Thank you layknee. My nurse didn't describe all of that. Just said I needed to go to the bathroom pronto. I also take hycet which is a real BM inhibiter.

I had those awful friggin pains every hour yesterday. I called the nurse and asked about an acid buildup possibly and she said, "what acid are you talking about? Do you taste stomach acid? I told her no, that I wasn't feverish or nauseas but had these localized stabbing pains. She said if I could still pass gas, then there was no blockage and a leak would not stop after 10 mins. That I needed to got ot he bathroom more than likely and if I didn't go to call her back today. So, I tried miralax, milk of magnesia, a laxative with stool softener, and more gas x along with as much water as I could handle. It was so painful last night that I had to take another dose of oxycodone which I felt defeated the whole day. I have passed some gas last night, but still not gone to the bathroom. Round two today of that being my main objective. I have read where some of you have drank prune juice but honestly don't know if I could drink that? Is it really sweet bc I get nauseas if stuff is too sweet. Thanks guys.

@@freelyme okay I will. I just hated to raise a red flag in case it's just gas. My doctor is also an hour away, so I'm kinda hesitant to get in the car when in this much pain. I cannot get comfortable standing, sitting or laying down so I think a car will be awful. I don't take any of the meds you're talking about. The only meds they gave me are Zofran (anti-nausea) and oxycodone for pain. I haven't had any nausea and the liquids are going down fine. But I've stopped for the last half hour.

Does anyone know what a leak feels like? I'm having severe pains on my left side but don't know if gas has settled there or a bowel blockage. I don't want to overreact but it really hurts. I am walking around trying to dissipate any gas if that's what it is, but not helping. Just took pain med and one spoon of milk of magnesia. I also haven't had a BM since one week ago when I took a laxative before surgery. I wasn't that concerned with constipation bc I'm only on liquids, but is it possible? I feel like if it was a leak I'd be on the floor. I'm close tho to being there.

This doesn't sound fair. Everyone is losing weight but me. I was losing up to the day of surgery, and then I GAINED 2 lbs. I'm 5 days out and I still haven't lost even the two I gained. Very frustrating!

Yes! I also have a very rumbly tumbly. I have pain and cramping on my left side incision sites. Most of the time they are "grit and bear it" pains but every so often it feels like someone shot me with a 38 special. Where I can't even breathe. Fortunately, that's only happened twice. My liquid shots of protein are so sweet that they're disgusting. That and the liquid oxycodeine. Grossss.

Hello ladies! Update: I had my surgery yesterday afternoon and everything went very smoothly. They just disconnected my self activated pain pump and we'll go Tylenol from here. Just got back from X-ray to check for leaks and passed that test so I can start oral fluids within the hour. I have been sleeping nonstop. Went to the bathroom a few times but no walks yet. Mild discomfort in the upper stomach bc of the HH repair, but other than that everything's been a breeze so far. No nausea to speak of, no itching, and really no gas pain. It didn't hurt to urinate after the catheter, and no drain. I'm feeling very blessed and happy. The only negative is the excessive dry mouth and that terrible tasting barium.

These doctors are so different in their diet plans pre and post op!! My doctor says no vitamins or supplements for 4 weeks except B complex which should be taken on day 3 post-op. And ALL of them should be liquid or chewable. They stress that so much. The nurse said the other day that the worst part of my surgery will be the hiatal hernia site bc it's hard to breathe afterward. The keep you in hospital for an extra day due to that. And an extra hole in my bra line. Reading what y'all have written re: constipation, I'm def going to be taking a laxative to the hospital with me to get ahead of that hopefully. 4 days and counting! (And by the way, my headaches have gotten so much better- now for the energy levels to come up!)

Thank you @amylynns. It's good to know that it's a 'normal' reaction or common, and I don't have a tumor or anything pressing upon my brain! My mind wanders to the worst case scenario.. I'll try extra water too.

I have thought about substituting 1-2 of those shakes with broth, but I start feeling dizzy every 3 hours if I don't get my protein in. I'll see if my powder will dissolve in broth.

