I took a cuddly blanket I love to the hospital with me. Couldnt sleep the night before surgery but I spent most of my stay at hospital postop sleeping with my face buried happily in my blanket lol. I mustve been a little high on painkillers because now that I think of it, its funny just how blissfully relaxing it was to me! Good luck!

Whoa! Ok, about 9 hours post op and needing some advice and encouragement. Very nauseous! And the pain in my chest from the gas is...well...painful! Whoever said to bring Chapstick is right on!! Thank you!! Can't start liuid diet until testing this morning is complete, but have no desire to eat or drink!! Would love to just sleep, but you know what it is like being in the hospital! Ok, I am keeping a positive attitude! Hope all the other sleevers are doing well!!

Sept. 30!! Just a few hours away now. My surgery is at 7:30 tomorrow morning - I have to leave the house at 5:30 and I'm counting hours and minutes now instead of weeks and months! Woohoo...very excited!

Sorry for the delay in update, so here's my story so far. Surgery was on 9/24 at 115pm, I was in recovery by 4pm in horrible pain (had sleeve & hiatal hernia). Was given strong pain meds which helped. Once back in room was made to walk within 2 hours. Gas was horrible and spending night in hospital was sleepless and painful since I didn't ask for pain meds in time. Note to all ask for pain meds early. From there it all changed, after that horrible tasting leak test I was informed of no leaks and started on liquid diet. After drinking about 12 to 14 oz of various liquids over 4 hours I was cleared for release. YEAH. Went home took I pain pill and haven't looked back since, no pain, just some gas that gas x took care of. Was able to get 30g Protein Shake down on Friday and have increased to 60+ grams of Protein Shakes, sf Jello, and 28oz of Water down per day. I actually went back to work today (only 1/2 day) but its a start. Had buyers remorse Friday but as of today only bad effect is tiredness. Even normal bowel movements have returned. I'm down 5 pounds since pre-surgery and happy. Have a follow up tomorrow with my doctor. Just to all take it slow, walk as much as possible and take deep breaths. While the journey started out tough I'm looking forwards with positive thoughts.

I drink socially now as I did pre-op, but I can't drink as much or as fast due to volume restrictions. I tend to choose cocktails or white wine now, (beer makes me feel bloaty because of the bubbles and red wine sometimes gives me reflux). Also, I try to eat a couple hours before to accommodate the no drinking while eating rule. Makes my food "float" when I break it which is never good. When I drink, I count the calories into my daily totals and stay within the limits I've set for myself in my food log.

Actually - it's the other way around. The pre-op diet is too shrink your liver as it sits on top of the stomach and they have to retract it in order to perform the surgery. A large and brittle liver won't work. As for preparing you for small meals...you don't need to be prepared. Most of your stomach has
Been removed. You won't be hungry. I'm having a much easier time with hunger/nausea after the surgery than before. I'm not hungry at all and I'm amazed at how little I need to eat to feel okay. On the pre-op diet I was nauseas and fatigued. I'm only 6 days post op but I have more energy now than before on the pre-op diet and that is at about 700 calories/90 grams Protein. Just try to get through pre-op diet as best you can. Best to all!

Control is not love. You may believe that what you feel for him is love, but is it really addiction? If you give in to his power play then you will regret it for the rest of your time with him....which doesn't sound like you have much left. The guy is looking for a reason to leave you. If it is not this, it will be something else in the future. Once you have lost the weight and are healthier mentally and physically, there will be other men who you may love much more.

Chubby chasers tend to want to be someone's daddy. They want a co-dependent relationship because the more dependent upon them that you are, the less likely you are to ever leave. He has issues and you can't solve any of them. Not a single one.
The new, skinny you is a direct threat to his security and your dependence on him. This tantrum is his ultimatum to you and if you love yourself more than you love him, you'll do exactly what it is that you've planned, which is surgery.
If you don't follow through with your plan and he gets his way, your marriage will suffer anyway. He doesn't have to agree with your choice but he does have to respect it. If he can't do that then there are way more problems in your relationship than having WLS.
This situation sucks and I'm sorry that you have to focus on this instead of concentrating on having surgery and recovering.

