  1. Mine finally stopped shedding like crazy as well. Lots of little hairs popping out everywhere. I thought I would be bald as it started at 3 months and I am nearly 13 months post op. I too lost 3/4 of my volume thank goodness I had a huge head of thick hair to begin with.
  2. Here is the thing, you have to get your Protein or you will get very very sick and your hair will fall out and you won't heal. You likely cannot get it all from food right now given you cannot eat enough to get there. That means you have to find a supplement that works for you. Have you tried any of the protein waters that are available! There are different fruit flavors available just google protein Water and find one that works for you. Just make sure it is low calorie. I personally do not tolerate the powders at all. I gag and end up throwing up. Because of this my doctor suggested Premier Protein ready made shakes which have 30 grams in 11 ounces. 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. Because they are so packed with a protein punch I really only have to drink 1 per day and can get the rest of my protein from food. Unfortunately those only have chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors. Because they are ready made they don't have that discusting grit or nasty smell that most Protein Shakes have. They are also not so cloyingly sweet. Good luck! You must find something that works for you.
  3. Take a deep breath. You are not even close to done losing. Believe it or not you are really not in control of how fast or how slow you will lose the weight that it probably took years to put on. Your body has been through a lot of trauma in the last several weeks and it requires time to regroup and move forward. Weight fluctuates from day to day and week to week. It will come off if you follow the food plan. I promise! Take it from someone who has weathered many stalls, if your weight fluctuations bring you down, you will need to stay off the scale. I am a daily weigher but I have had to learn to only use that number as a barometer to help me stay on track. I also use the way I feel, the way my clothes fit and a tape measure. Also I would not even consider no weight loss a stall until I have not lost anything in 2 weeks. If you want more info about stalls, use the search tool and you will find many posts on the subject. For now, you are doing great! Give yourself and your body a break. You need time to heal both mind and body. Good luck to you!
  4. @@Spiceyfrog Yes, the hair thing can be very frightening but don't let it get to you. Mine recently slowed down as did my weight loss. I am just over 1 year post op and it slowed down right around the 12 month mark for me. The good news is I have been sprouting new hair all along so although I know and my husband knows it is much thinner than it once was, no one else has really noticed. I have been taking Biotin since the beginning and let me tell you it seems to really do a good job on regrowth. I will say that by the time I stopped losing hair, I had lost about 3/4 of my volume. Thank goodness I started with a very very thick head of hair. Also, some people only shed for a couple months, maybe you will get lucky.
  5. I would guess it is all about the caffeine withdrawal. You will likely get headaches over the next few days, just treat them early so they don't get out of control. Also, I would recommend that you drink tons of Water, at least 64ounces which will help flush the toxins out of your system.
  6. I have had a lot of surgeries in my life. Hysterectomy, open gall bladder, 5 spinal surgeries, tonsils, neurostimulator implant. Honestly this surgery was ver easy for me, as easy as my open gallbladder and hysterectomy. I do have a high tolerance for pain but the real discomfort was the bloated feeling from the gas. I did not sleep that first night because of that gassy bloated feeling which can be uncomfortable. The best thing to do is get up and walk. I got home from the hospital on wed and took my last dose of pain medication Thursday night. Honestly it doesn't help the gas pain anyway.
  7. @@AnnainOK Hang in there! This to me was one of the hardest parts of the journey because of the emotional crap that comes with it. Your husband is right it will get so much better on surgery day, just keep your eye on the prize. Don't be surprised if you actually get air headed toward the last few days. I remember not being very clear headed and my husband yelled at me for not having my head in the game while doing our checkbook. I yelled at him and said let me take food away from you for ten friggin days and let's see how your mind works dumb$&?! We both started cracking up after that. He has since tried the liquid Protein diet and did not make it 12 hours. We laugh about it all the time. You will feel better soon! Hang in there!
  8. Congratulations on your weight loss! You are doing fantastic. The reality is your weight will come off in its own time, you just need to follow the plan. You will soon realize that those that lose fast in the beginning slow way down and those that started slow remain steady. Everyone seems to catch up with everyone else. If you mess around too much with your food plan you can make it worse and the stalls will resolve in their own time. Take it from someone who's has stalled many many times along the way. Slow and steady wins the race. You did not put this weight on in a couple months so please don't expect to take it off in a couple months. You are doing fantastic!
