  1. So I’m getting annoyed by all of the comments and questions from people on my weight loss. I’m not comfortable sharing the fact that I had weight loss surgery, but I work in a VERY large medical office and literally every day somebody is commenting on my weight loss and asking what I’m doing. I don’t even know some of these people; I only know they work for our office because of their name tag. I was giving short non-committal answers, but people insist on continuing to ask questions. It’s gotten to the point that employees are approaching my assistant and asking her how I’m losing weight. I’m just over it. I can’t be too short or blunt with my responses because then I’LL be the one to get in trouble with HR (I know this from previous experience).

My husband thinks I should give every person who asks about my weight loss method a different answer. So tell one person I have a tapeworm, another person that an old gypsy woman put a curse on me, etc.
So, I am requesting your assistance. What is the most outrageous, completely ridiculous reason you can think of that I can use to explain my weight loss?

Edit: thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. However, I think I didn’t explain well enough. I’m not looking for “plausible” reasons for my weight loss. I’m looking for completely outlandish, obviously not true reasons to basically point out that they’re not going to get an answer from me because it’s none of their damn business. Also, I will NOT lie and say I have cancer or another illness. That is diminishing the experience of people who are dealing with those issues and it’s not right.

I wear my mask all day and night so I haven't eaten anything for 5 months. Safety first.

  2. Well guys this is my monthly check in or check up.
i hope I'm able to offer some inspiration to those who are yet to have surgery or still deciding.
But I have got to say this roux en Y gastric bypass operation has saved my life!!!
It's officially 9 months since I had my surgery here in Australia and it has been amazing, a breeze, no issues at all and lost weight consistently every month.
I've been in maintenance now 3 months pretty much with my weight sitting on average 165lbs but I've also seen 163,164 and 165.
i still weigh myself most days; it's a habit.
i don't worry about logging my food but I do keep a mental note of my intake calories; I still use shakes most days as some days I'm not hungry but others day I am really hungry...
I can eat mostly anything without any major issues and my weight has not changed at all which is great.
So 9 months since surgery and 11 months since preop diet.
Feeling amazing; looking great; starting to feel confident finally and my birthday coming very soon.
Had to buy some more clothes once again even though my weight isn't changing I think my body composition is changing like overtime your skin may retract and I think mine is doing it naturally or via gravity either way it's Great.
159lbs lost at my lowest weight but as I said my weight can vary a few lbs from day to day.
I'll be 36 very soon but I look and feel 26 and can't wait to start living life and finding a lovely lady.
My journey is over but I still have to keep focused and make sure I monitor my weight for the long term.
i just want to say it is possible to be successful. It is possible to lose ALL your excess weight and keep it off...
    Thank you.

  3. I had my surgery scheduled with Dr. Shillingford at the Northwest Medical Center for early August until COVID cases went up, and now they are offering since I am self-pay that I go with Dr. Wizman at the Broward Health Coral Springs Center. I don't know much about Dr. Wizman. Anyone have some info. they can share. I may just wait until elective surgeries open up again.

I went with Dr. Wizman in November. I don't believe you will find a surgeon more knowledgeable or experienced down here. He was great and his staff is great. The support they provide for life is great. I highly recommend.

  4. hello there just doing my monthly check in for those who are interested.
So it's officially 8 months since I had my RNY BYPASS surgery.
    My journey has been good.
Started high weight of 322lbs and I've been in maintenance now 2 months.
I sit consistently around 165LBS most days but my lowest recent weight was 163lbs.
I have definitely been enjoying alot more variety in my diet since maintenance began and I can tolerate most foods but still use shakes if needed.
I am now consuming around 1500kcal most days even a few treats here and there without any side effects or weight gain.
I'm feeling amazing and looking good.
I'll be 36 in about 5 weeks but feel healthier than I have in 20 years!!!
I am glad I did the right research and chose the BYPASS as my first and only surgery and I'm amazed how well I've done.
never ever expected to lose 100% EBW but I've done it and my surgeon says I'm an anomaly only about 5% of his patients ever lose that much [emoji4]
I know it's only early days and things might change in regards to malabsorption of calories and such but I'll be sure to keep an eye on my weight for the long term.
I just want everyone to see it is possible to be successful and reach all your goals.
you just have to be 150% focused on your goals from day 1.
Thank you all and I'll appreciate any comments.
    Mike

Congrats man. That's awesome. I started at 316 and had surgery a few weeks after you (November 4). Down to 194 right now. Really impressive what you've done. People think it's easy after surgery, but I know it isn't.

