  1. I know my plan doesn't allow corn kernels or popcorn for at least the first year.
  2. @@chellede I think we may be experiencing twings and things for awhile. We will be healing for some time. Can you call the office and just mention it? Better safe then sorry. Besides sleevie wonder my other favorite that I heard was frankentummy!
  3. Doing the happy dance because my bras are too big!!! Also would like to share a word of warning.... Remember that protein tubes are plastic so you should not place them on the hot stove. In my excitement to make my broth and protein powder, that is exactly what I did today. Luckily, I was able to scrap off all the melted plastic. But burnt protein may be just as awful smelling as it is in the shakes. Its's a very vsg life.....
  4. @@chellede can you pinpoint if it is when you are swallowing or when the food hits "sleeve wonder"?

    New to fifties group

@@mjmboston we met over on the Octobers but welcome to this wonderful supportive group. I had a very high BMI and that along with my age made me very nervous. But with the encouragement of this group and the battery of tests and a quote from Dr. Oz I gained strength. Dr. Oz compared being over 50 with a BMI over 50 as being given a solid Cancer diagnosis. You would take steps to address that and that it is what this surgery is doing....helping to save your life. I was scared, and rightly so,it's major surgery. Surgery was a breeze. Recovery, well protein shakes in particular has been the most difficult part. I've had some complications with potassium and fluid levels which lead to good and bad days. But there's always the positive weight loss! Good luck on your journey!
  6. @@mjmboston I'm just I'm just 11 days out from surgery but I found a couple of things very helpful...a back scratcher! The pain meds made me very itching. A grabber contraption, it was difficult to bend over and pick something up. A sobukawa, not sure of spelling I think it's also called a buckwheat pillow, i use it nest to my belly. Unjury unflavored protein. Chewy bite calcium from Bariatric Advantage in all the flavors, I take 2 with each meal so an assortment is wonderful. Lots of tissues and toilet paper stored with in reach. Lip balm. And if you have or are thinking about it...a recliner and or and adjustable bed have been wonderful. Hope this suggestions are somewhat helpful. Great surgery date! It's my wedding anniversary. Also I found crystal light and chicken broth wonderful.
  7. I left a message with the office and a nurse called back this afternoon and apologized and said that they made a mistake and spoke to me for awhile. I' m sure if I needed to she would have made an appointment but since I will be seeing my primary on Mon I figure things should be fine. On another note... Rough day. I could only get in a very small amount of my Protein shake and I was done. My stomach hurt and just had no appetite for it. Although I was able to get my Water and Gatorade and Vitamins in. Is easing into the shakes to be expected?
  8. Had my one week post op yesterday and my dr. Didn't look at my incisions. Later, after already having left the office, I felt uncomfortable with the fact that he didn't physically examine me. I know he knows what he's doing but.... He did ask how I felt and I said great, getting stronger everyday. Does anyone think it's odd? What was your post op like?
  9. @@Meonthelist what about adding some protein powder plain or chicken soup flavored to your soup or to mashed potatoes etc. from what I gather amounts and preferences vary greatly and they just want you to try.. Don't be discouraged if you're not into a wide variety of mush. I just got off the phone with my NUT because I was concerned that I never had any problem with taking my liquids and vitamins, I thought it was too easy. Lol. She said it's fine. You sound like you're doing great! Two pounds a week!!!
  10. Another suggestion for those getting or recently sleeved my drs rule of thumb if you haven't gotten a flu shot yet , to wait until 2 weeks after surgery to get one.
  11. Hi everyone just wanted to share a "good thing" before I went in for surgery I ordered a Medical ID bracelet from Lauren's Hope. Mine is a silver I'd with black velvet and pearls and silver. lH bracelets are interchangeable with the ID plate. My ID is imprinted with my name, gastric sleeve, VSG, no blind NG tubes and my ICE phone number. They have a huge assortment and many that don't scream medical iD. I think they may also have necklaces. I hope we never need them but our bodies have changed and this could be a good thing to have.
  12. Omg the dog food smells so good! (One week what? Post OP!) went to one week post op and only lost one pound since surgery but I'm not too concerned since I had some problems after surgery with swelling and then the medicine they used to reduce the swelling caused my potassium to be nonexistent which caused symptoms that mimic blood clots..which led to some extra time in the hospital. Anyway, on a really much brighter note, apparently I had a huge hernia and by just repairing that I have so much more energy and can breathe so much better. Without sleeve surgery would any dr have picked it up? Loving my sleeve. Week 1. Ps my fears about going under did not include apparently my need to tell the anesthiologist how much I loved him, repeatedly over and over until I passed out. Lol pa I love you guys too for being so suportive! Xo
  13. Thank you all soooooo much for the good wishes and encouragement. Wishing every one of you good, good health. Your support means so much to me. I'll say good night as I start my journey to onederland. And just to reciprocate for the one liner smiles.... The past, present and future walked into a bar.....Man, it was tense

    New to fifties group

Hey fellow 50's...just got my surgery time for tomorrow. I need to be there at 7:30 for surgery between 9:30 and 10. Extremely nervous. Can't seem to calm myself. Very focused on complications during and after. Although I've had several "big surgeries" I don't know why this one seems to unsettle me the most. Maybe older and wiser or maybe too much internet...didn't have internet so easily during previous surgeries. So maybe that's it...dinosaur syndrome or rather ignorance was bliss. Anyway, I know realistically that not doing this is just as risky if not more so. So I will go with my right foot forward and leap into this new frontier of sleevedom.
  17. Okay just got my times...I have to be at the hospital tomorrow morning at 7:30 am and surgery should be between 9:30 and 10. I am sooooo nervous. I'm worried that since my BMI is over 50 I will have complications.... I've had many surgeries and have never been this nervous. Amazingly though, the one person in my life that I thought would be the least supportive has stepped up and has been amazing. I hate to ask but I have 2 requests...can I get some words of encouragement and maybe a funny one liner for a smile. Sorry that I'm rambling...nerves.
  18. @@chellede the world according to eggface blog is from August 27,2007 and is labeled puréed foods. Also may I recommend , bake off some peeled and chopped onions potato and peeled Apple with garlic season, onion powder etc when everything is nice and soft throw in blender with some pumpkin purée and some water. Yummy. Creamy with no dairy. May toss some olive oil in while baking potato etc.
  19. Also glycerin suppositories may help.
  20. My surgeon recommends aloe Vera juice.
  21. @@chellede you might want to check out a blog called the world according to eggface. She has lots of recipes and I hear she's famous for her ricotta bake.
