  1. I had similar issues. I was not diabetic, but used my husbands meter and found out my blood sugars were high 70's low 80's..too low for me. I was able to have milk, and once i started that with its little bit of carbs, I felt much better. I also red that once some of the swelling goes down, it gets better. Mine was genuine hunger, not "head hunger" and it is MUCH better 4 weeks out. Hang in!

  2. Thanks Peek! Did they tell you to kind of advance yourself, or do you see the surgeon again before you do that? My handout just says over the next 3 weeks advance to "normal" kinds of food...and they want us to start with mashed potatoes, funny how all the surgeons are different. Glad you are feeling so well...aside from getting a nasty cold, I am feeling OK, too.

  3. Peek, you seem to be a week ahead of me, did you start with one "meal" a day?

I go to MD in am, I have not been able to have any creamed Soups, the only treat has been milk. Tomorrow I hopefully get the OK to start "mushy" food, then transition to "normal" eating over the next 3 weeks. I am actually nervous to eat, not sure why. On my mushy list is "very dry wheat toast"...so I am kind of assuming anything that melts in your mouth will be considered OK?

I went back to work today, don't work agin til Friday....My sleep is kinda messed up, so I am happy about starting back slowly to work.

Also curious if anyone's MD has said Motrin is OK in the future? The nut said no, but a nurse I spoke with said yes...I am seeing conflicting stuff on NSAIDS on the net.

  4. Trying my best to keep up with you active chatters :P

Congrats to all on doing so well. I am not seeing my MD until next Weds and have to keep going with clear liqs and milk/protein shakes until then. I have been dying to taste some creamed Soup for crying out loud..but the fear of problems is keeping me honest..funny how that can motivate.

@chellede what is 'double milk' I would love to get 60g of Protein in one hot chocolate. BTW you are gorgeous in the bikini...I love your attitude!

I had a day of retail therapy at the mall with my friend, and fantasized about all of the great outfits I will soon be able to fit into. It did me a world of good to get out and do that today.

It was also my youngest's 6th birthday, and I have successfully stayed away from frosting and ice cream...perhaps my sugar whore days are over, because I didn't even want them!

I was glad to read that the pain kind of comes and goes, because I had been pain free for two days, then it returned today, so all normal.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, Leslie

  5. I am there with you. I am 9 days out, and faced similar feelings. I am on just liquids for 5 more days and have to cook for my family as well...and it's hard...but, I know that the first 6 months are when the weight loss occurs, so I have to remind myself that this very strict phase is temporary. On youtube there is a video a girl made of what she eats 2 years post VSG. Check it out, it will lift your spirits. Yes we will learn to eat differently and better (hopefully) but we will be able to enjoy food again. I think our bodies take a big hit with surgery, and then has limited nutrition to recover, so that affects you initially, too. My husband had RNY 2 years ago, and enjoys his meals very much. I think it's very normal to grieve an old lifestyle, it doesn't mean we won't be able to embrace the new one..but it takes time and support. Good you have your husband on your side, and seek out your bariatric meetings like someone else posted, that's what I'm gonna try too :)

  6. I had mine on the 14th. It has been a challenge to get Water in..luckily they allow milk, and I have mixed my Protein Powder in that, and it saved me! I was very nauseous until yesterday, I wasn't taking any narcotics or anything because of my stomach...I felt like I wasn't doing as well as others who we're saying they were ready to get back to work by day 5. I am walking,etc...have been out to store, but feel tired.

I had relief from gas pains by putting heating pad on my shoulder or abdomen.

I wonder how much in oz. are you taking in? I am able to get 4, but now in reading stuff worry if I risk a leak by too much?

Each day gets a little better. I do feel hungry at times today.

I watched a video of a girl on you tube showing her diet at 2 years out...it looked great :P

  7. Susan

I was sleeved about 130 in the afternoon and I got out of surgery about 3 p.m. I was out of it for that first night I did come around about 600 and I did not have any severe pain or even any gas pain I was doing a little bit of burpIng. I did throw up about 10 p. M. And it was a bloody Bile type of throw up. My doctor was called and said it was fine, just oozing from the surgery. It didn't happen again. I was able to do my swallow test the next morning and that went well. I got out of the hospital about 4 p.m. On the second day. I am able to drink Protein drinks as well as the required Water. My doctor required me to drink 90 to 100 grams of Protein a day but the liquid was included in my liquid total.

With the first couple days did you have sensation of choking at all with the Water?

  9. Angie, I am right there with you. I have anxiety...but I am trying so hard to keep it in check. I am a nurse, and think in terms of worst case scenarios, but truth is...look around, I have only seen people with positive outcomes, so that's what I am going with! I am going to try some meditation tonight, and lots of prayers...hope to hear from you tomorrow night..hugs..we can do this!

  10. Holy crap...I really want to say other stuff, lol...I am all over the place today chedelle and Susan I can relate!!! Best of luck all going tomorrow and hope todays crew is recovering already and feeling OK by now. I have to be there 8am...surgery at 10..praying for God and Angels to watch over all of us...scared and sort of ready thats the best I got.

  11. I wrote a similar post a week ago...and had a fair share of people telling me a couple 'horror stories'...I am due to go on Tuesday, and although I am frightened, the thought of being obese scares me more. I have tried to stay busy, and focus on the positives. I have noticed most people sharing here say they are feeling pretty good post op, It's very encouraging to read the posts! Good Luck

  12. So glad to hear from those who are a couple weeks out..you sound great, and the encouragement keeps me going. Only 4 days to go.

Saw my chiropractor today, see him regularly, and he decided to play 'devil's advocate' with me and give me all the reasons not to have the surgery. He's very nice...but also very THIN, and I finally (after a 20min discussion and telling me the complications of another patient with vertical sleeve) had to tell him he could never understand from an obese person's perspective how it is possible not to control what you eat...and that this conversation should not be going on with me at 4 days pre-op...especially since he knows I backed out of my lap band surgery 2 years ago, just 4 days before the surgery. I sat in the car and cried a bit, then read some of these posts, and reminded myself that this is the right thing to do...for ME, so I thank you all for that!