  5. I am posting this in the hopes that it may help someone....

Onederland. I have read other people post about onederland for years now, and never thought it would one day be me. It just seemed so far out of reach. During my years of trying all different diet fads, I got close, but never hit the magic number (only to gain back everything, plus). Yesterday, was my first memory of ever seeing a 1 as the first digit on the scale.

Less than 8 months ago, I weighed 316 pounds, scared out of my mind about surgery, and wondering if I would even lose 100 pounds in the end. The road hasn’t always been easy, but the results are so worth it. For those on the fence (as I was for 5 years) I can tell you without hesitation that this was the right move for me. As so many people have said before, my only regret is not doing it sooner.

  6. So, yesterday was 12 weeks. Hard to believe... Full of ups and downs, but really glad to be on this side of it. Energy levels have been pretty low throughout, but have been increasing lately. My 6-week blood work showed I was very low on Iron, which certainly explained that. I adjusted by Vitamins and have to redo my blood-work next week.

I eat about 600-700 calories a day and 80-100 grams of Protein, although mu NUT said I need to aim for 120. I am getting better at drinking, averaging 60 ounces. I am still surprised at how little I can eat. I feel full after just a few bites and can only eat about 2 ounces of protein per meal, even at 3 months. I am not complaining, it just makes getting in protein more difficult. I am also only drinking non-dairy Protein Drinks. I still don't get hungry, although my cravings have hit pretty strong in the 3rd month. I have been very strict on my plan and as much as I just wanted one tortilla chip to experience the crunch, I did not.

I am 40 years old and started at 316, 7-days pre-op. I was 301 on the day of surgery. I weigh myself once a week on a body fat scale ( https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07WZNBWPJ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_oCimEbWYGQ4CV).

At 12 weeks, I am at 250.2, down nearly 51 lbs. I am down 7.6 in BMI and 11.6% body fat.

I really try not to compare myself with others, as hard as that is. I am happy with my progress, and I have been pretty lucky with the stalls, so far.

  7. Hello November sleevers! 11/4/19
I'm following Dr and RD as close as possible. My biggest struggle is weakness which has been ongoing. Im down 37 lbs and averaging 2.3 a week. Getting Protein in at 65 -75 a day along with Water. Adding small portions of food as directed. Weakness affects energy etc etc. See Dr. again 2/18. Do any of you have similar symptoms? Thanks! Gloria

    Gloria,

I finally started getting my energy back at around week 7. End of week 8, I met with my trainer for a relatively light workout. Must have overdone it because since then, I have been feeling so drained, like week 2.

  8. Thank you for sharing. I'm wondering where everyone else is at now that our diet is "regular?"
I have been doing my best to follow a certain diet, but gave up on the Keto diet about 2 weeks ago. Since adding carbs back into my diet I have absolutely no problem getting at least 1000 calories per day, sometimes I may eat more.
Of course my weight loss has slowed to a snails pace. Last week was only 0.8 pounds and this week seems like it will be less.
I need to get myself back into gear. I need to log my foods and stop "cheating" with Recese's Peanut Butter cups. I'm just being honest, and I'm wondering if anyone else has fallen off the band wagon as horribly as I have?
If not, someone please give me some kick in the ass words of encouragement, and I am going to switch gears before the time passes and I am out of this initial 6 month honeymoon phase.
    Sincerely,
    Week #6 post op
    And
    35 lbs lost since surgery
(Not enough weight lost for me to give up after everything I've been through)

    Heather,

As I see it, I'm on borrowed time. I have a six month honeymoon period I'll never have again. I don't see cheating as an option for myself. I see so many other people on this chat struggling to lose weight after 8-12 months. I didn't go through all of this to reach the halfway mark. You got this. You know what to do.

  9. Calories for the First Six Months

Immediately after surgery, your doctor will place you on a liquid meal plan, which helps your stomach heal from surgery. You gradually progress to pureed and soft foods before eating solid foods and establishing a normal bariatric meal plan. Once you're able to eat solid foods, the typical gastric bypass meal plan for the first six months consists of three small meals and two Snacks for a total of between 1,000 and 1,300 calories per day.

    Calorie Breakdown

The goal of your post-surgery meal plan is to get enough nutrients while adjusting to the smaller size of your stomach. Aim to balance each meal with Protein and vegetables or fruit and get at about 50 grams of protein daily. If you're following a 1,000- to 1,300-calorie post-surgery meal plan a good goal is to have two snacks contain 100 to 150 calories each. Based on the calorie range of this plan, your three main meals contain roughly 250 to 350 calories each.
I'm almost 10 weeks out and averaging only 600-650 calories per day....
