  1. I also got my surgery on the 26th and I'm sure hoping I'm not going to regret what I've done down the line. I had a lapband since 2006, it has to be removed because I had to have hernia repair and it wasn't safe to replace the band, hence the sleeve. I have had terrible reflux and feel all around like sh*t!! Hope this all goes away because I really can't undo what's been done.

  2. Ok - it's taken me FOREVER to try and figure out what this is about but this is the best explanation that I can find.

This is a usual problem with some people and is a problem that is similar to a muscular catch. The problem happens because of the muscles of the pharynx being pulled by the peristaltic action. In addition to this, the movement of the jaw muscles can also cause this problem. This means that you are probably opening your mouth too widely or that the muscles are causing a nerve to be depressed while they are in motion. Since there is a wide spectrum of causes that results in your condition, the problem could also be caused by an electrolyte imbalance in your body.

The region of the mouth that is affected in your case is called the palate or the roof of the mouth. This is an area that is comprised of some soft tissue called the torus palatinus and also of some bony structure above that. When we open our jaws in a yawning action (which is also when the mouth is opened at its widest) we sometimes experience a muscle spasm. This is caused by a muscle electrolyte imbalance. Our muscles are supplied with the impulse to move by electrical currents from the nerves. However, at the junction of the nerve and muscle and within the muscle, it is not the same type of electricity that controls movements. At the synaptic cleft of neurons, acetylcholine is released to trigger a release of sodium ions from sodium channel gateways. This also triggers the release of Calcium ions within muscles that causes contraction of muscle. This system also requires an off switch that comes from the entry of potassium ions into the sodium-potassium channels. When there is an inadequate amount of potassium in the body, the off switch is not activated and we get a continuous muscle contraction or spasm – literally, a short circuit.

To relieve this situation, it is best to have some potassium chloride solution that is usually available with all chemists. This is one of the vilest tasting solutions that you will ever come across so mix some of this in some honey before consuming it. The other way to ensure a good intake of potassium in the body is to consume potassium-rich foods. Citrus fruits like oranges contain a high amount of potassium as do bananas. Mostly all foods will contain this essential element but just to be sure, stick to having a lot of fruit juices.

  3. Please let me know if you find anything out. I have not gotten any answers other than maybe it's blocked saliva glands. Eat a Lemon Head or something sour and see if it hurts then.

I do find that it doesn't bother me when I eat Breakfast early at work but when I eat my first meal late on the weekends it's horrible!

    Good luck!

  4. Doer, you are absolutely correct. Honestly, I've been coming to the chat room for 2+ yrs now and there is only so much talk you can do for hours strictly on the band. We are always happy to change the subject and answer anyones question when they come in, all they have to do is ask!

  5. Hey Alex - I'm hoping this is a temporary glitch but chat is trying to make us download a new version of 'flashchat'. For the people who get into chat from work (80% of us) this probably isn't going to fly because we can't download to work computers. Any thoughts so I'm not freaked out that I won't be able to chat with my friends and ease my boredom by not turning to a bag of Doritos? LOL

    Thanks much!!

  6. Funny this topic should come up! I went into my closet to get my clothes out for work and the pole had come down from the weight of all my "clothes collection". Upon emptying out the closet and fixing the pole my husband asked when I was getting ride of all these clothes that were to big for me! He said (and he's right) that 75% of the shirts I have are so big they fall off my shoulders and show my bra straps! Of course I told him I would but didn't have the time right at that moment. Guess this will be my weekend project!

I don't like taking clothes to the Goodwill because they sell them, I think I'll bring them down to the shelter and see if they can use them.

Have to save money to replentish my closet so it won't look so empty! :tt2:

  7. The worst for me was 4th through 8th grade! If I ever ran across those boys again I'd slap the shit outta them! It was always the same 3-4 boys (went to a very small school), bet they are all fat and bald by now! Serves um right! :tt1:

Thank goodness I slimmed out in HS (135lbs) - got married and had kids, the rest is band history!!

  8. Ok....what the hell was that about above me? Ughhh..SPAM on here too?

Anyway - I took Phen for about a year and it was great (lost 50lbs) but I had to stop taking it. It badly effected my thyroid - it was like I had a lump in my throat and I had to keep trying to clear my throat also. Basically it made my thyroid swell! Yucky!

Loved the energy!! Wish I could bottle that part and not deal with the side effects!

  9. Awwww, I'm sorry you are having apple issues! That is one food that I honestly can say I have to stay away from! It happens to me everytime even if I peel off the skin.

I'm glad I have no diabetes issues, the hubby does and it sucks! Can't you take one of those chewable tablet things they sell at the drug stores? They probably taste like shit but will at least go down.

    Good luck!!!

  10. I have been contemplating the same thing since I found out we are going to my In-laws for the 4th of July to a reunion! None of them know I had this done and none of them ever will know if I can help it! That family would send out a mass email and burn up the phone lines to let everyone know I was banded! It would be a race to see who could tell who first!!!

I think I'm going to have to try to avoid sit down type meals which shouldn't be to hard. Mostly everyone is camping out at the lake so it'll a free for all for the most part I would think.

If they ask how I lost it I will say low carb and a less stressful job since I just changed jobs in December!

    Think it'll work? :confused2:

  11. My sister has always been a skinny b#$%* - damn her!:frown:

LOL... She lives in South Carolina, I haven't seen her in over a year but I'm anxious to see what she has to say when she sees me next. Granted she's 26 and will always look better than I do but it will be nice to at least maybe fit in one of her socks one day!!!
