Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?

@@MisforMimi I love it! That sounds like a great look!

    What do you say?

This is why I told very few people. Even some people in my family were not supportive. I hope things go better for you. There is always the option to tell the woman you don't want to talk to her about weight loss anymore. Blunt, to the point, and honest. She doesn't get it, because she doesn't want to get it. Believe me, this is NOT the easy way out. But I was off 2 oral diabetes meds and 2 insulins by the time I left the hospital, 1 week after my surgery. That's a truth you can reverse your diabetes, that quickly.

    Psych eval was um...

The psychologist I saw is big, at first I thought, oh wow, ok, someone who's had the surgery too, but over the course of the time I spent in the program (8 months) she got even bigger. I'm not quite sure how she is handing out advice, with her Fruit drinks and lattes in hand everytime I see her, and maybe that sounds bitter, and it is....but, she was not impressed with me, because of my psych dx, and wanted a letter from my therapist and my psychiatrist, because of my OCD and BPD (borderline personality disorder) diagnoses. I got glowing recommendations from both, and she signed me off, for surgery. But I spent nearly a year in therapy working on food addictions before my surgery. I also spent a year taking Dialectical Behavior Therapy classes for my BPD too, a few years prior. I work hard on being the best me I can. These Psychologists, in these bariatric programs who see you once for an hour or two, have no clue who we are, and what we are all about. What they need to be screening for is people who have food addictions. I see way too many people starving after surgery, when they should not be. Head hunger, addictions to foods....people not even making it through their liquid diets without cheating. Sorry for those who fall in that category. This is all just my opinion, of course, but addiction to food, is where people slip through the cracks in these programs. @@Sajijoma I hope it all goes ok for you. Best of luck!

Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?

I was inspired to make a special Pinterest board, after considering this question. I just started it, so I don't have too much on it yet, but this is a representation of the styles I want to wear when I get closer/reach my goal. The more I add, the more excited I get! I really never got this excited about fashion in my life. From a distance yes, but for myself...this is a very new sensation! I added my main pinterest page too, with all my boards. In case anyone would like to follow, I will follow back. My Special After Style Pinterest Board MY MAIN PINTEREST BOARDS

Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?

I'm a punk rock, new wave, industrial, goth girl at heart, I don't care that I am almost 50. I am looking forward to wearing my collection of Doc Martens, and adding to that collection....and I want a great leather jacket, and tutu's and whatever other crazy combinations of weirdness I can find. I'm seeing all kinds of fun clothes I just can't wait to get into. I have never been afraid to wear what I wanted, or have whatever color hair I want, but it's going to be a whole lot easier as I get smaller and smaller. Wearing Docs with swollen feet and ankles, is just not fun. I really don't follow anyone else's fashion, I have my own style. As an artist, I also like the idea of some DIY fashion. I'm like Sid Vicious and Hello Kitty mixed up together. It's fun! I'm trying to think of what to do with my fat clothes....I might be able to make new fashions out of them! I don't know, but I'm just crazy enough to try. lol

Did you start drinking more "coffee" after WLS?

I think this is a troll.... Even if it's not, I'm thinking....if you can't say the word SEX, maybe you shouldn't be having it. FFS...yes, I said that. While on the subject, as soon as my blood sugars got normal, my sex drive increased dramatically, in a positive, 'I want it now, and often' kind of way. Thank The Universe!! I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to talk about sex, it is something that is normal, human, and ok to do in this world. I'm not sorry for my bluntness, I'm just astounded...if you can't even say the word, sex, how does someone actually manage to have sex? Feeding the trolls only makes them come back for more. They live to get others flustered and upset. Unfortunately trolls are part of being a part of the internet. The key is recognizing them early, and ignoring them. I've seen some posts go on for pages and pages with trolls....and believe me, they are loving every minute of attention people give them. My opinion doesn't have to be your truth.

    Hunger Pain post op ????

You shouldn't feel physical hunger. If you are getting enough fluids, then it's probably head hunger.

    Eating sucks

Yes, I agree. Eating sucks! It's only a necessity now that I eat. To nourish my body. And I have a hard time getting in all I am supposed to, daily. I have no hunger since surgery. food doesn't even taste the same, and I really don't have any serious cravings. I wanted pretzels once, but I wonder if that was a salt thing. I never gave into that craving. It passed. It is weird, to have such a different relationship with food. I'm glad though, it makes me feel "normal", I guess, where I didn't before.
  10. No pain, was knocked out the entire time. In and out before you know it I didn't even have a sore throat. I drank water immediately after I was back in my room.

    SMOKING

I was a 30 year smoker. I quit about a year and a half before my surgery. I still want to smoke, all the time. I don't, but I honestly do. I have a friend who had bypass, and she claims it kept her weight down. I believe it, I gained 50 lbs after I stopped smoking. I am hopeful I will continue to remain smoke free. I have found a freedom I never really understood, until now. But...if it's a donut or a cig, I'm probably going to go for the cigarette. lol Just being honest.

    Ok, Am I Beating Myself?!

