  1. By the way, you can get premier protein shakes at SAMs or Costco.
  2. I had to do a lot of traveling within the first 30 days of my RNY. I did not use a blender but found that premade shakes actually work best for me. I would either pack them in my suitcase and check it at the airport or but them when I got to wherever I was going. I use premier Protein shakes which have 30 grams of protein and are low in carbs. chocolate tastes the best. I ended up having a lot of trouble with all the powders that you mix, they taste terrible and sat heavy. The only thing I needed to do for travel was make sure I had a fridge in my room to keep them cold. If you do choose to go with a powder, you can get those blender cups which have the silver mixer balls inside. They work fantastic. You can get them at GNC. Good luck!

    Walking shoes? Help

New balance has my vote. Funny thing is, I have now changed from wide to medium! All my darn shoes are sloppy on my feet. It is pretty funny but also expensive.
  4. For me it was pie. I did not make it often because if I did I could keep eating it until the darn thing was gone. I just love pie. Now, I could really care less about sweets at all.

    My Chocolate-Free Purse

Yeah for you! You deserve it. By the way, hand bags are my thing! I love the idea of your chocolate free purse. Hopefully you will carry that one all the time as a reminder that you really don't need that crappy old chocolate anyway! Good luck!
  6. Congratulations on hitting such a fantastic milestone! I cannot wait until I get to that point.mi am so excited for you! Keep on going!
  7. You go girl! Congratulations and keep on going!

    Need motivating....

You can do this! Have you thought about leveraging the liquid Protein diet now? I lost over 10 lbs just doing that in 10 days and it shrinks your liver in preparation for surgery. If you started that process now and I promise it is not that bad, you would meet your goals easily! I know if you want this bad enough you can lose what you need to in order to get approved. Keep your eye on the prize. It will change your life very quickly and it is well worth the effort. You need to look in the mirror and tell yourself you can do this! Good luck!
  9. Congratulations and good luck on your surgery Monday! Hope all goes well and your on your way to your new lifestyle!

    Hate food now

I agree! I am 9 weeks post op with RNY and I really think it is all about trying what works for you in the moment. Foods that did not work 3 weeks ago are now working just fine. There are some foods that I am thrilled that I don't care about, mainly sweets. Yeah for me as that was my biggest problem before surgery. My grouch pouch is however loving chicken, and fish and ground beef. This week I get to even introduce raw vegetables and I am very excited about that as I am craving some salad. I know however that I need to take it slow and if something does not work, wait a week or so and try again. I take every day as a new adventure and try not to push my pouch too far as I don't want to experience any dumping. I have been lucky so far! Good luck and just take it one day at a time.
  11. I have to say I was very worried about you for about the first paragraph. Then I was cracking up! Thanks for the good laugh!

    Right after surgery

Honestly my first week was not bad at all. I was a little sore but I have had several major surgeries and I knew what to expect and have a high tolerance for pain. I just found myself slowly sipping a lot of fluids for the first week. That is the most important thing besides getting up and walking. Most of your pain comes from they gas the pump into you expand your stomach. If you use GAS X, which I am sure they will recommend, that will make you more comfortable. I also used hot packs and when I got home a heating pad. But really they best thing is walk, walk, walk and lots of fluids. Stay hydrated! The time goes fast and so do the results! Good luck and keep us posted!

    Turkey Neck!

It is the first thing I noticed as well. Although very mild at this point. I also noticed my glasses are so big they keep sliding down my head! It has actually become funny. I knew my head was larger than normal but I guess I really was a fat head!! LOL!
  14. I also am 8 weeks post op and although I got my medicines down to only a couple I am able to either swallow them whole or break them in half now. Probably the largest size however would be the size of an extra strength Tylenol capsol. You just have to take your time in between. Good luck.

    Water intake

I have not heard anything about bruising. I would certainly have her check with her doctor. 20 oz. is not nearly enough fluids, I made that same mistake. Fluids must be your number 1 priority or you will feel the pain from it. I made that mistake a couple of times early on. The dizziness and feeling of weakness is just not worth it. Good luck!

    To be sleeved or bypass?