  9. The pain is usually more from that blasted gas they pump into you. It can be very painful and the only thing that helps is Water, walking, gas X and heat packs. Walk like crazy and sip sip sip. Welcome to the losers club!
  10. Congratulations! You and I were very close height and weight. I can tell you that losing this weight will make your health so much better! Everyday I get up its like a whole new life! Keep us posted on your progress.
  11. I was one of those people who could not tolerate milk right after surgery. My Protein shakes actually made me I'll. My surgeons office recommended that I switch to Premier Protein ready made shakes instead, they have 30grams of protein in 11 ounces. At first I would have to use have lactaid and half protein just because they were a little heavy for me. Within a couple of weeks I was able to drink them straight out of the container. You can buy them at Sam's and costco, Walmart and some Walgreens have them too. In terms of your mouth being dry and turning white, that really sounds like dehydration to me. How much liquid are you getting at this point?
  12. I would have made some very good quality chicken broth and froze it. This was the thing hat saved me during the pre op diet and I sipped it during the clear liquid phase. I had no idea that good chicken broth would help me tolerate all that sweet that comes with the liquid Protein diet. A nurse in my surgeons office who also went through bypass surgery told me how important it was 3 days into my liquid diet and suggested it. Canned broth is horrible and tastes like dirty dishwater. You have to have the good stuff.
  13. Someone 4 months out should not need to leverage the 5 day pouch test. Are you having trouble with the food plan post surgery? It is not a hoax, it will help set you back to the basics. I have talked to several people that had reached goal and got off track. It helped them to reset. Are you thinking about trying it?
  14. @@pianogal7733, I am glad that you recognize going back to basics is what will help you get back on track. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck!
  15. Don't be so hard on yourself. Most of us have that lovely food funeral before surgery. Now, just get back on track immediately tomorrow so you can accomplish your required weight loss. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your new life and it is going to be a great new life! Good luck!
  16. Don't make the mistake of pureeing eggs. I did and can no longer eat them which makes me very very sad. The smell of eggs actually make me gag and then vomit.
  17. What you describe sounds exactly what my gall stone attacks were like. I got mine out many many years ago in an open operation because this went on for a very long while before docs did an ultra sound to verify, I had so many stupid waste of money tests and all that was needed was an ultra sound. As soon as they saw it, they realized in was in big trouble, rushed me to surgery and opened up my belly. I have an 8 inch scar because they screwed around so long.
  18. @@nearperfectmess Hi there! I have not had the same experience as you in regards to asthma but I wanted to reach out and say congratulations on your decision to get healthy. I did have some of the other co morbitities that you speak of, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, severe Gerd and stage 3 kidney disease. Every single one of these medical issues have either been cured or are in remission. Having this surgery definately saved my life. I know that you will be much healthier for taking these steps. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions!
  19. You have to be careful with different supplements that claim to help with thinning hair. The reality is if you are one that will shed from massive weight loss there really is nothing that will stop it from happening. Biotin is the best thing to help with regrow th but it also does not stop it from happening. I have personally talked to several experts on the lass of hair through bariatric weight loss. There really is no way to stop it so you could be wasting your money. I happen to have been one of the unlucky folks. My hair started falling out by month 3 and it just recently stopped. I am 12 months post op and lost 3/4 of my thickness. I have been meeting my Protein and Water goals since near the beginning. I have been taking biotin as well. The good news is, it did finally stop as my weight loss slowed down and it has been coming back in all along. I have tons of little hairs poking up everywhere.
  20. Congratulations on your incredible progress! Glad to hear you are doing so much better!
  21. If you are 1 week out you are likely very weak but I would check it out anyway. As your fluids and Protein goals are achieved this will definately improve. It took a few weeks for me but I was on Clear liquids week 1 and was not allowed to start protein until week 2. Even when I could drink protein it took about a month before I even could get half my daily requirement in.
  22. The only Protein shakes I use these days are: Premier Protein ready made shakes. They have 30grams of protein in each shake, 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. They taste great, pack a huge protein punch, are not gritty, require no work on my part other than to shake well before drinking. They come in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. You can buy them in bulk at costco or Sam's. You can buy them at Walmart and some Walgreens in small 4 packs. Costco has them on sale occasionally and I stock up. They come in 18 packs at Costco. These were recommended by my surgeon after I could not tolerate the powdered stuff initially.
