Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015
June 30th here. I thought I was down 20-21 lbs as of Tuesday but I weighed myself this morning and I am up 2lbs. That sounds impossible right? I've been eating 600-700 per day. Averaging 60gms of protein…. I have a few more weeks before I can do high impact expertise but I can do everything else starting now.

2 surgeries?
So my doctor only does them in 2 parts for the following reasons: 1) you are twice as likely to get a leak in a one step procedure (although risk is still low) and 2) you are more likely to get a larger sleeve with a pouch where the band is (although you might still get one even with 2-step procedure). Anyway I had mine in 2 steps and was not happy to have 2 surgeries but in retrospect it was nice to recover from the band removal before getting the sleeve. Each were difficult for their own separate reasons but I think that the band removal was more painful than the sleeve.

Slider foods
Are poached eggs sliders? I was able to eat 2 today without yoke since it slid out and I'm 3 weeks out.

Food Dreams After Surgery
It felt almost supernatural. While I was recovering I was like "how can I be having these bizarre vivid food images in my head"?

3 week update for those thinking about a revision
So I had my surgery on 6/30. I was in the hospital for 2 days. The surgery pain was much easier than the band or the band removal (mine was removed in April). I lost about 12lb by one week. Weirdly I lost the Water weight from the surgery more quickly than with my band removal. At 3 weeks out now I am down 19-20lbs. My assessment is that this surgery is easier than the band. With the band my stomach was more swollen and I had more trouble with liquids for longer. With this surgery I really have had no problems sipping away and making my Fluid goals. The only thing that has been hard is that I have had no appetite and experienced no thirst even when I need to drink so I need to remind myself. I did purees with zero problems measuring my food, eating slowly just like with the band. Today is my first day of solids. I packed 4oz of tuna salad and 4 whole wheat crackers for lunch in my cooler bag. I ate maybe 2 1/2 ozs of tuna salad and 3 crackers about 2 hours ago and feel very full now - almost don't want to drink. To describe the full-feeling it is somewhat similar to the feeling of full with the band in that I feel full up to my esophagus - kind of like a small lump in my throat but it doesn't feel painful or like I need to throw up like it did with the band - also my chest/stomach just feels full.. hard to explain. I keep getting worried when I see posts on other parts of this site about people struggling so much to drink and eat and I haven't had this experience. Is my sleeve smaller? Is my anatomy different post-banding? This is what I like to think: after 8 years with the band I have learned portion control and how to chew, sip and eat in a bariatric-friendly way. I really hope this is true! Sorry for the long post but when I was leading up to surgery I was really looking for answers to some of these questions. Remember I am soooo new so take it with a grain of salt!

Why can't I update my weight?
Maybe I am going to the wrong place? Not very tech savvy but I go to the place where it says update weight and (we have lost a zillion lbs) and I can't put my cursor or delete my old weight.

Food Dreams After Surgery
I can't be the only one who had this experience. In the recovery room and during my 2 day stay in the hospital EVERY time I drifted off to sleep I would have images of food in my head. It was so weird. I have never had anything like that before and since I left the hospital it hasn't happened. I wasn't hungry at all and was even nauseas so I am guessing it has something to do with my stomach hormones? Or maybe my body was saying farewell to food. anyone else?

Gained most of my weight back
Having lost 100% of my weight with the lap band and then gaining it ALL back very quickly with my pregnancies and lap band failure I know that it is true that we will be on a diet and battling obesity forever. We just cannot relate to food like other people. It is a huge bummer but everyone has something that they have to battle in life and this is it for us. good luck.

When your Nutritionist and Surgeon tell you different things
This sounds weird. I would talk to nut again - they shouldn't be giving conflicting information. I was able to do full liquids in the hospital and soft foods a week later and I have lost almost 20lbs.

Why can't I update my weight?
Am I doing something wrong. Why can't I update my progress on my ticker? One of the true highlights of my week!

Band to Sleeve lose more slowly?
I lost very quickly for a band patient. I was down 110 lbs in a year. I am not sure how it will go this time but 3 weeks out I have already lost more than I had with the band at the same point. Just a few lbs but still more!

3 week stall :(
I get that. I don't mind a stall. It is all good. I am wearing a dress I haven't worn since last summer today My point was that I understand how frustrating it is to go through your first stall because you have the added fear that the surgery won't work for you!

What does it feel like to have the sleeve v. band?
I have a similar story. Babies not virus screwed with my band. If it is any comfort to you I am 3 weeks out today and I am down 20lbs since the 2 day pre-op liquid diet and 16lbs since the morning of surgery. I am pleased with this but hope it will continue! I do feel like my experience for better or worse is different than the people who didn't have a revision. I don't seem to have suffered the same swollen stomach as other patients for the first few weeks. After a couple of days liquids were not a problem for me nor were purees. As of today I am able to integrate new foods in and so far nothing has been problematic. I do not know if this is because I am a revision patient or if I know how to chew, take small bites and small sips because my band was very tight for a long time. Good luck in September!

3 week stall :(
Hi All, So for months I have been reading all of the posts on this board, rolling my eyes at the many three-week stall posts. I am 3 weeks tomorrow and I only lost about 1lb since last tuesday. I am anticipating that I won't lose much this week after being about 19lbs down since surgery! I just wanted to put out there that I am sympathetic to the stall thing. It is really hard especially the first time - you fear the weight loss will never pick up again. Funny, I don't remember this happening with the lap band for me in 2007...

Labor Day Challenge!
239.5. I think I'm up for 3 week stall. Down about 19-20 lbs in 3 weeks!

Fat confessionals
I'm similar! Just sleeved 3 weeks ago and down about 18-19lbs. I also lost over 100lbs with the band and can't sit to pull out that clothing!

Full with band vs full with sleeve.
I ate 4 ozs of puréed chili tonight and my chest and throat hurt. Is that the restriction?
-
Throat after eating
Maybe dumb question but my throat hurts periodically after eating. Is that the restriction? I'm 2 weeks out on puree. I are 4 ozs of very watery purred chili and my throat had hurt for hours. Not like a sore throat but more like but like it's bruised.

Labor Day Challenge!
I update it =)You give your weights each week, and I usually have it done on Monday evening and then again on Wednesday for those I missed. Sorry I didn't understand! 243 Monday!

Can't wait! Good luck sounds like things are going well!

Full with band vs full with sleeve.
Me too! I'm down about 17lbs from my 2 day clear liquid diet. I can't help but worrying though since it has been so easy compared to the band. I keep wondering if I'll have adequate restriction as a revision patient. What does restriction feel like to you? I feel restriction finally...with sleeve. I never did with the band. This was the best decision ever! You may be worried because this feeling is all new...the band never did the job...like sleeve. You will have true restriction when u move to real foods...believe me! I can eat a couple ounces at a time...then I'm full abd I'm never hungry between my meals! That's helpful. Right now I can eat 3-4 oz of puréed and feel satisfied and full for long periods of time. In fact I don't really ever feel hungry I'm just wondering what the actual restriction feels like! Like what if I ate 5 ozs?! Guessing I don't want to find out but with the band we know what would happen

How Much Weight Did Your Surgeon Say You'd Lose at 6 Months?
My surgeon said I'd lose about 70lbs overall probably within 2 years. I have about 100 to lose. He said this when I asked and didn't offer this or set it as an expectation.
