bluedreams86 replied to Dabliss111114's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My NUT said that if I continued to do good, that I could start having yogurt this Monday. ::fingers crossed:: So that would be 1 week and not 2 weeks. -
November Surgery Dates Anyone? Let's Connect!

Here's my update.... I'm 6 days post op (surgery was Monday Nov 17). I am doing really great. I was released the next day after surgery. I am meeting my protein/water goals, can tolerate multivitamins, taste buds have NOT changed (though I was hoping they would) and I can tolerate sweet things-- like my Unjury chocolate splendor shake, but I've never really had a sweet tooth and much prefer the chicken flavor protein. I have plenty of energy and have been running errands and walking around. I even did a tour at the Pentagon with my mom. My main issue has been the constant gas/burp pain. I really wish I can burp or fart on command, sorry if its too much TMI. Also, my left incision hurts, but what hurts the MOST is two bruises that I have on my lower abdomen (no incisions there just bruises). If I move too quickly, it feels like someone is pulling or tugging and stabbing me at the same time. Though Tylenol seems to work on them. I had people tell me that the first week is really depressing and you will feel like "what the heck have I done to my body?!!" However, I have not experienced ANY of that. Though the sucky part right now is the liquid diet stage AND the drain. I can't wait to have this thing removed tomorrow. Also, I really wish I could have something solid, a piece of egg or canned salmon. Maybe some yogurt. I envy those people that had no desire for food or water after surgery. As far as weight..... I was 216.6 day of surgery, 222 when I got home from the hospital (IV liquids, swollen). And as of today, I was 210. So far I am so happy that I went through with the surgery and there are no regrets. -

Thanks for all the well wishes and also good luck for those having the surgery. I had my surgery at 11am today and I am finally starting to feel a little better. I was SUPER nauseous after surgery, but then again this always happens to me. They gave me meds for it and the pain is now tolerable. I felt sore but when I first woke up and like my new stomach pouch was on fire, but I feel so much better. It's just soreness and a little bit of naseau. Thank goodness for medication!! Oh yea, I am sooooooo thirsty and I can't have anything - no water until tmw. My lips are so dry even with lip balm and I am wetting the inside of my mouth/tongue with a wet hand towel. It all feel so surreal. I wasn't scared or anxious. Just really happy that I finally did the surgery and I still feel like I dreamed this. I waited so long that it felt it would never happen lol Tomorrow will another day, tomorrow will go smooth sailing as well Again good luck to those having surgery and quick recovery for everyone. We are so strong for doing this right before the holidays lol -
Surgery Scheduled 11/17/14...Any last minute tips?
bluedreams86 replied to ksdrn12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope everyone's surgery went well. Mine was today 11/17 too. I was in lots of pain and had lots of nausea even with all the prevention, but this always happens to me with anesthesia. I am finally coming off the anesthesia and feeling a little normal now. I already walked a bit and will do some more walking. Surprisingly I wasn't nervous. I was so happy and couldn't wait to do it. I hope everyone has a speedy recovery and let's support each other. Today is a major life changing event and a journey that I am so happy on embarking on. -

What is everyone elses pre-op diet?
bluedreams86 replied to going2servive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is a 7 day pre op diet that consists of Protein shakes. The injury shakes. They wanted me to drink 5 a day but since I won't be using regular milk and will be using almond milk, they said I can drink six a day The Protein powder has very little sugar so I am sure that my body will go into Ketosis and hopefully I won't be hungry by day 3. My instructions also said ALL Clear liquids. I can't even have a piece of lettuce! -
Symptoms Question
bluedreams86 replied to going2servive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you drinking enough water as well? I've read a few posts that people feel better. Maybe that would help. I start my liquid diet Monday and I'm dreading it. -
How long until you went back to work?
bluedreams86 replied to Sreeves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't speak for others but medical leaves equals free paid time from my company. My company doesn't have "sick" days only personal days. Yearly I have 23 days. So if I were to use my personal time it would not be enough. Short term disability (I don't pay extra or anything), I can take up to a total of like 12 weeks off all paid at 100% and the only requirement (besides qualifying medically) is to use five days of my personal time So for me using disability means saving my real personal days for vacation next year and still getting my full paycheck. I'm only using 5-6 weeks of disability and if I feel better sooner I'll return to work. I'm a workaholic lol -

