Stalls and how to deal with them...

Thank you so much!! I'm going to stay away from that scale except for once a week. I feel so much better after reading your post!!

Stalls and how to deal with them...

Hi Rach8610 - I'm kind of feeling the same as you! I am 4 weeks post-op today, and 23 lbs down, but the scale hasn't moved for several days. It's sort of freaking me out! I don't want to believe this is where it starts getting harder already! I'm following your thread and hoping some veterans will give us some words of wisdom!

@@Vsglady - Good Luck tomorrow with your surgery! You won't be sorry....after the first few days anyway! Just take big, deep breaths and think about how nice you're going to look a year or two from now! And stop looking on the internet!!!! LoL!!

    Preop diet and working

@@jes76 - I think you're going to do great! Just treat yourself like you'd treat one of your patients (a GOOD patient) and give yourself time to adjust to each phase. Good luck on Thursday and let us know how you're doing after surgery!
  5. I soooo agree with you!! My family doctor described my parents as 4 x 4's and said I was genetically on the losing side of weight loss. Oh well, not anymore!! And to hell with the folks that think this is the "easy way out" - they don't know anything! We're all working hard at getting healthier every day! Yes, the clothes and being able to look at myself in the mirror andin pictures will be awesome, but not having heart disease and diabetes is the best reward!!
  6. Good for you!! I decided that I've lived the last 50 years for my family, so the next 50 is for me!!

@@CowgirlJane - you're never too old. My late mother-in-law eloped at 83!!! Glad you had fun on your date!

    Shopping List Needed

I did stock up on Protein drinks. I'm 3 weeks post-op and still drink 2 per day, however, last night I picked up the variety pack of Protein Bars by Premier (same brand of Protein Drink I use) and each bar is also 30 grams. I am just starting to add foods other than yogurt and cottage cheese. Today I'm having a little egg salad (homemade, 2 mashed hard boiled eggs and about 1 tbls light mayo). I still find it easier to drink than eat, so it takes awhile to eat anything. I also stocked up on chicken broth (in cube form or canned), sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. All go towards your 64 oz of Water as well, so they're good to keep on hand. Oh, and don't forget caffeine free herbal tea if you're a tea drinker.
  11. I used the alarm feature on my phone. Set it for every 15 minutes. Used it for about a week and it drove me crazy, so now I basically do the same thing Rogofulm does. Fill up the glass in the a.m., another in the afternoon and one or two more at home. Luckily, I've always been a big Water drinker, so my biggest issue is getting in the Protein drinks and trying to actually eat something 3 times a day.

    Jeans or a dress?

I say wear whatever you're most comfortable in. You're going to look good either way. If you want to wear a dress, go for it! Depending on the type of dancing, you can dress down the dress with lower heels or flats, or dress up the jeans with heels and jewelry.

@@LainieG - keeping a good thought for you! Keep us posted.
  14. Hang in there everyone. That is arguably the worst part of the whole process! I was lucky and had a 7:30 a.m. surgery, but you're all right - go to bed as early as possible!! After tomorrow it will be behind you and you can start your new life!! Good luck to all of you!!
  15. I just told my friend my goal is to put on a pair of boots and zip them up over my skinny calves!!

    Cravings!

I'm almost 3 weeks post surgery and can say that with my two protein drinks a day and all the water, I really don't "crave" anything at this point. Don't get me wrong, food smells delish, but I just don't have the overwhelming urge to eat it. Went to dinner with friends last night and had grilled salmon - I ate 4 small bites of that and 4 small bites of retried beans (I was at a Mexican restaurant) and that was so filling. I was actually afraid I wasn't going to be able to keep it down.

    Am I alone here?

I was sleeved almost 3 weeks ago on 9/23/2014. I was mildly nervous just because it is major surgery but I'm so happy now!! I've already dropped 20 lbs and have so much more energy. You'll be so happy after - keep the faith!!

    Protein Drinks

    Where do we find this??
  20. @@bikrchk, thank you, thank you, thank you! This is exactly what I've been looking for. I appreciate that you tell it like it is, and that it's normal for me to eat two spoonfuls of yogurt and be full! LoL!
  21. So I'm here to throw my 2 cents in, since I'm pretty new to the process - 2 weeks post surgery. I was in the hospital overnight, and while a bit nauseous, was able to get down Water and a bit of diluted apple juice. The first couple of days home I was so tired I slept most of the day and night. I started on the Protein drink (Pure Protein) and although it took a couple of hours to drink one, I managed to get in two per day. Now I can finish one in about an hour. Progress!!! I did have some cream of chicken Soup the other night, which was delish. I had just a bit of yogurt the other day, and some cottage cheese yesterday. You really think you're going to be able to eat a small container full, but believe me, you can't! I have tried to eat more than a couple of spoonfuls and you feel it right in your throat. If you don't stop, then you're going to be throwing up and that hurts worse! The "good" thing about all that is that you're really not hungry, so the two or three spoonfuls is actually good. You get the taste of whatever it is you're eating, and it really is enough to satisfy. Shoot, it even takes me 10-15 minutes to eat sugar free Jello cup! I'm so content with the two Protein shakes and tons of water a day, that I'm not really even motivated to "eat" other foods, but know that I need to at some point. That to me is the scariest part of this at this point.

This is great info. I just got cleared for soft food, cream of wheat, yogurt, cottage cheese, so you're all preparing me for the future. Thanks!!

Congratulations! It's exciting, and you're right, your age and health should have you pulling right through it!

    3 month follow up WIN

@zanes mom - I applaud your commitment to yourself and your family. I lost my husband 2 1/2 years ago to cancer, and I can commiserate with the eating and mental stability issues. Not withstanding the health issues that run in my family, I simply feel that the last several years I have existed to support my family, so the next several are to take care of me and this surgery is the first step in that. God Bless you and enjoy every minute of your victories!! ????????

Participate in fun activities - Check!!!!! I have to tell you - I actually climbed into a military Humvee today and was able to get up on the roof through the gunners opening! It was so fun!!!!
