Can anyone tell me if my significant other will be allowed to spend the night at the hospital with me? I don't know if the hospitals are usually strict about visiting hours. I am going to be having the surgery with Obesity Goodbye. Even if you had your surgery elsewhere, let me know how it was for you, to give me some idea of how the hospitals work down there. Thanks a Bunch!

Thank you, I was hoping there would be a couch, just in case. It seems there maybe a change in plans. We are looking into doing the family thing in Cancun instead. The only Dr I see that does lapband in Cancun is Dr. Ortiz. So I might go with him. I know I will be in safe hands, I have heard so many wonderful things about him. But are there any other Drs. in Cancun that do this surgery? Just curious.

I am planning to get banded in the beginning of Oct. I am trying to lose some of the weight before then. I know I will be banded the rest of my life, so should I diet now? I guess part of me figures that it will give me a headstart on my weightloss, but the other part is saying "what are you nuts? eat while you can!" I don't know what to do, or what is healthiest before the surgery. Any input will help, thanks.

Great Job quitting smoking. I have been smoke free for almost 11 months now. I feel great about it. That was a huge step for me in my Quest to get healthy. I also lost 70 pounds last year, but have since gained about 45 of it back. I have learned that the "head stuff" is my thing too. I am a pro at losing weight, but I ALWAYS gain it back. I usually do Atkins because I am one of those people who like instant results. Atkins satisfies that for me. But as soon as I go off that diet I gain weight right away. In one week I have gained 12 lbs after quitting that diet. That's not even mentioning that I have a tendency to binge when I do break my diet. So I now have decided that I am doing the LapBand to help me keep it off. That is where I am the weakest. Maybe knowing that I will be able to keep the weight off will help with the head stuff. I would be very happy a 34er right now. Good Luck to you all.

Well, that make alot of sense. But why doesn't Mexico Drs. require it? Or do they? I thought the liver might have something to do with it, but wasnt sure. So is it all dieting that shrinks the liver or just liquid diets? Geez... so many questions.. so little time

Hey Swirli I have to ask, is it just here in the states that they want you to go on a liquid for weeks before surgery? And why? I mean is there a reason other than some weight loss? Like does it make the surgery safer or something? Just Curious... and Good Luck!

I guess I do need to get rid of the " Eat while you can!" attitude. I do feel like I might be losing a good friend going into this, but I know I need to do this for myself. I think I am going to try to get some weight off before my surgery. I am pretty good at taking it off, it's gaining it back that's doosy! I think it might help distract me and help the time pass faster until my date comes. Plus I am sure it will help me get into the right frame of mind for losing the weight afterwards. It always is nice to be able to get honest answers here. It does make me feel better to know that I won't be having my "last supper" and that I will still be able to have some of the foods I like...even if it's a little less of it.

I haven't yet decided. I am still thinking about Bajanor. Their price is $8000 including airfare, all hospital expenses but no aftercare included. I am also thinking about Dr.Verboonen. I know about the whole medical fraud thing, but I am not really concerned with that as of yet. Their price is $9000 includes airfare for the patient and a companion, all hosp fees, hotel (but there is an extra charge for the companion to stay in the hotel $100/night) and first fill with airfare for the patient. I have heard good things about this Dr Verboonen. I am really leaning towards him. Any input on Dr. Verboonen?

As I read this thread, it makes me look into myself. I have a very good friend that found out in Dec. '03 that in Feb '04 she would be able to get her Gastric Bypass done. All paid for by her insurance. I was happy for her genuinely, but inside I wished it could've been me. I decided that come Jan 1st, my ultimate goal would be to lose the extra weight I had been hauling around my whole life. Knowing that she would be getting her surgery, I was trying to get a good headstart so that we could be "skinny" together. I did well, I lost about 70 lbs in 4 months. I called her from time to time with updates on my progress, and she always seemed happy for me. Needless to say, she had her surgery and in no time surpassed my weight loss. I quit my diet soon after that and after about a year have just about gained it back. She is now down about 115lbs. Okay to the point... I got on a diet because I was inspired by her and needed a reason to try yet another diet. But in the process (now looking back) I probably drove her nuts about my weight loss while she was waiting for her surgery. And after reading this I hope that I didn't make her feel like your friends made you feel. I never had bad intentions, maybe your friends are so busy trying to succeed that they don't even know they are making you feel this way. I would've never wanted to hurt my friends feelings, but now I think I might've. I gotta go call her.. and apologize! Just in Case!

I am married again too.. with 2 sons and 2 daughters. I love baseball too, YANKEES FAN SINCE BIRTH!! I Have a dog "Spike" and 1 125 gallon saltwater tank with beautiful fishes and corals. I watch alot of Reality tv. Now it's Big Brother 6.

Here's one I love.. An American man is researching a small villiage in Africa. One day a woman of the tribe gives birth to a white baby. The Villiage Leader is very angry with the Researcher. "You have had love with my wife, this baby is white like you!" The American says "No,no, you are mistaken. The baby is an Albino, it happens sometimes in nature." He points over to a nearby field. Maybe someone can help me understand.. why is it that you are not suppoesed to drink with meals after being banded? I would think that drinking water will actually help you feel full faster and even help your food go down smoother.

Thank you for the advice. I was going to go with Dr. Ortiz at first, but then I found out about this Dr. and he is about 2k cheaper. That is very appealing to me since I am of course a self-pay. I am still thinking about Ortiz, but I might have to push back my date. I will keep on researching.. keep your ears peeled for me.
