  1. i was just as frightened to go under. but you are out for only a short while. anesthesia in the old days was given by the doctors who couldnt make it as anything else. that is why there were so many ill effects. today anesthesiologists are just as qualified as any other MD. your fears are wasted.

  2. insulin makes it harder to lose weight. its sort of a double edge sword. you need it for the diabetes but it helps you pack on the pounds. once you are banded mostly everyone that is type 2 diabetic goes off their insulin. you have no idea how much better you will feel. i can't encourage you enough to have the surgery. you will feel like a new person.

  3. every time i have a fill my surgeon draws all the Fluid out of my band to make sure the correct amount from the last visit is still in there. then she adds the fill amount that i am getting at that visit. you should ask whoever does your fills to draw out all the fluid thats in your band to make sure that it is still in there at every visit. they dont remove the needle in the procedure they just draw the fluid into the syringe and then put it back in. its no big deal at all and very common. as far as why type of liquid is in my band it is saline.

  4. do your own research, it is a very personal choice. both procedures require dedication in order for the weight to stay off. they are both tools that make losing the weight easier but you still have to be dedicated to the diet. with the band there are a lot of slider foods that pass right through it, and unfortunately they are the foods that are bad for the diet that slide right down. i have a band but there is no way i would knock the bypass. whatever works, i'm for.

  5. danbar,

no restriction or slider foods are when the food you are eating goes right through the band into your stomach. and your stomach is as big as before. thats why you can eat as much or almost as much as before banding, when you have no restriction.

when you get restriction or eat foods that are not slider foods thats when your pouch fills and slowly empties into your stomach. your pouch when you have restriction will fill with about a cup of food, give or take.

  6. i had 2 c sections also. they are miserable to heal from compared to the band. my girlfriend was getting a band after i did. i called her from the recovery room table to tell her not to worry that it was no worse than a trip to the dentist. and i really mean that. as long as you have a good surgeon with plenty of experience i would tell your husband not to worry. and go ahead with the surgery. my husband was also nervous. but it wasnt about him it was about me. i just could not stand all the discomforts of my obesity any longer. i mean doing anything was such a chore i just couldnt stay that way.

  7. i have a band, my daughter had the bypass. they both require dedication to lose weight but the band requires more. its really a personal decision. get all the information and statistics you can on the procedures and make your own decision. there are pros and cons to both. but you have to do your own research. read everything you can get your hands on.
