Upon reflection.......probably the wrong forum for this question.

Surgery is about 3 weeks out. I have to do the liver reduction pre op diet and I know about the post op diet stages. Of course all WLS materials tell you " no alcohol " even later on. I know there's calories but at this stage of my life I really enjoy a glass or 2 of red wine on the weekend nights. Is this gonna be a problem long term?

Lots of different ways to handle this and everyone has to deal with it their own way. Nice to see peoples different stories of how they dealt with it. No right or wrong.....

@Aunger......amazing..we have the same surgeon and date! We need to chat sometime and compare notes. Which sleeve are you having? I'm having the SIPS and in his study.

I also have a BMI in the 36 range and have been asked by many why I'm having WLS. When I explain I had crossed over into diabetes 18 months ago and that I hope to have full resolution of the diabetes and high cholesterol they begin to get it!

For me it was the beginning of diabetes. It's such a terrible disease.

I'm two weeks from surgery and more excited than afraid. What I have read here has only made me glad of my decision, stay positive!

Nov 14th, I'm in Raleigh. Thanksgiving will take on a whole new meaning!

I'm a very open person and have recently shared my health issues, diabetes and WLS on Facebook and amongst my friends. The amount of support has been overwhelming and gives me tremendous encouragement as I approach my surgery. I have had the occasional " won't diet and exercise work for you" but mostly positive comments. I own a business ( physical therapy ) and recently decided to be forthright with my employees about what my condition and plans . I'm planning on sending them an email 2 weeks before surgery. While this approach is not right for everyone I like to believe the best of people and hope for their support!

I too have not been able to find a lot of info. It is not considered experimental and Blue Cross is covering it. My surgeon says it has been done for 3 years in Spain and he has been doing them here recently and now has a grant for a study for long term. I will be in that study. He says that before long this be the surgical solution for diabetes in people who are not obese. Exciting stuff.....

Just got scheduled for Nov 14th for a new sleeve surgery with Single- Anastomosis Duodenoileal. (sips) SIPS is new, been done in Spain for 3 years. my surgeon is part of a large study and I have joined it. Get a few freebees. I'm excited and nervous.....

Posted Today, 7:23 AM So I went to my visit yesterday with my wife to get my band scheduled. At 5 ft 7 and 240lbs my main reason for WLS is ridding myself of diabetes. After a long conversation with my surgeon I have decided on a new procedure . The sleeve gastrectomy with single Anastomosis duodenoileal bypass. By bypassing the pancreas it results in diabetes resolution. It's been done in Spain for several years and recently in the US but data is limited. Any info from others is appreciated. BC/BS doesn't consider it experimental. It's approved . I'm actually going to be in a study my surgeon and six others in the US. mostly to gather long term data as the isn't any. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?....
