Will I need someone to take care of me after surgery?
luluc replied to Britalian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
cara - i view restriction in eating less & it sustaining me for longer periods of time. i never got to a point that i couldn't eat what i wanted to, let alone have trouble drinking water. it just took me longer, which my surgeon thought would be my case (having a low BMI). in the beginning i ate between 800-1000 calories per day. once i was working out with a trainer i bumped that up to 1100-1200 per day and that's where i'm at right now.... give or take. i don't feel like i'm on a diet - i eat pretty much what i want; the band helped curb my savory carb addiction and eating healthy is the norm. that's not to say i don't have wine or treats every now and then....reason i don't view it so much as a diet rather lifestyle change. tink - hubby and i did grow closer going thru the process together. we both realize i would have been difficult if only one of us did it. good luck to you both!! -
Some people don't get it...
luluc replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
travelinsnorkle, what i do is eat before going to someones house / dinner party. say a cup of cottage cheese, greek yogurt, some veggies - edamame....something to get me through a meal should there be not much i can eat. i really don't have problems with bread/pasta etc...but just try to limit those as they were my downfall...., i also don't eat well in front of others. i can get stuck on something that never gave me a problem in the past - that is more my issue. since no one really knows i'm banded - i don't give a heads up of what i can / can not eat. thankfully most of my friends are health nuts, and there is some type of fish served., however there have been a few times i was glad i had some sort of snack:) -
why don't you check out this thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/starting-holiday-detox-early-anyone-wanna-join-me-84070/ there are many of us that just needed to get back on track after the holidays or just in general. there are those from every stage of being banded from a few months to a few yrs. i personally thought i needed a fill after what i was able to eat in the month of december with parties & Snacks. after 4 days, i realized i just needed to get back to the basics and my meal consumption has gotten back on track. i wish you well!

i just asked hubby if he knew what an eiffel tower was, and his eyes got big.....forced me to look up the urban dictionary. he just got a hell NO from me.

i've confirmed i don't need a fill yesterday. my food portions were much less, and even after doing an hr of cardio - i didn't have my normal 2 snacks a day. good sign. -
had been doing a liquid protein diet for a few days to break the snacking of the holidays & parties...back to eating food yesterday: b- 1 scrambled egg, w/slice of muenster cheese l- 3 pcs of tuna sashimi, few sips of hot/sour soup d- 2 turkey meatballs w/marinara, glass of wine

ok - my nose feels like it's 5lbs right now full of NASTINESS, and that doesn't sound the least bit like something i would try for relief... i rather bitch to DH, in hopes he goes hunting sooner rather than LATER...

it was fine by day 2 - he annoyed the crap out of me, but once i got him loaded up on pain meds he was FINE & so was I. LOL actually we are very grateful to have gone through every step together - it was a blessing, one knew what the other was going through w/out having to explain it...facial expression and hand gestures were well read.. our surgeon still laughs at how competitive we are w/one another....not to discourage you, but DH got to goal w/in 6 months. it took me a LOT longer, and he only needed 3 fills - me i needed 8 for restriction. so comparing one another might not be a good thing - if that at all is possible. all the best~! -

he'd never put it there - have found it in his truck & in the barn once....keeping my promise not to go hunt it down. so - onto solid Proteins today...i think it was brandy who said she wanted to do this to see if she needed a fill or not??? well i thought all last wk i needed a fill - NO. i needed to do this smack down into band reality. my portion sizes for Breakfast & lunch were a qtr of what they had been and i'm quite satisfied. it works - for those maybe lurking; everyone needs a fine tune up here/there! cheers~ -
i do call them arm thingies...LOL they need to make equipment for the short folk...HA today - still have head cold but DH is on vacation so we go to the gym. 25min interval bike training 35min treadmill - no running; didn't have enough tissues:tongue2:

thanks, it took me 10 months to lose about 75lbs. it was very slow in the beginning - but it kicked in around month 6. i eat pretty healthy & exercise regularly.....i had been maintaining for 5 months, but i had a bit too much fun around the holiday parties, and i need to shed a few. i found getting back to basics over the wkend has helped a bunch...just needed a nudge to get past the "treats"..... -

i would have been fine alone & would have preferred that way - or an extra night in the hospital. i was banded the same day as my husband, and he had the "worst pain" ever & i had to hear it 24/7. i like my quiet when not feeling so hot / he prefers a lot of attention and i was up and driving the next am for ice pops and prescription fills. if you have friend to help - take them up on it. you would do much better in an environment that your comfortable with & without distractions. good luck on your surgery!! -
hi - i'm going to speak for my husband (banded - but not on this site) who travels 15+ days a month. he has also after 14 months not shared w/his colleagues that he has the band. for quite a while he did order soup - now he'll order fish/lean meat/salad/, anything on the menu that he can get through w/out having a stuck episode (foods that are OK for him after trial-error). he said he's learned the art of taking 2/4 bites and moving his food around like he did eat something when in a stressful situation or the food is too difficult to handle. he got a lot of questions, as he was a big eater - he's just replied that he's cut his portions & is exercising..... funny thing, we had his company holiday party 2 wks ago & several guys have gone on a diet after he lost all his weight. he was an influence & didn't even know OR share his WLS... good luck to you!!

i use the elliptical at the gym, not sure brand/model names. i like the elliptical to mix things up, and it's less impact on the knees - but it does not give me an all over body workout. i know there are "arm" handles to swing with - but i can never use them. i'm barely 5'1 and have short arms - vertically challenged....can't reach them w/out leaning way forward... hopefully others w/an elliptical chime in.......taps has a wave machine at her Y - that's what i wish my gym would buy.
