Eukeeemj reacted to jamill527 in I'm pregnant!
So I'm 1yr and 1 month post op, and I've just found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant! I'm so excited but scared at the same time. I already have a 15&13yr old, so parenthood is not new to me. However I've been trying to have another baby for 10yrs now, and boom it happens after I've lost all this weight. My dr sent me to see a gynecologist to see was I infertile, and we talked, and she reveled to me I was pregnant. I'm telling you I was in total shock!!!! This is me last Friday when I found out.

    Hi
I had my sleeve on September 29th, 2014...What I never tough of or expected is the emotions of being home with my family and not being able to to cook for them or even sit at the table with them for dinner...
NEVER saw that one coming! I was on a 3 week pre op diet and lived on veggy Soups & Protein drinks and I was good with it. When I got home and realised I could not feed my boys I lost it! I really hated my life at that point and regretted the entire surgery.
It almost felt like the weight loss was not an accomplishment because I was on liquids, I better loose weight on those or else something would be wrong...
My boys are teenagers and they eat! Grilled Steak, eggs & bacon in the am etc... It was a sad few days...That was day 6&7.
I realised that all of this was playing itself in my head...let's face it most of us here over ate because of what was happening between our ears NOT because we were hungry...
So I decided to take the following approach in order to knock down the pity party happening in my head...I know look at what I drink (still in the full liquid phase for another few weeks) as what I am taking this in to survive, this is gasoline for my body so I can live & have fun and bike & run & travel & swim and enjoy life....
I never expected this to be this hard, I actually had second thoughts before travelling for the surgery...I felt like I was taking the easy way out...holy crap was I ever wrong...It's freaking hard and then surgery recoup on top of that...
I know everyday is getting better & better physically & between my ears, but I guess this is what we should all be looking towards is a lifestyle change...I was at first thinking I can't wait to eat my next burger, fries, pizza etc...then I realized if I fall in the same trap I will be at the same place a few years down the road...and really this is too hard to do over...So I can't wait to eat an amazing scrambled egg with herbs and fresh ground pepper & salt...YUM!
Heres to reprograming/reframing my brain...get out of my head and into my body!

I was not required to prove I could fail on another diet (oh wait they expect success) ....so I am sorry that you are stuck in this situation. I know others will disagree, but I find that many "starches" trigger cravings and over eating even 3 years post op. It works best for me to eliminate or severely restrict many of them. So I do eat veggies, Protein, berries, greek yogurt etc. On a daily basis I avoid rice, Pasta, bread and potatoes and I eat very little fruit (sugar!)..even 3 years out and below goal.... I never eat fast food, junky food like chips and Cookies. My advice, go back to stage 1.
Bread is my nemesis and now my kids have moved back home it surrounds me again. It is a delicious demon which i work very hard to minimize. Do not get me wrong we need some carbs for good health but we need way less than our typical diet includes. Some of us are more insulin resistant and prone to the carb crazy train too.

I just completed my first half marathon. It was great. I finished in 2 hours 9 minutes. I am down 130 lbs since January. I feel blessed to have this gift and enjoy it.

Eukeeemj got a reaction from jessiquoi in Two weeks out...this is long!
I had my sleeve done on 9/26 making it two weeks tomorrow, it's gone by fast. I just wanted to post my experience thus far in case it may help anyone else getting ready to start this journey. My surgery itself was done within an hour and no problems. I was in recovery for several hours because there wasn't a room ready for me yet. I had the most wonderful nurse in recovery and she stayed past her shift to make sure I stayed comfortable and was moved to my room. I slept most of the time but when I was awake I had that horrible gas pain in my chest, thankfully I was able to start burping and relieved some of the pressure. Once I was up in my room, I was more alert and was able to get up and into the bathroom (with help) and back to bed. Other than the obvious pain, I felt pretty good and was able to drink Water. I was released the next day with pain meds only and everything was fine the rest of the day. At about 1am the next morning I woke up in pain and got out of bed. I tried to sip some water and immediately began dry heaving. I got myself calmed down and into a position where my stomach seemed to calm down and I fell asleep. I got up again around 9 and tried to get more water down with the intention of taking a pain med and immediately starting dry heaving and eventually threw up quite a bit of yellow Fluid, that was the most painful experience of my life. At that point my mother convinced me to call the surgeon because I had not had any fluid for almost 12 hours. They had me go to the ER and had me readmitted to the hospital to get Iv fluids. I was so dehydrated that it took 3 people to take my blood, and the Iv nurse had tried 4 sites before settling for the middle of my forearm (still bruised lol), but once they got me back on zofran and fluids I felt better pretty quickly. They kept me 2 nights to be safe and then let me go with the zofran prescription. Just remember zofran is your friend, make sure you have this. I think I mistook some of my nausea for pain. Once I got home, everything was better, I found a Protein Shake that agreed with me (muscle milk) and my stomach seems to like Greek yogurt as well. This week was my start to soft foods but I've been taking it slow. So far I've tried scrambled egg, baked potato (no skin), a few mushy green Beans, and some canned pear. The good news is that it all stayed down lol. I had my post op visit yesterday and my surgeon is pleased with my progress, I've lost 22 lbs which he said puts me way ahead of schedule. I'm expecting this to slow down soon as I've read a stall is likely to occur at some point. Anyway, I hope this helps someone and doesn't scare anyone. I would still do it again. I started feeling human again this week and other than some fatigue I have no other complaints

I am 1 week and 1 day out and I'm so glad you wrote this, I really needed to read this today! I have been having such a bummy day and was really starting to feel depressed but to know that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel will help keep me going!

I am so glad it helped. I was just
Hoping to connect to other people who haven't had a fast recovery. To be honest, while it was wonderful to read about people recovering so fast, it was also frustrating knowing I couldn't relate to them. I would think "did I do something wrong" or "maybe I shouldn't have done this". But once you start feeling better, a light goes off and you're like "ok, I get it now". It's re-learning your body and figuring out what it's trying to tell you. Once you have that figured out (in addition to no more pain from the recovery), you will see that light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck!!!

Good news! I'm not dying lol. The cardiologist said my EKG looked like any other women's EKG and that my heart sounds fine. He wants to follow up with me in a year to see how I do after surgery but other than that all is well!

My surgery is on 9/26 too! My surgeon doesn't require the liquid diet, I was just told to eat light meals for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. I know for some people it is to shrink the liver and my liver enzyme tests all came back within normal limits so I think may be why I don't need to. I was also told with with the sleeve, they go in on the side opposite from the liver so there is less risk of injury to the liver. Again, everyone and every surgeon is different! Good Luck!