Just wondering if you also suffer from Gerd or reflux as well as diabetes. The reason I ask is both surgeries will help with getting your diabetes into remission. Gastric bypass will cure reflux or Gerd whereas the sleeve can actually make that worse. I was all set to move forward with the sleeve and learned about the reflux issue. I suffered my whole adult life with that. It was an easy decision for me and I have to say it has solved both my diabetes and reflux. Woo Hoo! Make sure you learn as much as you can about your health issues and choose the surgery that is right for you. Good luck and keep us posted!

    Fast forward to post-op.....

I want to shop for clothes in a normal store again and not have to buy anything with an X on it! 3x, 2x, 1x!
  18. I am very excited! Tomorrow my new sit down elliptical and tread mill gets delivered. The next day my trainer comes over to help me figure out a routine that works for me!

  19. I have not seen the movie but am glad to hear that you have taken steps to get yourself healthy! Like you I was a workaholic who paid no attention to my own health. I traveled for work and went to fabulous restaurants which only made things worse for me. I tried every fad diet know and would drop 50 to 60 lbs only to put it all right back on and then some. Last December I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease which was the result of taking meds for migraines and other auto immune illnesses. It was at this time that my new kidney doctor asked if I had ever thought about WLS. He helped me understand I could not continue to ignore my health or I would be looking at a transplant. I am happy to say I moved forward and took control of my well being. I had my surgery in late September. I have dropped over 50lbs already. I am off almost all meds. My kidney function has greatly improved. My type 2 diabetes is in remission! My Mother passed away at 66, I wanted to make sure that I did not do that to my children and Grandchildren. I was certainly well on my way. It has been the best decision I ever made! Good luck on your journey! I am sure you will not regret it.
  20. I think this is definitely a personal choice that should be made with the aid of your surgical team. Comorbidities should play big role in your decision making. If you suffer from diabetes and Gerd, RNY is an excellent option to assist in making those illnesses go away. Gerd is a huge factor in deciding between RNY and the sleeve. RNY is the best option if you have that problem, the sleeve makes that worse. I am not sure about the lap band as many surgeons are offering it but it seems like it is falling to the bottom of their list. I was told if you are very young (and in good health, able to exercise alot) the band was a a option. You have to work much harder at the band. You still have to eat right and excercise with the other options as well, We were just told that the band is much more successful on younger, healthier people. Not sure if this is true.
  21. Speaking of good bariatric recipe sites, does anyone else have some good ones?

HA! You can have the fat clothes back!?

I am so sorry that happened to you and sorry for your loss! What is wrong with people? I am so glad that you recovered from your depression and have taken steps to get yourself healthy. You are not going to be sorry. I agree with one of the earlier posters, do something nice for someone else. I believe that Karma is a "B". The unkind things that people do will come back to them one way or another. Stay strong and keep us posted on your progress! Good luck!

    Pre op diet!

My last supper was my absolute favorite! Spaghetti and meatballs. I figured I might never see spaghetti again and I wanted to say goodbye. Pasta is definitely a trigger food for me. I never even considered "cheating" on the pre op diet. I knew that the purpose was to shrink my liver to make surgery safest for me. I was absolutely going to have the best best possible outcome and recovery. I also knew once I decided to move forward with something, I have a ton of will power and can do anything. I feel like I fought too hard and it was important to keep my eye on the prize. I am 7 weeks post op. I have dropped 4 clothing sizes, off all diabetes meds and off many other meds. I am not stopping for anything. I have not felt this good in years! You can do this! The first couple days are the hardest. Keep your eye on the prize! Good luck and keep us posted!

    Sugar

I have not yet had an episode of dumping. I try to stay away from sugary foods as much as possible to avoid that. I do not use sugar substitutes so I do have to be very careful. I wonder if I just might be one of the lucky folks that will not suffer from dumping. I am not going to find out, I have been conditioning my body to believe it to be true because I want to change my lifestyle. If there was one type of food that I gravitated toward before surgery it was definitely sweets. I was not a big eater, simply loved my sugar. Now, I could care less if I ever eat sweets again.
