    November Sleevers, let's buddy up

I'm surprised a Surgeon wouldn't recommend a Pre-Op diet since I was told it is to shrink the liver which makes it easier for the Surgeon to get to the stomach...I have also heard that if the Surgeon can't get to the stomach because of the liver, they will close you up and try again at another time....just what I have heard...has anyone else heard this?

    Ketone in urine

From what I heard, "going into Ketosis" means your body is now working on getting rid of the stored fat in your body because your not consuming any for it store. Does that make sense? Hence the fact your only eating Proteins, and very little carbs....however 1 carb is equal to 4 sugars...and the sugars break down in the pancreas as enzymes....I think!!

    Ketone in urine

@mavsfan3521 When there is not enough insulin to get sugar from the blood and into the cells, the body turns to fat for energy. When fat is broken down, ketone bodies are made and can accumulate in the body. High levels of ketones are toxic to the body. The condition is called ketoacidosis. I am editing this because basically what it means is that your body is in shock, your on Proteins, low carbs and your systems is trying to find ways of distributing the nutrients. Have your Doc. check your sugar level...were you diabetic pre-surgery?

    Starting Solids Today

Those Quest bars look really good, yummy....But my NUT said not to eat them...they have too many carbohydrates in them .. what is out there that doesn't have many carbs in it? I can only have about 40 grams a day..

    STRESS TEST ?

The anesthesiologist requires blood test and a EKG within 30 days of surgery...not required by insurance though. Just another way of getting money out of me.. I am sure they need it to keep me safe I suppose

Money out of pocket day of procedure

I also have blue cross blue shield, and my deductable is $2,000.00 which I am sure I will have to pay upon surgery..if the hospital wants anymore than that...I will have to ask them to bill me, hopefully they will (who knows now-a-days)..I have struggled to save that much...but knew it was coming.

    Clothing Sizes

Although I am pre-surgery...thought this journey thus far I have done alot of reading and tried to keep up with the latest information the pro's and con's of the post-op. Contrary to what some may think, most of the GoodWill Stores here actually have some decent clothing..some even new, and since the medical bills with co pays, and now a 2 grand deductable for my surgery...going out and spending alot of money "that I don't have" on a new wardrobe, I will just pick up some things at GoodWill to hold me over through fluxuations. I DID however, make a promise to myself that the first 40 pounds...I will get something new..as a reward...the next 20 pounds..again..I will again get something nice....20...20..20..and when I reach my ultimate Goal...I VOWED...I was going to have that Black Leather Jacket I have always wanted..but couldn't because they didn't make my size and if they did..it just wouldn't look the same....why a black leather jacket you ask??? Because I have a brand new Harley Davidson motorcycle that I wearing that jacket would look just amazing on.

    November Sleevers, let's buddy up

My surgery is attentively scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving and the reason being..my insurance requires 6 NUT visits, but actually 7 because the Dr. appointment to schedule the surgery has to be 30 days AFTER your last NUT visit....it takes approximately 15 or so days to get insurance approval (I checked prior to, and as long as I meet the requirements, they will not deny me) so that puts me at the 21st being 15 days..but my Dr. only does surgery on certain days...which puts me on the 26th. After my last visit, I have 15 days to get blood work and EKG for medical clearance...this is not for insurance..it's for the anesthesiologist. Start 7 days pre-op diet consist of "Daily Menu" (2) 20 gram Protein drinks <--I'm going with Isopure..it's convenient, Sugar Free- (1) Popsicles (2) Jello (1) pudding, 1 cup Low Sodium broth 1 cup 98% fat free Cream Soup 1 cup non-fat plain greek yogurt <-- I can add 1 T no sugar fruit preserves if I choose to 4 oz. V8 juice 2 cups Herbal Tea <-- I'm going with Cinnamon Apple 4 cups of Water Actually it's 7 days, but the last day I have nothing but fluids. I am nervous, scared, excited...curious if it's going to work..I have the will power, but negative nancy pocks her gosh dern head in there sometimes...I quit smoking after 35 years smoking...I am currently drinking 1 shake per day (Biochem 100% vanilla whey Protein - NUT told me to mix with Almond Milk, not bad), and eating good for the most part..I haven't lost very much..but I haven't gained which is a good thing. My hair was short, and barley grows..so I got body wave put in so if I do experience hair loss it won't be so noticeable. I have these awesome dreams about being able to do my own pedicures, tie my own shoes, walk around amusement parks without getting winded or have to sit down a lot or can't make it through day like everyone else can....being able to get nice cute clothes verses the tents in the Plus Size section...so many things..but ..I also have nightmares of failing...I wouldn't be getting this "gift" if I were able to lose weight on my own...so what if I take this "gift" for granted...and abuse it the same way I abused my body for 50 years? You would think being 50 years old..I should of known better to eat that 2nd plate..or eat the piece of cake that your friend was saving for tomorrow...or even worse..sit down to watch a movie and eat a whole "big" bag of chips, with the french onion dip mind you....how could I have possibly allowed myself to get to that point? I used to be a member of a BBW club for years...and at first I was actually the thinnest one of the group of over 75 people whom met at least once a month for a get together...so when they had food...I was like..yum YUM...I can eat this and still be thinner....nope...didn't work that way..had I known better. Eventually, I was getting concerned because the other BBW's I hung around with enjoyed being big, loved it....didn't want to give up good food blah blah...however, a few became ill with diabetes and couldn't figure out why...which essentially was my straw after finding out I too...was now a diabetic. I thought and thought to myself that this BBW group would not be the ones that would support me through my journey..as a matter of fact one of the ladies had a tummy staple many years ago..and she is 5 times the size she was back then (saw pictures), on top of which....she has told me several times...that I am making the wrong choice....guess what...this is MY life and I care that I was just diagnosed with diabetes, I care that my weight is stopping me from the things in life I am supposed to be enjoying....and ya know what? I want to live!! That's all the convincing I needed....JUST TO LIVE! Sorry I was a bit long winded, it was one of those "get it off your chest" days!! Thank you for reading
  13. I surgery isn't until the day before Thanksgiving but I am still drinking a shake once a day, getting in the groove of things...by the time my pre-op diet comes I will probably be sick of them..lol I use Biochem 100% vanilla whey Protein - has about 20 grams of Protein per serving. My NUT told me to mix with Almond Milk, 1/2 a piece of strawberry and a couple slices of banana...and it's delish!! It's about $32.00 for a 1.8 lb. can..but for now it's good and it was given to me free...so I'm not complaining.