Ahhh I didnt know about the probiotic. I will look into that. How much are you taking? I just starting taking biotin. I bought the 5000mg version, but these past few days I've been double dosing to 10,000mg. I alredy have SUPER thin hair as it is and I'm afraid I will lose all my hair after the surgery. I did see my dermatologist because I have a thinning patch because I lost too much weight quickly during the pre op diet and she told me that I could use Rogaine for men --- not women because its not strong enough. So I will start using Rogaine and even the shampoo now. I can already picture my hair failing. -

I'm going to use Unjury for my pre-op diet too. Actually, that's the only Protein powder that my doctor has on his approved list I tried several flavors and they are pretty good. I just cannot taste the difference between the chocolate Classic and the Chocolate Splendor. LOL. Have you guys decided on which Vitamins to use post-surgery? -

Wow, we're only a day apart. How exciting. I hope you don't mind, but I added you as a friend. I would love to follow your progress. -
I'm taking a full 4 weeks to make sure I heal and hopefully have no complications. I want to be able to get back to work and not feel like death. My company pays for everything. Even though I have a desk job, I supervise about 15 people and it can be really draining. All day answering questions and dealing with stress. I'm kinda looking forwarding to taking off from work.

According to my doctor's office, I don't owe anything until AFTER surgery (thank goodness). Even though I am maxed out for the year with my insurance (out of pocket max) ,they still require 10% of the cost of the surgery as a co-pay. It's only 10% of what my doctor ends up getting paid....so if they bill 30K but only get paid 15k, then I only owe 10% on the 15k

Birth control options
bluedreams86 replied to lashante23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't done the surgery yet but my doctor OK to stay on the pill -- ortho tri cyclen. I have PCOS and that is the recommended birth control for me and almost no side effects (expect a lower libido). But it could be because it regulates my testosterones LOL -

Congrats on making the choice for surgery. I felt the same way. I am tired of the yo yo dieting. My surgery is schedule for Nov 17th in DC. I can't wait!!! I am nervous but excited. It's all I can think about these days. -
Recovery..... do you really need someone the first few weeks?
bluedreams86 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I need some advice regarding having someone help me the first few weeks of recovery versus not having anyone to help me and doing recovery on my own alone. So here is the thing, I live alone in DC and my entire family is in FL. I chose to do it in DC because I really like my surgeon. I am planning on having no help during recovery and I will be taking 4-6 weeks off from work (depends how I feel). My mom thinks I am crazy (maybe she is right) and she says she wants to take the whole month off also to be with me. I feel bad because I don't want to jeopardize her job and I am not really sure that she need to be present. She suffers and worries when she sees me sick. Now, has anyone done the recovery with no help from anyone at home? Do you regret it? Those that help from others at home, were you glad someone was available or keeping you company? Or did you think you could've done this alone? Do you think maybe only the first week is needed? Also, I haven't asked my surgeon but I was thinking of doing recovery in FL, but I am afraid if there are complications that my surgeon won't be readily available. Also, I still don't know how often I will be seeing him post-surgery. My next appointment is this Thursday, so I will ask him all these questions as well, but I wanted to get your opinion or thoughts on all of this. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!! -
Maryland/DC/Northern VA Hospitals

Actually, I wondered the same thing and forgot to ask them today, darn it. Some insurances require a center of excellence. It's probably because it's a smaller program and he is the only surgeon. I'm interested to know what doesn't qualify them. So far they've been great. We will see after surgery! lol -
Any DC Metro/NoVA/MD folks

Anyone in DC? My surgery will be on Nov 17th @ Sibley. I was hoping to meet others locally that are going through this.
