this because I need to lose weight not only for health reasons because I have a physical disability and with my weight being this high it's hard to walk most of time. I cannot sit or stand for long periods like no longer than 5 minutes it sucks because I'm trying to get a job but I don't think there will be any job for just 5 minutes. Anyways, I wanted to know what should I ask my doctor and how should I tell them I REALLY want to get the gastric bypass and how do I go about referrals?

For those of you with a starting BMI of 50 or more, how long was the wait?
That's weird because I have PCOS, a BMI over 50 and sleep apnea and I still had to do a weight loss program. I don't know now with my new insurance though because I had to switch insurances midway between.

You're Cheating
You know, I got that same response from people and I'm sick of people saying that I am going to cheat trying to get WLS. I wish people would congratulate me that I am actually doing something to help me lose weight and take control of my life instead of dying before age 30. You think they would but no they aren't.

Autism/Mental illness/Bad Support and WLS
Well I've tried twice to get Gastric Bypass surgery and it seemed like either I wasn't ready or my health insurance ran out. It seemed like one thing or another. But I think now I could finally do it with enough help.

Eating Disorders and WLS
Wow, I just read some of these and it feels like how I was years ago. I went to a eating disorder clinic for bulimia which I conquered the bulimia only to end up trading it for binge eating which is not good (trading another bad habit for another) either and it seems I should go back but can't because I am in the process of doing the health insurance thing all over again. So I seriously hope to get through everything and be a much happier and healthier me, I think this life change is a good one but a very stressful one. The last time I was super skinny was between 10-11 and ever since then I would yo yo between pants sizes. I feel the effect of bulimia really bad, I started when I was 9 years old and been on and off of bulimia ever since and just conquered it recently (2014). I just want to get rid of my binge eating for good and just eat healthier and stop doing this bad stuff to myself. Okay, that's all I have to say.

Autism/Mental illness/Bad Support and WLS
Thank you, I feel like I am in a better place then I was in this last post but I am still struggling don't get me wrong I guess with a new life change it takes a lot of work, effort, persistence, and take one day or things at a time. This is a big change, conquering my weight issue and boy has it been a joy ride! I just wish I could get this stuff down so I could start losing weight and feeling better about myself.

Anthem Blue Cross of California- All about it
I'm thinking about getting Anthem Blue Cross of California's Platinum 90 D PPO plan. How is that plan for bariatric surgery? Because I want to know what I'm paying for before I buy it.

Partnership HEALTH PLAN Insurance
I live in Fairfield and Santa Rosa seems far away like close to 3 hours and I don't have a car, I was trying to find something local.

Partnership HEALTH PLAN Insurance
How do I get approved though? For parnership of california to get bariatric surgery and how long is the wait? Because i thought about just getting private insurance through Anthem Blue Cross if they don't cover it.

Eating Disorders and WLS
Decided to make this thread since I had a eating disorder and did not see a topic for it. So sound off if you had or still have either bulimia, binge eating, anorexia, emotional eating or have a combination of any of these or some that I did not mention. Please share your thoughts and opinions or just want to vent about having a eating disorder and WLS.

Autism/Mental illness/Bad Support and WLS
Yes, it's becoming a pain. I just wish I could function higher and improve my skills to be able to cope with all of this but it's a problem. If I could do all that then they would approve me on the spot but I guess life is not always this easy I guess.

Anthem Blue Cross of California- All about it
Does anybody know which anthem blue cross plan would be right for me since anthem is not clear which one has WLS and covers people with a lot of health problems? I really want anthem but I need to know which plans are good for this. I don't have much money, I currently get medi-cal which sucks in this county (I live in Solano county). I also gave up on getting WLS with mediaid/medical because they just suck and take too long. I figure I should just start with Sutter again so I don't have to start everything over again since I ride with them before. Please note this will be now my 3rd time trying for WLS and I need a plan that lasts only a year and a half and will just have to use Medicaid after that for anything else since once again my trust does not have much money.

Autism/Mental illness/Bad Support and WLS
I just feel alone and family does not get my struggle, they just tell me to eat less and exercise more which does not help at all. Or they tell me to just be happy and get out when really that's not what I need. I have certain needs that they don't seem to understand. I get severe sensory overload and freak out in social environments. Most of my cares with simple tasks and daily living skills are not being met and I'm scared that will also not get me approved I need more help than normal people right now and don't know where to ask.

Autism/Mental illness/Bad Support and WLS
I decided to make thread because I'm very much struggling. I need to lose weight and need to find a place to do so that is loving and supportive of my weight loss goals but I don't have that and I've tried to get WLS 2 times before this is my 3rd time trying. I'm very depressed, anxious and feel my autism and mental illness will automatically not get me approved again. It's like every time I get far in the process it seems I take two steps forward and three steps back and I'm tired of it. I hate people that judge me and say I'm taking the easy way out. No I'm not, I have a hormonal imbalance and metabolism problem that will not be fixed with diet or exercise alone. I know me and I'm not trying to be lazy or take the easy way out I'll still exercise. I will just have an extra tool to lose way more weight with diet and exercise. Is there anyone who is here that is on the autism spectrum or have mental illness or even just has a bad support system that feels the same way? Because I need somebody to tell my frustrations to, sorry.

Looking For People Who Live In Northern California
I wish I could make a walking group but I don't have a car. I need someone between Fairfield and Sacramento to be my support/walking buddy and to take me to my mandatory Bariatric support group. I still have not gotten the surgery because my dad cut me off and the insurance went with him. But soon I'll have money to buy my own insurance at least for a year and a half so this is my 3rd time trying I refuse to take no for an answer. I need gastric bypass asap because my health is getting worse due to my weight.
