    One week Post-op

Yay! Congratulations! I go next week. Wishing you the best.
  2. Has anyone found a decent tasting frozen yogurt or ice cream that is sugar free or low sugar? Does pink berry have anything that is nutritionally decent?

    Drains?

My surgeon never mentioned anything about drains… I never had them for my band surgery and never had them for my band removal. Does anyone know under what circumstnaces drains are used? Thank you!
  4. I just came from the clearance from my primary care physician (sleeve surgery in one week) - I hadn't seen him since the clearance for my band removal surgery in April. He made a big fuss about me gaining 10+ lb gain. I was feeling awful enough myself but the hunger was incredible. I've been cutting back and going low carb the past week but I am still up a lot. My surgeon said it was to be expected. Just feel awful now - next tuesday can't come fast enough.

    Feeling bad….

Thank you! I feel so dumb for being back here AGAIN being fat-shamed. Also I didn't get his point- I know I have a problem that is why I hot a lap band 8 years ago and lost 100lbs and maintained for a long time. That is why I'm having 85% of my stomach removed!!

    Food progression?

If it's the duration I should be ok! Only one week if liquids (one day clears the rest of the week full liquids) then into puréed and softs with phasing in solids after 3 weeks. Getting so nervous I hope I'm not over-posting!

    Food progression?

Did you have the sane surgeon for the band as the sleeve? I did and the post op diet progression is similar.
  8. Good luck! Keep us updated I'm 6/30 one week after you.
  9. I think it isn't a good thing except in early recovery phase. My nut says liquid calories is a major way people regain
  10. I keep going back and forth on if I should make this purchase and which one. I have an immersion blender but I am wondering if I will want something that blends up ice with my Protein drinks? My nutritionist wants me to steer clear of liquid calories after my recovery period so maybe I should just make do with an immersion blender? What do you guys think - surgery is 6/30 so in summer the ice might be nice...
  11. How soon after surgery did you actually feel like drinking coffee? I was told I could drink it right after surgery too and am a big lover of coffee now so I could see it being a good morning option for me with Protein Powder as a "creamer". My nut said that many people feel like their taste has changed for coffee for at least a while after surgery though. What was your experience?
  12. I don't think you need any study or anything about stretching the stomach drinking carbonation - it just doesn't make sense if you know anything about anatomy. I was told by my surgeon that it would be pretty uncomfortable and that is why he recommends against. What I can tell you is that drinking carbonated beverages with my band adjusted (tight) was uncomfortable and I didn't do it for that reason.

    Pregnant

Please let's not make this political. OP: I hope that you get the answer's you need from your surgeon and together with your family are able to make a healthy choice for you and your family - whatever that is. Good luck!

Not as much restriction as expected!

My understanding from talking to revision patients is that "restriction" feels very different with a sleeve. I am nervous about this too.. keep us updated.
  16. Not to be the voice of doom but many people need another surgery at some point. They really don't know how durable the sleeve is long term- meaning how it will do for people 10, 20, 30 years out or longer. There are teenagers and very young adults getting sleeved now. Some are like me and had a band failure but some are ALSO like me and when they lose all of their weight and maintain for several years "forget" that obesity is a life-long battle - I am guilty of this - my band failed but I also did. Never again!

    Unjury

Its pretty good. I tried it. I have chicken Soup, chocolate splendor vanilla, unflavored and the strawberry one all ready for post op. Maybe I went overboard. None of them are that good but this seems to be the best of the lot. The good news is that my surgeon's office had them tested and they are one of the very very few that accurately list their Protein - most significantly over state how much protein there is their product. Someone here recommended mixing the strawberry with greek yogurt post op to really get a good protein boost and flavor your greek yogurt at the same time.
  18. I can just use a food processor for puree right? I am thinking I will hold off. Aren't refried Beans ok without pureeing?
  19. I plan on doing this with fat free half and half. My nut said some people don't have a taste for coffee for a while.
  20. I was told neither of those things. I don't drink but I love coffee. I was told however that liquid calories in the form of coffee drinks and alcohol are one of the 4 ways regain happens (the others being grazing, drinking while eating and not eating protein). I am allowed to have coffee post op immediately but was told to keep it to 2 cups a day for 6 months which I think is doable! I had the band and was very successful for a years but I have to say that when you have restriction alcohol and liquid calories are very very tempting!
  21. Thank you! I am not so much upset but concerned. I have spoken with many many doctors about my options and researched this heavily for about 2 years since my band "failed". I also was very knowledgable about the band. My concern is that if someone who is not so confident has a similar encounter…. should I "report" her to someone? I hate getting people in trouble. Just to be clear - this was not a doctor, rn, pa or even an LPN this was an EKG tech.

    Funny WLS memes

Funny except the Dr. Phil one. I hate him.

    Out patient or not

It's an upper gi. You drink barium and they watch on an X-ray. You probably had them frequently if you had a band. My surgeon says they aren't doing them routinely anymore.

    Out patient or not

I'll have to stay 2 nights.
  25. I only need to do clear liquids for 2 days prior. Nothing else pre. How about you?
