Longhorn, I am really sorry to hear of your problems. Many years ago I was having very heavy periods and went to see my GYN. After a cursory exam he looked at me and said "Lose 100 lbs. and I'll do a hysterectomy" and walked out. I was hurt, stunned and embarrassed. I told my Internist and he sent me for a cone biopsy. It turns out I had endometrial cancer. I had a hysterectomy and 13 yrs. I am fine. I still can't believe that Dr. was willing to risk my life because he had a bias against overweight people. I complained to the head of the clinic and all he did was make the Dr. call and apologise. That was not what I wanted. Dr didn't even seem to understand what I was upset about. I'm sure things will go better for you And I will be thinking of you. I was banded 11-08-07 so we are a week apart! good luck. Love, Kathy

I had my surgery with Dr. Michael Snyder and he has support groups all over and welcomes patients from other Dr.s.The lakewood meeting is at: Lutheran Church of the Master 14099 W. When I was in my 40s I was having very long and heavy periods. I went to the ob-gyn and he gave me a very cursury exam and pronounced "Lose a hundred pounds and I'll do hysterectomy" and walked out of the room. I mentioned my problem to my Internist and he sent me to another Dr. who did a cone biopsy. The results were I had endometrial cancer and needed the hysterectomy.Because of the prejudice of the ob-gyn I could have died of cancer.Fortunately it was caught in time. I could not believe that Dr.s attitude just because I was fat! I also went to an orthopedic surgeon because I have 2 compressed discs in my back. Of course the first thing he said to me was lose weight and the second was how much did I weigh? I told him 250 lbs and he said "You look like you weigh more." On the way out of his office he made me get on the scale to see how much I weighed. He might as well have come out and called me a liar. Thats what he wanted to do but couldn't because I weighed 250. The attitudes of these Dr.s just point out why many overweight people don't want to go to the Dr. Tell us some of your Dr. horror stories. Love, Kathy Down 50 lbs. YEA!

I have been hyperthyroid for about 2 years. I have been in normal range on meds. for over a year. When I got my labs for my 3 month post op checkup my thyroid was off the chart as hyper again. My Thyroid Dr. wants to iodine radiate my thyroid and get rid of it. Does anyone know if this surgery can effect your thyroid? I don't believe it was a coincidence that my thyroid changed just at the time of surgery. My instinct is to tell him to shove it and up my meds and see what happens. What do you all think? Are all of you having the same problem as me? I've lost 42 lbs. and every bit is where I don't want it! All my fingers are skinny now, none of my rings fit, my butt is flat as a board, no more double chin-just a turkey wattle now. Also my shoes are too big! Of course my stomach seems to be as huge as ever. Is anyone else having this problem???:angry

I have lost 42 lbs.pre and post op. Surgery was 11-08. I have had 1 fill that I thought was going to kill me. It has settled down and I am more comfortable now. The best news is I am now a onester! I'm at 197. I never thought I'd make it. The holidays weren't bad at all. If I overate I got sick so that was a good incentive not to eat. Glad to hear you all did pretty good over the holidays.

Today I had my first fill at 7 weeks. Was really hungry before(I thought) and had decided to eat small portions of everything on Christmas. Ate a few deviled eggs and had diarrea. Waited a while and ate just a little green bean cassarole and same thing happened so I gave up and quit eating. When I went for my fill today I had lost 5 lbs. I am now at 202, almost to onederland. I guess my body has adjusted to less rich food. I hope the fill helps the hunger feelings. Or maybe it's just head hunger. Wish it would go away!! Good luck to all of you! Love, Kat

I was banded 11-08 and was doing good until week 5. Got a bad port site infection. Went to Dr. and they said it would get better. Came back a few says later because it was much worse. Now on super antibiotics and couldn't get 6week fill, and I am hungry! Good news it is getting better and I'm supposed to get my fill on day after Xmas. Ihave lost 37 Lbs. in 2&1/2 mos., pre and post op. Good luck to everybody else. Love, Kat

Iwas banded 6 weeks ago tomorrow. Last week I was having drainage and pus from my port incision. Just at the end of the scar. I went straight to the Dr. and they looked at it and said it would be ok. Today when I went for my first fill the problem had gotten much worse over the weekend. No fill and now I have to take 10 days worth of 875 mgs. Augmentin for the infection. I am terrified because both my parents had MRSA for months before they died and I was caring for them for 5 months. I'm so scared that is what this is. I need some reassuring words.

Bobbiedoll, You will love Dr. S, he is great. My son worked for him as a P.A and told me not to go to anyone else. Surgery went well, I'm 17 days out. No hungry pangs yet, just starting to eat mushies. At 2 week post op I had lost 14 lbs. 25 since I first saw Dr.. He will ask you to try to follow diet and try out protein shakes but only has you do 2 day pre-op liquid diet. Good luck with everything and let me know how its going! zippykat

I was banded 1 week ago on the 8th. Feeling better now but was supposed to eat some yogurt and cottage cheese yesterday and didn't get much down and it didn't set well at all. Now today I don't want to eat anything and didn't even want my shakes. My desire for anything is gone and no desire for anything. Has this happened to anyone? Do I just keep trying? Everybody talks about being hungry and I can't stomache the thought of anything!!!

Well, It's done and I am sore but glad it's over. Everything went OK but 2 of my holes are more like incisions. 2&3 inches long. Those really hurt. Hope to feel better soon. Good luck to all coming up surgeries.

tomorrow is the big day for me. Surgery at 9am. I'm getting nervous but can't wait. I'll be awake all night I know. That's OK, I have to get up at 4:30 am to get ready. Just wish it was 24 hrs. from now. Good luck to all going tomorrow!:clap2:

I live in Aurora and get banded 11-08-07. I'm so excited and time is dragging. I'm glad I found this website, it's great. I can't wait to start my new life. My Dr. is Michael Snyder at Rose Medical. He's great. I've lost 13 lbs pre-op. I'm 59 and scared because of my age. Think good thoughts for me!

I am self pay and my cost is about $15,000. Countrywide finance has lower interest loans for medical procedures. I will be paying $300 a month for 5 years. It's a lot of money but for 41 years I gave all to my family and now it is my turn. Most people pay more for their car payment and I think I'm worth more than that!