@@JakeLancaster , I can't even get him to sit down with me at this point to talk he is so upset. He mentioned to me when I first asked his opinion about the surgery that I "would get all skinny and leave him for someone else" but I reassured him at that time that "I love him and me getting 'skinny' is so we can live a happier and healthier LONGER life together." Apparently he is not seeing that portion.
I love this man very very much, even with all his asshole qualities but I don't know how to make him feel it will be ok even if I am smaller then I am now.
My Fat is what attracted him in the first place and I have known from the beginning that he was a chubby chaser but I guess I Just thought he would fall in love with more then just my fat. I don't even know how to pin down how he feels at this point.

YAY! I had my surgery yesterday. It occurred at Des Peres Hospital in Des Peres, ( St. Louis) MO. I know everyone will have different experiences based on where they have the surgery, but here's what I experienced:
10 AM REGISTRATION: Registered (even though I pre-registered the day before on the phone) and made a payment on my portion after insurance 10:45 PRE-SURGERY PREP: The nurse took my vitals, reviewed my medical history, took urine, and had me change into a gown. 11:30 HOLDING: I laid in a bed in an area called "pre-surgery". It was kinda awkward because there were 7 other people in the room waiting for various surgeries. Some were staring at each other. You could here all of their machines beeping. Some were moaning. I asked for magazines to avoid getting nervous. The anesthesiologist came and asked me a bunch of questions and explained the process to me. Then Dr. Minkin showed up and answered any final questions I had. 1:30 SURGERY: I was wheeled into the OR. I was given some medicine via IV and was out cold within seconds. 3:00 RECOVERY: This was the worst experience ever. I woke up and though I was having a heart attack. (I must state that I was not aware that they put gas in your stomach to make room for the surgery.) The gas was all up in my chest and I truly thought I was dying. My throat was so dry that I was begging for someone to help me. They finally gave me some wet gauze to suck on.: 4:30 ARRIVAL IN ROOM: I arrived in my room ( all rooms at Des Peres are private). My nurses got me all set up, took my vitals, and gave me pain meds, nausea meds, and pepcid. They also hooked my legs up in some cuffs that would help with circulation and prevent blood clots. NIGHT TIME: It's impossible to sleep. Nurses and techs are in your room all night checking on you. MORNING: I went for my swallow test where they give you shots of dye and take X-rays to make sure there are no leaks. 11:00 food: My lunch arrived. It consisted of a bombpop, broth, crystal light lemonade, Jello, and an Optifast shake. I took it very slow and ate the lunch over 2 hours. I took very small sips. 1:30 ROUNDS: Dr. Minkin made his rounds and told me everything went great with surgery. He answered any more questions I had and gave me verbal post-op instructions. He then released me. 3:00 DISCHARGE: The nurse came by with my discharge paperwork and instructions. TIPS:
Walk as much as you can. That's the only way to get rid of the gas. It's almost impossible to fart (odd, I know) so I mainly burped a lot. The gas is no joke! Don't forget to take something to wear under your gown the next day (sweats/undies) to make you more comfortable while cruising the halls. I gained a couple of pounds while in the hospital. I think it was from all the fluids being pumped into me. Overall, I had a GREAT EXPERIENCE! I am so proud of myself for taking this step to improve my health and life. I am also so proud of all of you for making this choice too!

Thank you everyone for the feed back, I will be thinking about all this as I am going in for surgery tomorrow. I have decided to go ahead and follow through with the surgery seeing how I feel so much better being 44 lbs lighter already.... Not going to lie, I am scared as hell and still feel extremely guilty, but I am hoping those feelings will fade away after I wake up in recovery tomorrow afternoon!

Surgery is Monday morning for me and I have been on Clear Liquids and Meal Replacement shakes since the 19th. I have lost 20lbs since then... It Works!! I had two little mini meltdowns... One day I wanted a freshly made biscuit my mother made and the other she came home with leftover shrimp and french fries... so I just went to bed lol.. Im surprised how well I have handled it. Hopefully that translates to an easy recovery and beyond... you can do it!!

I have been pretty fortunate that the pre-op liquid diet has kept me satisfied. chicken broth is my new best friend. I make most my own drinks and like experimenting. The light muscle milk vanilla is my favorite as far as store bought. It only has 15 grams of protein... But you can have 2 for one meal and it meets my requirements from my surgeon. I drink tons of Water so I won't have any back up. (Wink wink).
