This was the easiest thing besides the fact that almost killed my nerves! But my surgery is officially November 10th!!
-
I called UHC this afternoon and they stated that I my benefits have been confirmed and I am approved!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!! I am so excited and nervous! One major hurdle has been over come, now I am off to the scheduling stage.
How long did it take you to get an answer? Congratulations!

I'm in the same boat! Was sent in on Friday last week and the nerves have set in!
-
I wouldn't quite call it a second thought...but I did (and do!) have some nervousness about it. But I'm thinking it's fear of failure, fear of the unknown, all that. I've been fat for so long...I don't know who the skinny girl is anymore. Weird, huh?
I know what you're talking about- I wonder sometimes about how things will be when I'm thinner

How aggravating- I called the insurance company and they said the doctors office has no sent anything in. I called the doctors office and had it out with the women there because they were supposed to submit it last week so now the office manager is going to do it tomorrow. How lovely!

The biggest problem is different plans have different requirements. I have uhc choice plan and I have to go through optum. They assigned me a case manager. My requirements are 6 months of a supervised diet and a psych eval as well as a bmi of 40 or greater.
Uhc had no problem emailing me all the information you may wanna call back and speak to a manager or someone who is able to email or mail you something.

Yeah I'm going to call first thing Monday and ask about it.

Mine was really quick. My stuff was sent to the insurance this past Monday and I got a call yesterday saying I was approved. My surgery date is 11/12. I'm so nervous but excited at the same time. Hope you hear something soon.
I called my insurance company today and they still haven't sent in the information so they told me to call them next week to check again. How irritating.
-
I called my insurance first to make sure I was in full understanding. My doctors office was so impressed because apparently no one does that.
My personal worry is that during my 6 months I gained like 20 pounds consistently. I started off lighter than am now so I don't know if they're going to make me redo the 6 months for my currently weight.

I have pcos I'm not sure if that is one.

I'm very interested in support, I just started this journey and don't really have many people to rely on. My fiancé and aunt are the only people who know because I just feel that it is very personal and I don't want anyone judging me when I'm trying to better myself.

That's awesome. I'm a little afraid I won't get approved my bmi only became over 40 within the past 3 months and my weight has just sky rocked over my 6 month supervised diet. I'm trying to keep my fingers crossed that they approve me.I was approved in 5 days...definitely a surprise!
-
Wow seems very quick! They told me 2-3 weeks but I think that's a standard time they tell people though.
-
I completely all of my pre-op insurance requirements today and the women at the doctors office said she was sending everything in around 330 today. Which means now we wait to hear back! Gosh the waiting may kill me- how's everyone else doing? Anyone in the same boat?
Also how long did it take you to hear back from the insurance company?
-
How long did you say you have been waiting?

I'm right there with you- I've finished everything but one more month of weigh in. My insurance will use weight watchers as a 6 month diet so October is my last month. I'm praying they approve me but I'm terrified they won't. I'm worrying they could use any excuse! So nervous

Are they approving you as a revision? I'm only wondering because I like you have uhc choice plan. So I'm just trying to see what other people's experiences are.

I created a new/private Instagram to document everything going on through this journey. I'm hoping to gain some friends through it. Here is a little about me: I'm 23 years old. I live in NJ and I'm a senior in college. I have a 10 month old daughter and I'm engaged to the absolute love of my life of 5 years. My instagram name is megs_vsg

I started the process to get the gastric sleeve last week, the doctors office is hoping that I will be able to use my previous weight watchers as a means of the 6 month diet. The insurance company does take weight watchers it's just a matter of if they would allow the past few months or if they want me to start off from this point on. Regardless, I have my psych eval on Thursday and my nutrition eval next Thursday. They even scheduled me for a "tentative" surgery date to be November 10th.
Due to personal reasons I'm not really telling anyone what I am doing except my fiance, my aunt, and a very good friend of mine. So because of my decision to not tell anyone just yet I feel like I need a buddy to help me through all of this. My fiance is no help because well he's NEVER had a weight problem in fact most of his life he was considered under weight for his height.
Hopefully there is someone out there who wants a new friend!

Thank you everyone I'm waiting on a call back for my case manager. I should have asked that but I had so many other questions that I forgot.

I just started the process of going for the Gastric Sleeve surgery. I was told by my insurance company that I need to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet. Which I completely was expecting because of what other people have told me. I'm wondering because I am only like 10 pounds into the "morbid obese" category if I go under that and my BMI goes under the 40 that is required can I still be approved? Or will the deny me based on my bmi being lower.
Approved!

Thank you! I was surprised it was easy to be honest.
