  1. I am two weeks out and now feeling sore inside. Is anyone else feeling this way. Still having spasms. I would think at two weeks I would be feeling good. But feeling achey in my tummy.

Karen I felt that way at 2 weeks, it is completely normal. I didn't feel "good" or back to normal til week 4. It will be off and on but it will get better. Take it easy!!!

  2. I'm on Day 3 of Clear Liquids. The liquids I chose don't taste like I remember them. chicken broth does not taste like the chicken broth I have had in the past. What happened to my taste buds? Nothing tastes the same. They gave me a liquid meal in the hospital before I left and none of it was edible. I used to love rainbow sherbet, but this sherbet was terrible. I ate nothing. I've still only nibbled on chicken broth and sugar free Jello. I don't have an appetite of any kind. I don't know what that's about.

That is very normal. It does change the way things taste to you.

  3. The last thing you need to do is worry about gaining weight. The idea of the sleeve is not to starve yourself. You need to learn to eat again to the point where you are eating normal foods. Plus you need all the nutrition you can get or you will get sick. Don't freak out if you stop losing weight for a bit, that is normal and going to happen a few times through this journey. Working out regularly is a must. Experiment with the foods, eat slowly, and if one doesn't agree with you give it a few days and try it again. You may feel frustrated at times...I know I did. Have patience and take it one day at a time.

  4. I was sleeved on July 29th. I have lost about 30lbs post-op. I am not a very big person so my weight loss is expected to be slow, I am 200lbs right now. I am from the Chicagoland area.

Yes, I fully agree that everyone's diet is very different per doctor. I am not even following my docs rules because he wanted me on liquids for 8wks....he's crazy! I have not had any problems with throwing up either. Do you drink anything while you eat? I do get full very easily and it is extremely frustrating, not because I want more but because I find myself throwing away a lot of food. This whole journey is an experience!!!

  5. I do not have a workout routine yet. I have not returned to work and am just focused on healing completely. I have a very demanding job physically and otherwise. I have just started walking regularly. I will be returning to work soon and I know once I do, I will be more than active. Plus my hotel has a good fitness center. Exercise is extremely important, your wait lose will not continue the way you want it to. I know life is busy but you have to find the time, it is very doable. As far as eating goes, I can't really eat more than a 1/4c of food. I get full very easily. I was also told to stay away from beef and pork for a few months.

  6. It will get better!!! Everything your experiencing is very common. I was so tired for the first couple of weeks, I slept a lot! The pain when drinking I experienced for about the first week. Hydrating is super important but don't freak out cause your not drinking 64oz of Water, you won't be able to do that for a while. The burping is a pain in the butt and will continue for a while. I am 5wks out and still burp just not as much. I didn't really start to get my appetite back til week 3. Make sure you don't try to eat anything solid for now, Soups only, and you will feel full very quickly. That is normal, stop eating or you can get sick. Water, Protein Shakes, and Vitamins are a must!!!

That is all that matters right now. I wish you the best in your recovery, and just remember it does get easier. The first month is the hardest.

  7. I can say that I am only one month out and I am eating all kinds of normal foods with no problems. It is true that you do have to take Vitamins from here on out, but that is a small price to pay for your health. I have a friend that is 7 months out and eats anything and everything; steak, vegetables, candy, etc. with no negative effects. I know quite a few people personally that have had the sleeve and the bypass and they all eat what they please just in smaller portions.

With that being said, you will always find a few people with something negative to say. The reason you find so many positive people on here is because they all had good experiences. If your looking for something negative than that is exactly what your going to get. Pain is to be expected, frustration is common, and yes you have to learn to eat all over again. The first couple months are the hardest.

The reason you don't find a lot of old timers on here is because the sleeve is fairly new in a lot of places. It wasn't even offered 5-6 yrs ago in a lot of offices, so most went the the bypass. If bypass patients are fine then the sleeve patients will be okay. Sleeve patients still have a stomach to digest and better absorb nutrients...bypass patients do not. I personally know 6 bypass patients that range from 5-10yrs out and none of them suffer from malnutrition.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far and if the diet is working for you then stick with it. You do have a choice in having the surgery. The surgery is not for everybody.

We have no reason to lie to you guys. We had good experiences and don't regret our decision at all. Don't worry so much...it's going to be okay.

  8. It varies from case to case and the requirements of the job. Being on my feet long hours is not a problem. I am a conductor for the railroad. The extreme heavy lifting and crawling In to a tight space underneath and in between trains is the issue. I come home with new bruises every night all over. The last thing I need is to hurt myself. You might find you can go back sooner.

  9. Our jobs are extremely physically demanding. We have to lift up to 60lbs, a lot of walking, 16hr shifts, climbing, squaring, squeezing into really tight spaces, and consistently being thrown around and coming home with bruises all over. We were all very careful not to return to work to early and really hurt ourselves. Plus I was in the hospital for 4 days so coming back in 5 was impossible. I was on pain med's off and on for two weeks so I didn't dare drive. If I get caught driving my personal vehicle with any substance in my system I lose my job. We took every precaution necessary. We know going into it how long we had to be off. Everybody has different experiences and needs.

Definitely glad hair loss was not an issue. I made sure to take my Vitamins and Biotin religiously.

  10. I have not experienced any Hair loss. I know 8 people that had bariatric surgery. 4 sleeve and 4 bypass and not a single one of them regrets it. We had different experiences, but no one had complications. Pain is definitely to be expected, you can't drive for a couple of weeks. They all vomited quite a bit when learning to eat again, I never did once. We all took about 8 weeks off of work and couldn't lift anything til at least 6 weeks. The first 4-6 weeks are the hardest, after that it gets really easy. Actually none of us experienced hair loss but make sure you take your Vitamins. I promise you won't regret it!!! Good luck!!

  11. The pain is tolerable. I don't take anything for it. It is not that I am in too much to go back to work but in order to return I need to have absolutely no pain. I can very easily hurt myself at work. Of you have a physically demanding job I highly recommend taking off 6-8 weeks, 4 is simply not enough. Especially if you do heavy lifting.

  12. I am one month out as well and am experiencing pain in two of my incisions. I also feel like I have the energy but have yet to become active out of fear of over exerting myself. A simple trip to the store makes them hurt more. I am not a "Big" person so can debunk bigger people experience more pain theory. I started out at 220 and have lost 26lbs so far. I am hoping the pain stops soon because I can't return to work til it does.

  13. Hi, I am one month out of surgery and am still experiencing pain in my incisions. I can not return to work until I am fully recovered, because I have a very physically demanding job. About how long would you guys say that it was before you felt absolutely no pain, soreness, or discomfort. (I mean fully 100% healed) Thank for your help!

  14. I am one month out of the sleeve and can say I have no regrets. This is major surgery and is not meant to be easy but as long as you follow your doctors instructions you should be fine. I am down 25lbs so far and the closest I came to a complication was dehydration. There is pain involved for the first few weeks and if you have little ones you are definitely going to need a lot of help. I have been fortunate enough to not get sick, I have not thrown up at all. Feeling nervous is normal, the closer my surgery got the more doubts a had. I wish you the best in whatever you decide.
