  1. When I got my band 8 years ago it was rny or band. I was planning to have kids so the decision was easy. If I were making the decision now I would choose the sleeve.
  2. @@SWEETTEA would be surprised if someone else hasn't had that same fear about gaining weight back i do weigh daily worked for me (past tense) i would weigh and smile at the scale about 7 weeks ago # started to creep up i continued to weigh daily figuring that would help my accountability but, i gained a lb, gained a lb again and............... before i knew it, i was 8.3 lbs over goal!!! "forgot" to weigh every day, because i knew i was gaining i was ashamed and upset finally got back on the shtict and have lost 4.9 lbs!!! i'm standing here naked to the world with my confession kathy Good for you getting it back. Whenever I know I'm gaining I "forget" to weigh. Meant 100lbs for me after losing it all with band
  3. I like to weigh myself every day. It motivates me. Also when I weighed less frequently I did more justifying "I can eat this because I have 5 more days to eat right before I weigh in".. I don't think there is a right answer though.
  4. This is about how it is working for me. I'm really enjoying the journey this time. I am a revision patient. I'm enjoying planning healthy meals and cooking more thoughtfully for my young kids. With my band I wasn't eating healthily and constantly worrying about needing an adjustment. I lost about 19 my first month and this month will probably be around 8. I need to pick up the exercise when I get back home in September. That usually slightly increases my rate of loss but really it's the food.
  5. I'm less than 2 months out and I eat out all the time. I order a lean protein and/or share with my husband. I actually love it more now because I don't feel guilty about over eating. I just finished a dinner which was about 2-3 ozs of grilled steak, sautéed zucchini (2 ozs) I am down 27 lbs since June 30th.

I Don't Know What to Eat! Help!

A piece of whole wheat bread has 14carbs. A half cup of refried beans has 12. Not a huge difference. Beans are obviously better for the protein but nothing awful is going to happen from consuming a slice of bread. The carb monster doesn't exist.
  7. So I didn't have an exact stall but I had almost 3 weeks of very small losses (like less than a pound) starting at about 4 weeks out. Last week I lost 1 1/2 lbs but since last week I lost 3lbs! 27 1/2 lbs in 7 1/2 weeks is not bad for a revision patient! I go away tomorrow until labor day WITHOUT my scale (only my food scale) and I hope for a big number when I get back!

    Stall Over?!?!

I'm not sure how far out you are but I was 2-3 weeks late and then when I did get it I lost about 3lbs the same week.

    Stall Over?!?!

Maybe this is why it is best to look at monthly losses!
  10. I completely know how you feel. After my band was removed I was starving and gained up to my pre band weight. If it helps you at all I've lost 27lbs at 7 weeks after my sleeve. The sleeve is much better. Never stuck. Just full with much less.

    GERD a problem for anyone?

This was me. Gerd gone after hernia repair.

    Barret's and the sleeve

I had gerd for many years and was on a strong dose of nexium for several years. I had a band removed and a sleeve and hernia repair in June and o have had no gerd symptoms.
  13. If you need the band removed get another procedure. I was shocked at how hungry I was and quickly I gained weight in the 2 or so months after band was removed and before I had my sleeve. 8 years later I thought my band wasn't working at all but my hunger returned in full force.

    Tummy tuck before sleeve

Yeah, I regained 80 pounds after my tummy tuck and my stomach stayed flat through it all. It looks amazing now that I'm down to 12 pounds less than when I had the tummy tuck in the first place. If you look at the before pics in my gallery, you can see how flat my stomach was even when I was back up to 240+ pounds. You and I have very similar height, starting weight and goals - also the tummy tuck! You have done great - hope I will do similar.
  15. As a revision patient who gained the weight back I say the fear is good!!!
  16. As of this morning I am down exactly 26lbs at 7 weeks. This includes a 2-3 week stall after losing 17lbs the first 3 weeks. It's not as fast as some but I'm pleased. I'm averaging 1 1/2 to 2lbs these past few weeks which should bring me to my goal well before my 1 year. Hopefully before my 42nd birthday in April but honestly no rush. I'm trying to enjoy this after stressing so much on my rapid way back up these past few years.
  17. Did anyone else experience this? I got my period 4 days after surgery as expected. I should have gotten it again over a week ago. I'm not pregnant but have been bloated and crampy. Also am. I retaining water? I feel like I am.
  18. Honestly? The band surgery was much harder for me. This was a piece of cake and the food progression no big deal.

    Tummy tuck before sleeve

I had one in 2008. I had no problems with sleeve surgery. I also had to pregnancies. Bizarrely my abdomen is still very flat. My nurse in the hospital asked for the name of my surgeon
  20. You can do it. I did this for same reasons I have a 3 yr old and 5 yr old.
  21. I'm happy to share. I am no expert yet but I do think for many reasons the experience of former band patients is very different. I do think that a part of it is that we have experienced restriction in some cases for many years. I think that manifests a few ways, possibly we aren't "shocked" by eating 1/2-2/3 cup at a time. Possibly also our metabolisms are screwed at this point too.
  22. This is so true and so hard. I lost very quickly with the band. I was younger and single and it was easier. I'm trying to remind myself that slow losers and fast losers all end up at the same place!

    Labor Day Challenge!

234.8. Have a great week! I will be away until Labor Day and won't be able to weigh! I will have one final dramatic weigh in when I get back
  24. So I was the same as both of you. I went through the process of band removed in April and sleeved in June. I'll tell you honestly it isn't magic. I feel that I can eat more than some out there who claim to only eat a few bites. I don't know if this is the band, or the fact that I ate tiny portions for years and am used to eating slowly. I can tell you for sure that the ravenous insatiable hunger that I felt when my band removed is gone and I am satisfied with 3-6 ozs of food at almost 7 weeks out. I am down about 25lbs from surgery and am not exercising a ton yet. Hope that helps. My understanding with the sleeve is that you might lose slower but after 2 years it ends up being the same as bypass. I'm not sure if this is true but I think that bypass runs a greater risk of stretching the pouch than we do with our sleeve. The stretchy part of our stomach was removed. I really recommend seeing a surgeon who had done a lot of band to sleeve revisions. Hope this helps! Edited to say I plan on being a success check back here in a year .
