    Non-Scale Victories!!

My wedding rings are really loose! Not loose enough to fall off yet, but I find I have to pay attention to them more if they are in water, and take them off when giving the kids a bath. also, my husband said the other night while we were cuddling it was like holding onto a different person. I have (only) lost 22lbs. The NSV's are what keep me going.
  2. Hi everyone. I am glad I found this thread. Here is my dilemma. I have only lost 21.5 lbs, and can I have still fit my pants, sorta in the waist. They aren't that loose. HOWEVER, everywhere else I have lost inches and my pants look like elephant legs, and the bottom is really saggy. How much on average did you have to lose before you went the next size down? I am currently in an 18/20. thanks

How Long Until You Got Surgery?

I do not believe I was the norm at all, but I went for my consult November 12, 2007. I did not have any of the co-morbidities, however, was 100lbs overweight. I did have to complete the psych eval which took less than an hour. My insurance ROCKS and they approved me in about ten days. My surgery was january 4, 2008---so for me less than two months. Like I said I am sure this is a little unusual.
  4. This worked for me--find some rubbing alcohol preferably the little packs they should have in the First Aid kit at your work. Open them and put it right under your nose. Take a deep breath in and slowly exhale through your mouth. thats what they did after my surgery and it worked wonders...wish I had known about this trick for morning sickness! HTH and good luck!

    For those who have PCOS

Bandster 1007-- I am sorry to hear about the pcos. I, too have the same issue and never has my dr recommended a hysterectomy. I will preface this by saying I am not a dr but have lived with this disease for quite a long time and maybe I can help shed some light as my drs told me. You are young, and while you may need some help getting pregnant it can be done. If there is nothing wrong with your uterus there is no need for a hysterctomey. PCOS effects your ovaries, not your uterus and it effects your hormones. Removing your uterus will not change your symptoms nor do they recomment removeing your ovaries as that can put you in early menopause. Might I sugguest you see an endocrinologist or a fertility specialist even if you are not interested in conceiving? They may give you more insight into your options. Also, we conceived after I had a laporscopy and with only ONE tube open, and I am ten years older than you. Take heart and get a second opinion. Not that your dr is wrong, but keep your options open and be informed. good uck Mikki

    pole dancing

You know, I saw something on one of the infomercials about the pole and was tempted! he he, but then I thought, what if it can't hold me, and what if I fall on my head? Visions of my Dh having to pick me up off the floor stopped me LOL. Please keep us posted when you get the dvd and let us know how it is. I might be tempted to try it ! Good luck !
  7. Hi. I had my surgery on 1/4/08 and am scheduled for my first fill on 2/12/08. I have just started my soft food stage before I can go back to regular foods. anyway, is it normal to feel restriction before your first fill? Some days I feel like I can eat everything and anything I want to (mentally) but physically I can not. I have lost 15lbs since surgery. Is that normal? Is it normal to fill restriction before the first fill? Does this mean that when I get a fill I won't be able to eat at all? Just a thought. Any input is greatly appreciated. TIA Mikki

Dr. Will not let me drive!!!

Drs are funny. My initial instructions said to not drive for two weeks. My discharge instructions said I could drive once I stopped the pain medication and felt up to it. My Dh read the first instructions, told everybody I wasn't allowed to drive! so, I didn'tfor a week (blah). I finally wrestled the keys away from him 11 days post op. 15 days sounds excessive but he must have his reasons.
  9. Hi Jeni---been there. In your full liquds are you allowed souop? When I thought I was not going to make it anymore I pureed vegetable beef soup (Cambells from the can) and strained it. I don't know why but it got me through. I know its hard, but you will be pureed before you know it. My dr let me go on a whole week and a half earlier than I had anticipated. Where did you have your sx done? I too am in PA (philly) good luck!! Mikki

    New forum

Hi everybody. My name is Mikki and I have just found this forum. I am 35 ( I think I am still in shock about that) and was banded 1/4/08. Doing well, awaiting my first fill. Im married with two kids a girl 3 and a boy 10 months. So far my journey has been good so far. My DH is absolutely wonderful and I have a supportive family. Im glad to be on pureed foods thats for sure! Good luck to everyone on their journeys!
  11. I could not agree with you more. I know I have been conditioned over the years to think that 3oz of anything is not going to "be enough". What is interesting is that years ago, I could not finish an entire hamburger. i cut everything in half before I ate it and maintained a more normal weight. It was when I couldn't stand to leave anything behind as I was concerned about "future hunger" that I started to get in trouble. I will say that after the two weeks of Protein shakes I began to realize just how addicted to eating I had become. It was a detox to me of sorts. An added benefit I never considered prior to doing it. I believe that the first step to overcoming the brain hunger is recongnizing that its exists.

    Losing weight.......and friends

I, too, saw this show. My dad called and told me to watch it. My parents and DH have been extremely supportive of me, however, my sister has been less than supportive and has flat out said she didn't approve. I don't believe that woman on RR was being overy bragadocious as Im sure others can be at times. She was happy with her accomplishments and processing everything. What happened is that could no longer be defined as "the fat one"and that can be intimidating to those who have to keep others in a box or lower than in their minds to make themselves feel better. I know I lost friends after I got married and had kids. Not because I isolated them. I made a concerted effort to have them in my life, but they chose not to be apart of it. Same with having children and even when we decided I should become as stay at home mom. You never know what people's motivation is. I suggest that while we dont brag, we should be happy in our weight loss efforts and ACCOMPLISHMENTS! Its important to us. And if others can not be supportive then watch out for toxic people. Just because you are related doesn't mean they aren't toxic.

    Feeling a little down today.....

Sorry to hear this but I can sympathise. I am still on a full liquid diet and I think I could eat my arm right about now. I have been preparing meals for the family and it is very hard. I go jump on the scale when I get really discouraged, or I go to sleep! LOL Hang in there, you shouldn't have much longer!
  15. Hang in there! I too was banded on the fourth and yesterday was the first day I thought I was going to eat my husband and kids I was so hungry. I know you say the protein is gross, but what are you mixing it with? Did they give you any suggested recipes? I have some I would be happy to share if youwould like and you are allowed. What might help is egg drop soup. There is a recipe on here for it under the stickies and it let me "chew" a bit and made me feel a lot better. Also, don't hang out in the kitchen and go outside, even if it means sitting in the car. Invite people over so you won't eat. Thats what got me through. Also, I looked at pictures of how I wanted to look and thought if I can do THIS I can get to THAT. Hang in there....

    before pictures

Hi everyone! well, you all have inspired me. I was banded January 4, 2008. I am going to find a picture and post. Thanks for the inspiration!
  17. HI Tiffy. I was just banded on the 4th of this month. Congratulations on just considering the band. I, too was afraid of death but Im still here! The mortality rate is less than one percent.I believe its 1/1000, not 1/100. But your best bet is to go to an information seminar. They can answer all of the questions you have and help you make an informed decision as to what your next step should be. Good luck on your journey no matter where it takes you.

    Hello out there.........yawn

Hi everybody. This is my first post. My band was placed January 4th and so far so good. The first couple of days with the gas pain was horrendous, and I still have some, but mostly I feel pretty good. I can tell if I have lifted too much during the day. My dr has me on full liquids for three weeks. HA. You never miss chewing until you can't chew! But so far, with the help of my extremely supportive husband, I am making it through. Good luck to everyone and hope everyone is doing well.
