  1. The chances of a leak are still extremely low!

    Breakfast

Greek yogurt? I've been eating about 1/2 cup of egg whites with about 1/2 ounce of shredded cheese.

My little lap band monster is coming out!

I lost 100lbs and then regained. I'm not a failure and you are not. I converted to sleeve and it is MUCH better.

    Had an epiphany today!

Isn't that great! I love that I can say no now without feeling deprived. I'm in love with sugar free fudgsickles so I keep a box at home and remind myself I can have one when I get home for my treat.
  5. I was very nauseas for about 3 days. After that it came every once in a while like for 5 minutes after eating. Now it is rare (8 weeks out). Maybe once a week I'm slightly nauseas if I eat too quickly. I tended to get nauseas pre sleeve too.
  6. I was just like this. I'm about 8 weeks now and down about 30lbs. I can eat everything. Don't wait to feel "full" eat until you are satisfied. This has taken a mind adjustment for me too. I realize I can eat 2-3 oz of meat and some protein and some veg and be satisfied but not full. I am easily keeping my calories at 800 day and getting at least 60-80 grams of protein. That's all you need! No need for pain and discomfort to be successful!
  7. I did the same as you. Band out in April. Sleeved in June. Sounds like you have s great surgeon. Doing the surgery in 2 parts greatly reduces the chance of a leak. You will be fine! Good luck and come back with any questions.
  8. Love the idea of averaging it over a month.
  9. If you are anything like me you will be fine very soon. I was able to work after 3 weeks but I have a desk job and can work from hom. Also - I am 8 weeks out now and I think you will be fine to go on a cruise after 5 weeks. Good luck!
  10. I was on puréed a week out. I'm 8 weeks now and doing fine.
  11. I'm alone with my kids for a few days. I just tracked my calories for the day and i realize I am eating so much less without him around! Actually too low for today but I'll just add a protein snack later. I suffer from being influenced by other people's eating choices. This was an eye opener. Anyone else?

HELP - Suddenly scared of complications

Research your surgeon and follow his or her instructions. My surgeon said that 50% of leaks are caught while you are still in the hospital. The second half are generally caused by not following the rules (50% of the remaining complications). That leaves very good odds of being fine!
  13. Thanks that's good to know. I mean I know you have to try and not sit around and eat ice cream and gravy. You have to eat a lot of Protein. But after a while with the band, I have up and started eating crappy. Just don't want to carry that on to the sleeve. Probably going to drink protein shakes for a while even after the surgery when I'm able to. So I am very new. Just about 8 weeks out but I find that it is as effective as my band was when I had perfect restriction. Except now I can eat healthy fruits and vegetables and all kinds of Proteins without problems. I read on here about sleeve patients with all sorts of problems with eating and not getting in enough protein and vomiting. This hasn't been my experience even once. I don't know why that is but I guess I'm lucky.
  14. It's a major concern for me. I'm 8 weeks out and doing fine but the struggle is real. I lost all my weight with the band living alone and gained it back living with my husband. I don't blame him. There were many reasons for the regain but it sure is easier living alone! The kids food doesn't tempt me.
  15. It's nothing like the band. I share your fear though about eating around the sleeve. Constant vigilance is the key. I'm honestly saying that I am loving sleeve eating. I've had no intolerances. I would barely know I had surgery except in satisfied very quickly. I haven't really pushed it to "full" yet.
  16. I'm glad you picked your surgery and there is no wrong choice. However I don't think you should go into this expecting to reverse your bypass and I don't understand why the fact that your stomach was damaged by the band lead you to bypass. My decision to get the sleeve was based on the slower weight loss which requires me to make healthy food choices so that I don't become reliant on malabsorption which goes away in a year or so. Also the pouch from rny stretches much more easily than the sleeve because with the sleeve the greater curvature ( stretchy part) of your stomach is removed whereas with rny it is not. I personally know many people who have regained with rny for the reasons I stated. I just wonder why you keep posting this same thing over and over on the sleeve board if you are 100% confident in your decision. Best of luck!
  17. So true. My nutritionist said a correctly made sleeve doesn't stretch - it becomes slightly larger during the first year as you heal. Patients form bad habits 1) eating and drinking together, 2) slider foods, 3) grazing. This is very similar to regain or failure issues with band. What is true is that the loss of gherlin from the surgery lasts 6 months to 2 years only. Also, our bodies always will try to go back to the higher weight so that the above mentioned bad habits can be hard to resist.

    EGD biopsy?

I think everyone gets the h pylori test.

    Seafood!

I love eating shellfish. Shrimp is very high in protein and low in fat and calories. I am 7 weeks out and have had it weekly or more since 4 weeks.
  20. I am a daily weigher and I am on vacation with no scale! 2 more weeks. I had just finished a long long stall at 7 weeks when I went away and lost 3lbs in days and maybe more but no scale. I'm feeling anxious about my progress. I am hoping for a very good number when I get home. I've been eating 700-800 per day. Pretty low carb and 70-80 grams of Protein a day all from meat, fish or eggs. The best nsv is that a few months ago this vacation would have killed me alone with my 3 and 5 year old all day. We are having a great and active time!
  21. I don't eat every 2 hours. Breakfast lunch and dinner. Occasionally a snack.
  22. So I had my surgery on 6/30. I was in the hospital for 2 days. The surgery pain was much easier than the band or the band removal (mine was removed in April). I lost about 12lb by one week. Weirdly I lost the Water weight from the surgery more quickly than with my band removal. At 3 weeks out now I am down 19-20lbs. My assessment is that this surgery is easier than the band. With the band my stomach was more swollen and I had more trouble with liquids for longer. With this surgery I really have had no problems sipping away and making my Fluid goals. The only thing that has been hard is that I have had no appetite and experienced no thirst even when I need to drink so I need to remind myself. I did purees with zero problems measuring my food, eating slowly just like with the band. Today is my first day of solids. I packed 4oz of tuna salad and 4 whole wheat crackers for lunch in my cooler bag. I ate maybe 2 1/2 ozs of tuna salad and 3 crackers about 2 hours ago and feel very full now - almost don't want to drink. To describe the full-feeling it is somewhat similar to the feeling of full with the band in that I feel full up to my esophagus - kind of like a small lump in my throat but it doesn't feel painful or like I need to throw up like it did with the band - also my chest/stomach just feels full.. hard to explain. I keep getting worried when I see posts on other parts of this site about people struggling so much to drink and eat and I haven't had this experience. Is my sleeve smaller? Is my anatomy different post-banding? This is what I like to think: after 8 years with the band I have learned portion control and how to chew, sip and eat in a bariatric-friendly way. I really hope this is true! Sorry for the long post but when I was leading up to surgery I was really looking for answers to some of these questions. Remember I am soooo new so take it with a grain of salt!
  23. It's how the band should have worked. I'm satisfied with 3oz of protein and a couple of ounces of veggies.
  24. Due to the surgery but it's usually just a few days and nothing compared to having the port sewn in.