By whole cup do you mean a full cup, or a 5oz yogurt container, or 4 oz yogurt? How did you feel? Are you supposed to be eating that already? I did full liquids for a couple weeks. I couldn't even drink an 8oz Protein shake in one sitting the first few weeks after surgery. I'm unsure how you kept all that down. I'm almost 11 weeks out from surgery and I still can't eat a whole cup of anything. Not sure if you over did it, what do you think? I think only you can answer that question. My best advise is to talk to your NUT as soon as possible, and make sure you are eating the right things, and the right amounts. If you are having issues with head hunger....my best advice I tell everyone, get to a therapist, asap. That could be the very thing that helps you if you feel you are eating too much this soon after surgery. I wish you luck with everything.

    Lactose intolerant help

You can use Lactaid brand products. They make milk, cottage cheese, and a host of other products. They also make lactaid tablets that you can use before you eat anything with lactose in it. I use lactaid milk now, exclusively. I don't have any problems with cheese, only milk. Hope this helps.

"You can't get mentally healthy until...

I'd have to disagree....on one level in particular. Without emotional/mental health, i.e. dealing with food addictions, reasons we got fat, why people overeat, you set yourself up for a serious disappointment when head hunger is mistaken for real hunger. I think that mental health must be addressed first, or at least in conjuction, before you can even make permanent long lasting changes physically. I say this often, the bariatric programs do not do nearly enough with patients, in regards to mental health. That's why you see so many people on these forums saying they are starving, cheating, wanting all the food that got them fat in the first place. Of course this is just my opinion. But I know I'd be in the same place if I had not had nearly a year of private therapy sessions twice a month to deal with my food addiction issues. Dealing with addictions is so much more intense and difficult than I ever imagined. Anyone who is obese has issues. People do not get that fat solely based on food tasting good. There's usually a hole inside, issues that have been covered up for some time ...something missing that people are trying to fill up. Again...just my opinion, doesn't have to be anyone's truth. I really don't think that statement is fair. Especially because there are, and I know, chronically ill people, cancer patients, disabled people, people who are dying, etc. who are mentally sound, even though physically very ill.
  15. Good luck to you on everything! Wishing you fast healing.

    This is the point...

@@gowalking You are a true inspiration. Thank you for sharing that with us. It's so hard for me to exercise with a knee that needs replacement, and the other knee needs a bone spur removed. Once my BMI is under 40, the surgeon will do it. I try to do what I can, but I cannot wait, until I can just walk for hours again. It's a dream!
  17. She's selling her services. She made all these mistakes now she wants us to pay her so we don't. I don't care, I've always been a quirky, gothy, weird, punk rock girl, and going to remain that girl. Fat or thin. Plus I would never spend that much money on clothing. That money could be used so much more wisely. To help others, comes to mind. Just my opinion, doesn't have to be your truth.

    Post op dry heaves

You really need to call your surgeon, and your nutritionist, if you weren't given the information well before hand in papers or a book, on what to do after surgery. I'm surprised, you usually even get discharge instructions from the hospital when you left. Mine said exactly what I was to be doing. Getting in fluids, and doing liquid diet, until I was told to do differently. I can't imagine how yogurt is approved this soon after surgery. I was on liquids for a few weeks after surgery.

    Tomorrow is the Day!

@@FrankinTexas Good luck with everything! You'll be fine.
  20. @@Niki15 The warm soup usually helps on the liquid diet. I'm not sure what your liquid diet consists of, but I had to do 5 shakes a day with extra Protein in each shake, with 2% milk. I could also do SF Jello, broth, SF popsicles, caffeine free coffee, tea etc. I would double up on my shakes at least once a day, and that was key for me, in feeling full. I know it's difficult, but you'll be fine. Take it one day at a time.
  21. My tastes definitely changed. Water has tasted horrible to me since surgery. Not good when you need so much of it. I finally found I could handle tepid/room temperature water best. I used to love iced water, and the no calorie drops you put in iced water, forget it now, I want nothing to do with it. It makes it really difficult to get in my minimum water requirements daily, I'm sorry to say. I love hot tea. Celestial Seasonings no caffeine Raspberry Zinger. Also, most foods did not taste right to me, and still don't. I don't really care all that much though. I'm still not experiencing hunger 2+ months after surgery. No cravings to speak of. I think that this means the surgery was a success! It's just going to be trial and error for you. You'll find out what works and what doesn't. Best of luck to you, with everything @@Niki15 !

    Kinda Screwed up... :(

@@scarletwitch19 Now I understand. Thanks for the explanation. I'm 2 months and 5 days out from surgery, and still on soft foods...working up very slowly, to regular foods. Via my NUT's orders. I can't even imagine being able to eat something like a quesadilla at this point. You must be a fast healer. Best of luck in future.

    Kinda Screwed up... :(

I'm missing out why this was so bad. I don't really understand.... a Protein, a protein, and a carb should be fine. This exact combo is fine on my "regular" diet. No way I could ever get a whole tortilla in me, but, a tortilla with cheese and chicken are on my YES list. Of course you have to use a small tortilla, but I just don't understand, why was this so bad? Are you 2 weeks out from surgery or something, @@scarletwitch19?