Hey, I'm on my third day of liquid diet; 5 protein shakes per day and that is IT. That hasn't been a problem with hunger, I'm staying full, but I have been getting these weird headaches. It's like my brain is swelling too big for my skull to contain. Like a tightening band around my head and lots of pressure. I thought it might be too much protein (I got 184 g yesterday and had to back off on my last shake), but after sleeping all night and then having my first shake, I'm getting my headache back. I will cut down today to around 90g just to see if it relieves anything. Also, my jaw keeps popping like it wants to come come out of joint. These are the only problems, but they are really bothersome. Is anyone else having these issues?

I was told if I didn't bring mine the hospital would use theirs and it would be VERY expensive and insur wouldn't pay bc I have one that they already pd for.

Wow- that's a hard decision Amylynns, bc obviously you don't have all of the info needed to make that decision yet. And a lot of mental prep to possibly go back in 1-2 weeks for the sleeve after he looks around. It sure would be better for him to use his judgement once he's inside since you gave him permission. I feel for you. Hey, don't most people lose just as much with the sleeve tho as with RNY? Maybe just a little slower, but with none of the trauma to the intestine?

Oh no. That's sucks. I figured I would have to wear it in the hospital too, but with all of the waking up they plan on doing, I won't get sleep anyway... I've actually thought, "what if I throw up in this thing?" That's disgusting, and I'd no doubt choke to death.

Hahaha!! I am laughing so hard! New name- We're gonna have to rename you freeballin instead of bronxmerci! And since we're on the subject, did you have to have a catheter too? And if so, are you sore? Like does it hurt to go after one?

Day 7 of my pre-op diet tomorrow. Then I have to start my second week at 5 protein shakes a day and nothing else. (At least I can still use a straw! Shakes are hard to drink without one) One day of clear liquid before surgery. I go to the hospital tomorrow for my pre surgery weigh in and labs/ chart review and meet the anesthesiologist. I've already gotten my nausea patch request put on my chart but I'll ask for phenergan too. It helped so much with my pregnancies. My kids are being helpful by getting their own dinner, but they're getting Moe's and Chickalay (as my daughter calls it) and Subway. Ughhh! They wanted me to make Spaghetti tonight and I said NO WAY. Alsoooo, I have a black Juicy sweatsuit that I haven't worn in so long (not pink tho, and no label on the butt) and I loved the pants so much. My kids said "mom, that's so 2007! You can't wear that!" And I said "you watch me!" Whatevahh,, I'll embarrass them for the fun of it. They keep sitting on my bed wanting to cuddle and one was talking about people at school having pink eye and another having lice and then the other one openly sneezed and I told them to GET OUT!!!!!!! I do NOT want to get sick!

I've heard that a lot.. "You're going to be a different person". Hey, I WILL be a different person. The one I used to be. This person here right now is the different person I'm trying to ditch. I think that overweight people around us are afraid that we will leave them behind. ie; not sit in the couch snacking and watching our fav shows, we will actually WANT to go shopping and will be excited to try on new clothes, etc. My daughter has told me that I'm going to get skinny and she'll still be overweight. I told her we'll excercise together and that will be our new thing to do, but I know she still feels sad.

You'll do fine. We all will with each other's help. I didn't know a darned thing about the pre diet of this or the recovery until I joined this group. Everyone is so honest and informative and supportive. It's great to be "talking" with people just coming home and giving each other tips. I have learned so much already! The other thing is that other people are voicing my concerns and fears too, so I know that I'm not alone in feeling this way. I also am afraid of failing like I have with every diet bc of "screwing up", but I know that this is my big chance and I feel confident that the gym and I am going to be on good terms and I will regain the confidence I once had. My kids are all able to pretty much take care of their essential needs now, so it's time I do the same and like myself again. I am also very excited to go out and make new friends at the gym with a fitness goal in mind and not sitting around over food and wine complaining about husbands and neighborhood stuff. I am feeling so positive and blessed right now. Tomorrow might be another story with new challenges, but one day at a time, and it too shall pass! Sorry- feel like I was on a soap box there. I'm just so glad I'm doing this for myself.
