Bathroom Situation ?
Hello all. I have to ask, after surgery, can one go to the bathroom without help? I find it very humiliating having someone else help me clean up in the bathroom.... What has been your experiences?

LIver Shrinking Diet
Consider yourself lucky that you get to chew at least once a day. I am stuck on day 2 of my pre-op liquid diet and I have had nothing but headaches. 72 grams of Protein intake which is great, but for some reason, nothing but headaches here..........which I can chew, even it is just an olive.

This Time Next Year...
Love your post! I can relate to a few of yours. My surgery is Jan 12th. Got the approval on the 19th of Dec. Currently, I am on my first date of pre-op diet and it is not easy to say the least. I hope to get stronger as the days go by. My hopes for this time next year: 1. 100 lbs lighter 2. Can actually close the belt in the airplane and fit in the seat. 3. No more swollen legs and migraines 4. I can stop envying the runners and become one. 5. Better self esteem 6. Close my Lane Bryant and Avenue credit card because I won't need to shop in there anymore. And disregard the Dress Barn. It would be nice to shop at a normal place and not a place with the word "barn" in it. *sigh* I have endurance, I can be very active if the mood is right. However, my self esteem is floored and that doesn't help at all.

Pre-Op Diet~ Thoughts

Pre-Op Diet~ Thoughts
I just came back from a 10 day vacation and you know I splurged. I didn't over eat, but I ate everything that is possibly bad for me. I guess you may call it the "last supper" syndrome. So today I started my first day on the "pre-op" diet. I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner. As a snack I am going to allow myself a cup of Soup (cream of chicken). Technically, my pre-op diet is 14 days long and nothing but Protein shakes, sugar free liquids and no caffeine. So I am sneaking in the cup of soup in there because I need to taste something other than chalky Protein powder & milk. I am going through mix emotions. This morning I was so hungry that I was regretting the pre-op diet and surgery. I was in my "F***it" mood. But I stuck by it and in a very grumpy mood I did my shake. Then for lunch I took an "on the go" shake. I had errands to run and I felt energetic, and light. I felt good. Then when I return home, I know it is dinner time and my boyfriend needs to eat. So we went to do light groceries. You know, it is amazing what you take for granted! I don't eat fruit, I was staring at that banana as if it was talking to me. Then I glanced at the oranges and said to myself, damn that looks good. Then I looked at the hummus. I hated hummus. Well, guess what? I could eat hummus with a shovel right now. Wheat crackers, wheat bread, soup, lean turkey. GOOD GOD, why have I been so bad? Why did I not eat healthier before? So here I am waiting for my boyfriend to pick up his deli sandwich and I am staring at the olive buffet.(different kind of olives, self serve). I tell my boyfriend..."What I would give to suck on a big fat olive!" So not fair. So in the car, as we were going home I was thinking....you know? This sucks. I am basically punshing myself. I have been such a bad girl with my eating habits all this time that now, NOW I am going to punish my body by starving it into protein shakes and cutting up my organ. What kind of Sh**T is that? I pout. (notice the negativity kicking in) I came home and to be honest I have had the runs. First day on pre-op and nothing put protein shakes and I have the runs? Why? Is this normal? Anywho- I come out of the bathroom all grumpy and my boyfriend is scooping chocolate protein powder in a glass and I asked him what was he doing? He said "making you dinner". And he did. I have been drinking it sitting on my computer why he endulges on a deli sandwich in the living room. I cannot sit with him right now. But the shake did take the edge off. Tommorrow is my first day back to work and it is going to be very challenging to say the least. UGH.

First Steps in the pre-surgery process
Hello. I know what you are going through. I started the process in June and I finally finished my 6th dietician appt earlier this month. I also did the Psych eval too this month as well. Good news today, I found out I was approved and I am possibly looking at Jan 12. I have had 6 mths to train my brain on these new changes I have to make. I have been doing changes here and there trying to adapt. I still find it hard to get away from old habits. But as time gets closer, you will get excited and I think the excitement will drive you to do it more. For example, I know that I have to start my pre-op diet on the 29th. Man, am I going to be grouchy. But even though I am little scared, I am excited as well. I feel that the excitement is going to drive me to do the right things. To be continued!

Chew Like a Camel
HI Babbs, thank you for letting me know. One of the fears of doing this surgery is, you want to be as normal as you can considering all the limitations. I am not a pill popper = this surgery will require some massive Vitamin pill poppin I am not a careful chewer = I was getting the impression you have to chew like a camel for the rest of your life I like my wine cooler once in a blue moon = this is still questionable I like my piece of warm bread once in a while - this surgery is nothing but Protein, I will cluck and mooo before you know it. I guess the bottom line is, I am thinking...can one be as close to "normal" as one can after having the sleeve surgery?

Chew Like a Camel
So, if I get approved ....I am assuming mid Jan to late Jan. I am sure there are pre op tests and what not. But. My dietician kept focusing on the chewing. She kept telling me that I will have to chew food to a paste. My question to everybody is....is that forever? I get that the chew pasty thing is a must for post op. But I am going to have to chew like a camel for the rest of my life.? It will be really hard to enjoy what you are eating and get grossed out. Tell me it isn't so.

Need Suggestions on Where to by Liquid Protein, etc.
Thank you everyone, this is helpful and points me into the right direction. The reason for the liquid Protein versus powder it is because aside from the Protein shakes, I was told to add protein to my Water to sip throughout the day. They gave me a sample of something called "Pocket Protein" that is a concentrated liquid (strawberry) and you can add it to flavor your water and it has protein in it. (15 grams). Can't go to the store to get it, it is online only. http://www.amazon.com/Pocket-Protein-15g-Strawberry-nutrition/dp/B00OUB17O8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418170978&sr=8-1&keywords=pocket+protein I wish I can find things like this at the local store so I can try samples of it instead of buying cases.

Hello everyone, I am looking for suggestions on what has worked for you and is tolerable: Best liquid Protein products Best tasting Protein Bars with low to no sugar Best tasting protein powders I have been to Vitamin Shoppe and GNC and I am not finding like a concentrated Liquid Protein you can add to Water to sip all day to meet protein requirements for after surgery. Any suggestions, links, name of products welcomed! Thanks.

Cold Feet For Surgery
Thank you for your response. You made valid points and I will certainly think about what you stated. It is true. I am tired of being tired, fat, stared upon, etc. I am my worst enemy. I am very hard on myself, so I do enough damage emotionally that what others don't affect me at that point. So yes, I have to build the courage as time is getting near. I haven't told anyone, because I don't have support for this. Only one person.
