Bone broth is seriously just a marketing term. It's just stock. I've been making it myself overnight in the crockpot using rotisserie chicken carcasses forever--and it's tasty and makes awesome soups!

I'm still on full liquids and I am definitely struggling with finding that "full" point. I had some pretty unpleasant barfing going on last night because I misread the stomach-grumblings as regular, sleeved stomach grumblings and not "OMG I AM FULL STOP!" rumblings. Funny to not be able to fit in even a 1/4 cup of tomato soup! Ahh well, it's a learning process.

LOL--can you imagine any other circumstance in which 2 cherry tomatoes = "went rogue"?? So funny. As long as it went down well, I wouldn't sweat it. I mean, I wouldn't go after more, just because I'd think raw veggies are harder on the stomach. But I think as far as "going rogue" goes, you did it pretty safely. Whatever you do, don't go posting this on that "other" WLS forum...O.H....they were about to tar and feather someone the other day for daring to eat an inch of a veggie sub 5 weeks out. Morons.

January 15th, 2015 Anyone?
RedSalamander replied to downsizingdiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear you! I would feel the exact same way. I am supposed to see my NUT and get my diet advanced to purees on Tues and I am going to be really sad if I can't make it. -
2 weeks post-op and feeling awful! Please help.
RedSalamander replied to crissylynn82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no! Hopefully now that you're rehydrated you'll start to feel better. It can be a vicious cycle with the nausea and the dehydration that makes you nauseous and feel like you don't want to drink... -
Acid also mimics hunger, so make sure you're taking enough Prilosec/zantac/omeprazole!

In my post op room and struggling bad
RedSalamander replied to monopoly2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree--be that squeaky wheel! It is their job to manage your pain while you're in the hospital. Don't be afraid to say your pain level is a 9 or 10--it'll get them hopping. And tell them how nauseated you feel so they'll get you something for that, too. I felt MUCH better once I didn't have to get up and down out of the hospital bed anymore. It was so much easier to get comfortable at home--and I could have my hot Water bottle and my husband to rub my back. I felt better at home. Every day gets better, I promise. Hang in there! -
Newly sleeved....
RedSalamander replied to momoftwins+1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about where you are and I'm feeling better every day. But I am tired more or less all the time, bored silly, and sick of not being able to do everything I want. And really, REALLY looking forward to getting put on purees next week, woohoo! Eyes on the prize! Are you taking something for acid? Prilosec, omeprazole, etc.? It sounds like you really need it, or need more. Talk with your surgeon! -
Pain with every bite...?
RedSalamander replied to mrsvw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have a friend who had RNY and he suffers from a LOT of complications--pain, dumping whenever he eats vegetables, etc. I feel awful for him, but I think it's important to remember that RNY is a completely different surgery and that his (and your friend's, probably) were performed by completely different surgeons. I mean, I wouldn't be saying "OMG! My grandfather had a ruptured appendix and he almost died during surgery!" if you were talking about gallbladder surgery, right? Be as informed as you can, and remember that there are complications. But hopefully you won't have any of them! -
FUNNY question for post op 3 weeks or less
RedSalamander replied to aclinton16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually had a sort of opposite experience. I had kind of felt like it would all be slow, no one would notice, i would be able to not tell people I'd had the surgery. I'm down about 25lbs since pre-op and suddenly, I looked in the mirror and I looked thinner to myself. And an outfit I had worn not long ago that fit normally then was baggy and loose. So now I'm like, Hmmmmmmm. This is going to be noticeable... I do know what you mean, though! I kind of wish I had a chart to follow that indicated how much weight I'd be down, and when. It's funny making plans and thinking, "I wonder what I'll look like in February/April/June..." -
Hospital question for all you post- op people
RedSalamander replied to maggie mae 10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I skipped the hospital shower as well, but wonder if I would have felt better if I'd taken one? I definitely say wear the hospital gown--i went through a couple of johnnies because my drain and wick would leak on them. I definitely was glad not to have that ick on my own stuff. -
Question for "well-endowed" ladies...
RedSalamander posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I'm 3 days post-op and hanging in there. Now, I know that I can expect a massive deflation of "the girls", but I'd love to know your experiences. How many band and cup sizes did you lose, and how quickly? I generally have to buy pricey bras (I'm a 38 J cup) and my favorite online bra shop is having a sale, so im thinking of getting a few bras to help out as I lose. Thanks in advance! -
decisions decisions.... 36.9BMI, 30yr female (no kids yet)
RedSalamander replied to txfirefly979's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to come at this from a different angle. I am only 6 days post-op at this point, so obviously some things will change, but I wouldn't go back and have the surgery before kids. Nope. I had two healthy, normal pregnancies (despite my weight, which isn't really an issue) and now I have 2 lovely kids. And now I have no plans to have any more, so I don't have to worry about a fetus being properly nourished...just me! And I don't have to worry that if I have extreme (but rare!) complications that it will set pregnancy back even further... I think you'll also find that pregnancy and motherhood puts a wrench in your body hatred. You might feel uncomfortable, but you will find that your body is a miraculous, awe-inspiring thing. And frankly, you won't have time or energy for self-loathing. So don't worry too much about that. Just some thoughts. On the other hand, if you are hoping the surgery will enable you to become pregnant, that's a whole 'nother ball of wax! Oh, and you talk about your age...I know that you're in Texas, and I am most certainly not, but I had my kids at 31 and 35, and am on the young side of the other young mothers I know. Many of my friends didn't have their children until their late 30s and early 40s! -
WOOOOO!!! Rockstar!!!

Hi my fellow January sleevers! I am day 6 now. Felt much better yesterday, even better today. Still definitely having some discomfort but I made both my protein and liquid goals yesterday and on target to make or exceed them today. I just made my first post-op cup of (decaf) coffee and it went down so well (12 oz! While it was still warm! Without being reheated!) that I made a second cup. Maybe I will drink nothing but decaf from now on! Getting really sick of the limited offerings of the liquid diet...bleah. Thinking I'll pick up some different soups tomorrow--butternut squash? Carrot? Ugh. I am SO ready to be advanced to the pureed stage! Oh, I haven't tried any vitamins yet. I'm not going to become malnourished in a week, so I'm giving my sleeve time to settle down a bit before i get there. I am taking 40 mg of omeprazole, which is a pain to take (I open the caplet and swallow a few granules at a time with soup or a drink!) First post-op appointment tomorrow--looking forward to getting my staples out. Happy to hear how everyone's progressing on the other side!!!

Best contraceptive?
RedSalamander replied to Marielbx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brandy--do you mind me asking, do you find that you have worse cramps or heavy periods since getting the copper IUD? I have a Mirena but it's due to be removed this spring/summer so I'm thinking of switching to copper. -
I'm only 6 days post-op and enjoying my first cup of decaf as we speak! My doc is fine with regular, but I don't want to aggravate my raw stomach. But believe you me, I'll be right back to my beloved coffee as soon as I'm up to it.

Slimies after drinking?
RedSalamander replied to RedSalamander's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've resumed sipping, but so, so slowly. Ugh. That was awful. -
Hi all! I'm 3 days post-op and mostly doing well. But today I had what I think was a case of slimies after not eating anything. I had the desperate need to burp that didn't go away with my pacing, terrible gas-type pain, and lots of saliva. It went on till I finally vomited. I had been going so slowly--just sips! And I've only had sugar-free beverages and protein drinks. Help--I'm almost afraid to drink now.
