dede0314 replied to clerkstar841998's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do if I have too much sugar. I think everyone is different and responds differently. Its hard to say if you would react this way or have dumping if you have the sleeve but there is a chance. -

Will I be able to do this
dede0314 replied to kat2312's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought it wouldn't work for me either. You just have to remember that it requires a lifestyle change. It is something that you have to get used to and adjust to. I remember The first couple weeks after surgery I would have nightmares about eating pizza and other bad stuff. -
I think I discovered my first slider food...

Try a different type of lettuce. Maybe romaine. I really can't tolerate lettuce after surgery. It makes me feel really bloated so I try to avoid it. -

Oh...I did everything at the same hospital so the surgeon office had all my records. No one gave me any forms. But I guess if you go to different places you can just ask for your medical records and give to surgeon office so they can send with the rest of your paperwork to insurance company.

Confession time! ( exercise related)

Try to find exercises you can do at home. I worked out with a trainer for the first time yesterday and every exercise I did I could do at home with no machine. -
I finally hit the 100's!

Congrats!! -
See if they can email the requirements to you or if they have it somewhere online. For example I have Aetna, I called and asked for their requirements they told me to go to their site and search 0157 they have a bulletin online that states all the requirements. Maybe UHC has something similar.
-
Is there anything online that has their qualifications listed? Does it say you need a comorbidity if your BMI is 40 or above. My sister has UHC. I know the plans are different but she was approved with no health issues just a BMI over 40. I would investigate and get all the info I could. I would also still go through with the peer to peer review.
-
I know it's upsetting. I fought with my insurance company for months and went all the way through the appeals to an external review. Don't give up, that's what they want. If you meet the qualifications, I'm sure you will get approved.
-
It basically your doctor talks to someone from the insurance company to explain why the surgery is necessary. This can get your denial overturned. I would do this first before doing an appeal.
-
Can your doctor do a peer to peer review? If not I would call UHC and get information about their appeal process.

Insurance will not cover

I am in Chicago. I was looking at self-pay because I initially got denied by my insurance. The places I called were pretty expensive. -

How long did you sleep on your back?
dede0314 replied to SEVENTYSIXGIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I did like after a little less than two weeks but it was actually by mistake. I was scared to sleep on my stomach so I was still sleeping on my back but when I woke up I was on my stomach lol. I was fine and didn't have any pain.
