Do you have degenerative arthritis or fibromyalgia?
bobbyswife posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would like to hear from sleeve patients that have degenerative arthritis and/or fibromyalgia about your results post sleeve. Do you feel better in reference to your joint pain? I know there is no specific [scientific] evidence that WLS results in reduction of fibro symptoms, but sometimes real people might disagree in what is or is not published in a medical journal. Surely the weight loss contributes to much less pain from degenerative arthritis though. Please share your story with me.- 40 replies

Do you have degenerative arthritis or fibromyalgia?
bobbyswife replied to bobbyswife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 10 days post op today and I am THRILLED to report that my surgery did not throw me into a fibro flare. I don't know how I escaped that, but I am not complaining! -

Get the cheap ones at Wal-Mart or Target. They're just as good and half the price. -

Nervous to eat again...
bobbyswife replied to wlsdivanyc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Protein first. Don't drink 15 mins before or 30 mins after a meal. Eat VERY slowly. Use a tiny plate and a tiny fork or spoon (cocktail size). Eat only foods on the approved list. NO SUGAR. It's going to be hard to understand what your new "full" feels like. Don't push it -
Stall at one week post op
bobbyswife replied to Sassafrassa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long could this "stall" possibly be if you're only a week out? Don't expect the scale NOT to fluctuate. It is what it is. Stalls and plateaus are generally defined as one week or longer. A day or two with no scale movement is not a stall. It's your body adjusting to changes. It's way too early to start freaking out. Breathe xoxo -
Protien on clear liquid diet

Chicken or beef broth, genepro, the Isopure if you can stomach it. It's pretty nasty but you can cut it with water or G2 and add MIO for extra flavor. -
still feeling bloated

It's normal for it to take a week or a little longer, but check with your surgeon to see when and if you should take any kind of laxative. -

I am on the sleeved side! I did have a massive hernia that needed repair but overall a great surgery.

I would strongly recommend grief counseling, preferably with a group of therapists that have a WLS specialist. If you're not involved with a face-to-face support group, seek that out too. The support here is amazing, but having a physical person around with a shoulder to cry on it so important. Especially if it's someone neutral / removed from the direct situation.

12-18 months is recommended. The longer you wait, the healthier your baby will be. You need lots of good nutrition for a healthy baby. Much more than your body can get just a few months out Best of luck to you and your growing family one day! Take some time to get really healthy so you'll be a healthy Mommy to a healthy baby

I haven't done anything right
bobbyswife replied to ELI.p.m's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nobody here can talk you into "behaving". You're going to have to muster up some internal strength to do this. Stop blaming others in your house for your inability to put down the fork. Do you want to stay fat? It's up to you. You have been given an amazing gift and I'm sure you're a wonderful person. Do yourself a favor and get your stuff straight. You only get one shot at this first "golden year". -
6 days post op today and so far I've had a great experience. I'm already 1/2 a lb. less than my Dr's one month goal for me and I'm learning how to manage life as a sleeved person. It's a whole new routine with different "rules" and totally different internal feelings. Almost no pain now other than the occasional gas discomfort and I'm up and around almost at 100%. I still get worn out after being up a while, but if I sit down for about 30 minutes I feel refreshed. Everyone who said keeping up with hydration, proteins and vitamins is a full time job wasn't lying, but it's worth it!

Get as creative as you can. Use s/f torani syrups to change the flavors of your shakes, munch on ice chips, enjoy different flavors of s/f jello.
