  1. I'm not quite there yet to say if it makes a difference or not. I haven't been 'skinny' since my teens and then I really didn't pay attention. I will say that when I see someone who is heavy now I seem to think to myself "boy would a band do them good". I don't do it consciously it just kinda comes to me. Don't know if that makes me 'bad' for thinking that or any better than the skinny people out there??? I certainly don't mean it maliciously, I just know how much it helped me.

    Any thoughts?

  2. I did not go for the bypass because everyone I've seen that has had it looks so sickly and I didn't want my insides permanently changed! My mom had one and she throws up all the time and my aunt had to have her whole stomach removed and her intestines routed to her esophogus - so that wasn't even a option in my mind!

There is a girl that I worked with that had a bypass done 6mo after I had my band. To date she has lost alot more weight than I have and unfortunately people look at me like I should be like her. No matter how I try to explain that the weightloss with banding is slower (which is good), I think they think of me as a failure at times. Well - I don't work there anymore and I stopped by there last week because I was going to lunch with my friend. They haven't seen me since December and I had a good fill in October and have lost quite a bit! It was nice to hear the comments and make them eat their words from before! :Dancing_wub:

  3. I guess mine happened so fast I didn't have time to really think about it. My insurance was a piece of cake which surprises me because of all the problems I hear that people have with United Healthcare!

I got my approval quick - scheduled my surgery for like 3 weeks after the approval date. They called me on a Thursday and said they had a cancellation for Tuesday of the following week and did I want it. I figured no sense in prolonging it so I did it. After I said yes I kinda thought to myself "what did I do"? All worked out good and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Hang in there - all things happen for a reason!

  4. I hardly lost any weight until my 3rd fill Oct 07. That certainly did the trick! I have lost 9 lbs this week :purplebananna: alone and it's not cause I'm starving myself either! I'm holding my breath though cause I know I'll plateau here soon but I'm enjoying the ride while I can!

My goal is to be under 200 by the 4th of July and I think I have a darn good shot at it! This is the first goal I have ever set for myself other than my goal weight!

I think the band is an awesome tool but you have to have the fills or it isn't going to work!

    Good luck!

  5. Isn't it amazing how our parents think they help but they cause damage that takes years and years to get past? I have a daughter who is 16, she is a little overweight, but this kid can do physical activity that someone skinnier can't keep up with. She competed gymnastics, she's on a dance competition team, captain of the HS cheer squad, HS basketball, rides horses - you name it she does it. I put my kids in sports as soon as they were old enough to be in them. I didn't make them do something they didn't want to do, I let them choose so they enjoyed it. I made a point to start them out active in their lives because obesity runs in my family. I can't name one person on my dad or my mom's side of the family who are thin. I didn't want them to get teased in school and have something like that say with them the rest of their lives like I did. My son is 18, he's a bean pole no matter how much that boy eats!! I think when I had him he took all my motabilism with him! :purplebananna: I never would take food from them - if we all can't eat right then why should just one? God knows it wouldn't hurt any of us to eat better!

Well, that's my morning input - time to get my butt to work!

  6. I don't get to much of the "can you eat that" question but I do get compared quite often to two women that I work with that got bypasses. I didn't get a 'good' fill until 1Oct07, one that did the trick, so I have been losing very slow. I have lost more weight in the past 6mo than I have since I was banded due to my last fill. I'm hoping to be in "Onederland" by July!!!

  7. Been there done that but thank goodness I always made it to the restroom!

I have come up with a theory on sliming! When we first eat, since our pouches are so far up our body produces alot of saliva because it thinks it needs to to digest and get down what we are eating. It's so thick and there is so much of it it doesn't want to let the food though. The food sits on top of it and won't let it go down. I get it all up and I can eat fine from then on out. Don't know what everyone else's experience with it is but that's my thinking.

    Happy Friday!!!:)

  8. Mine is under my right boob right near the bottom of my ribs. They had to put it there since I carried all my weight in my rear-end and my hips and I have a very distinct waist line. I could feel it from day one but I don't think it's "ugly" per say. It does protrude a tad bit but since it's up so high I guess that's why it doesn't look bad.
