  1. First off, let me just say that this post is in no way meant to talk down about gastric sleeve or to promote unhealthy eating habits.

I'm scheduled to do my sleeve in September, but I've started having some second thoughts; maybe it's just pre-surgery jitters.

I've seen several people say they eat between 700-1200 calories after surgery (sometimes less depending on where they are in their journey) while exercising, and that made me curious. If I chose not to get sleeved and ate a nutrient dense diet which was only about 1200 calories, then burned 300 calories most days per week (net calories equaling about 900) would this have the same affect as getting sleeved?

I'm asking because I have always heard that such a diet is unhealthy because your body isn't getting enough calories, but from everything I've read and been told the sleeve is healthy.

I guess I'm a little confused in the difference between getting the sleeve and doing a restriction diet like the one I mentioned (other than the fact that the sleeve is not a diet, I know that).

    Thanks in advance everyone :)

  2. *sigh* Well, I guess I'm not getting it done on August 5th. :(

I'm self-pay and the other half of my money just fell through. Fingers crossed for September!

In the mean time, I'm trying to stay positive but I keep stumbling across sites which boast hateful comments toward overweight people and had someone call me some really nasty names this past weekend.

Promise me it will get better?

  3. Got Surgery date today! It will be August 24th. I was hoping it would've been a little sooner since I started at the end of January but I'll take it! Going to keep on losing on my own til it gets here! I'm 250 5' 5" (started at 299.8). I really want to be under 200 by Christmas!

That's so exciting! I'm 5'5" starting at 360 and I'm hoping to be at 250 by the end of February. Hehe maybe a little too bold of a goal, but hey better to have one than none at all, right? :)

  4. I'll be using my care credit. I have some appointments in the Dallas area next month. Drs. Kim, Nicholson (Carlton), and one other. My friend Deb is there and we want to try to do it together. I hope one of them can do the "making surgery affordable" plan since I'm self pay. Crossing my fingers, eyes, and toes!

    I understand completely!

I visited Dr. Kim's office, but I don't think our personalities meshed very well. He's a very skilled surgeon, but I wanted someone I felt more comfortable with through this whole journey.

I'm going with Dr. Scott Stowers now. He's awesome and he works with the cash pay price in a way that makes it cheaper than Dr. Kim's.

Whoever you go with, it's so exciting! Good luck :)