    Lose your teeth?

I haven't heard anything about that, I am still pre-op...and I have dentures....but I hope no one has problems with that.

    Pre op diet

@@sarahkaj I wish you all the luck with your surgery, and being done by a world known surgeon is great......BUT based on the questions you are asking, it seems you are totally clueless with what is going to happen to your body...this is a serious surgery and doing your "homework" on pre - op and post-op requirements would behoove you and be in your best interest. I am not trying to be mean, Truely I'm not..but please I'm begging you to do your due diligence and research this surgery and the effects it will have on your body and life. You are at a very low BMI, so I am just curious as to why you feel the need for the surgery....again..just curious.
  18. If the insurance company told you the requirements I would follow them, they aren't telling you that you need to lose 10 pounds, they are saying you need to lose in the course of the 6 month NUT period..if you gain then they will perceive you are not serious, this is a major surgery that requires a number of pre-requisite items such as physiological evaluation, any stomach test to determine hiatal herna, letter from primary doctor, blood test, heart test.....lot of hurdles to jump over...so with that being said again..if your gaining weight through the process than your intentions are not sincere. If the lady at surgeons office is rude and you feel uncomfortable..then find another surgeon. Not trying to be mean...just sayin!!

  21. @@hmk715 I just signed up for fitnesspal Can you message me your email so I can add you?
  22. Incredible, I think I speak for all of us....Job well done and very proud!! I see you mentioned exercise, but I'm actually looking for someone to give me a sample of a daily food menu....times of exercise, how much...what kind..... Ok Girl...lay it all out step by step for us... lol I want to succeed like all the rest...and I am sure most of us do on this site. PWEEEZE!!
  23. I wanted to click mention on all the post, but I am sure ya'll will read it...congrats on your weight loss, and if your not telling yourself how proud you are OF yourself...I will tell you..for you..I AM SO PROUD OF ALL OF YOU. I am due for surgery the day before Thanksgiving, any and all advise is useful to me right now as my nervous/excitement/anxiety level kicks in high gear. I am one that does good with...just tell me what to do...and I will do it...I have a leadership type personality..but when it comes to this...nothing has worked thus far in the past trying to take control over weight issues...so now..I just want to be told what to do....and that is what I will do. So if any of you have the time....can you walk me through one of your average daily food menus and what kind of exercise you are doing. I would greatly appreciate it. I have had some awesome dreams of succeeding with this gift (sleeve) but I have also had some nightmares of me failing. Is this normal behavior pre-op?
  24. WoW, 111 lbs in 3 months.....your doing awesome...great job!!

    3 month follow up WIN

Congrats...but I am just curious....please don't take this the wrong way...but you had this surgery done to loose 55 lbs? Since you have already lost 38, you have 17 more to go. Just not used to seeing someone get such an invasive surgery done for so little results needed. ""ducking head"" not trying to be sarcastic here.
