  1. My doctor originally said Clear liquids the day before but my blood work came back yesterday saying my liver enzymes were slightly elevated, they sent me to get an abdominal ultrasound and wouldn't you know it!! I have a fatty liver. Not a big surprise but I think he is going to make me follow a special diet before my surgery on the 27th.

Bypass didn't work, 2 surgical issues

@@Bariatric Bypass I don't have any answers for you. I have not even had the surgery yet myself. But I can not imagine how disappointed you are. I just wanted to tell you that I hope all works out well for you. Please don't lose heart. Stay strong and be courageous. Keep us updated.

    did you tell people?

I have not had the surgery yet but I have told some people. I figure people will ask when they notice I am losing and I have decided to tell them I am only eating 700 calories a day. Then if I need to I will clarify and tell them that I can only fit that much in because of weight loss surgery. ..........or at least that is my plan!!! lol I am trying not to be too secretive because it feels much better for me to be out in the open.
  4. I am once again looking for advice from those of you who have done this? I am scheduled for surgery January 20. I am concerned I will not be able to eat enough Protein. How did you manage to get in all of the protein that you need the first few days? Weeks? etc. Can you give me a sample day? I know that you guys have some pretty good tricks to getting it all in and I would like to use your knowledge!

How can i get in my protein?

Thanks Guys! Great ideas. I especially thought the every other hour idea was worth checking out. I am very bad about keeping track of things and that will help me tremendously. I will have to up the amount of protein every hour though. I don't stay up that late. And I don't think I will be able to stomach anything at 5 in the morning. Did anyone else hear that it's not a good idea to stretch your protein out through out the day?

    Getting rid of addictions

I used to smoke too. I smoked for 25 years :/ Every time I would go to the doctor for anything they would blame it on smoking. "Your back hurts? It's because you smoke. You have a cold? It's because you smoke. You have an ingrown toenail? You smoke."!!!!!!! Every single time. Then I quit smoking cold turkey. I gained 60 pounds. Now when I go to the doctor it's "Your back hurts? You're overweight!" LOL Seriously. That is exactly how it is. But am I glad I quit smoking. Even with all the weight gain. I feel so much better. And I really loved to smoke. I prayed about it while I was quitting. I asked Jesus to help me not to indulge in something so unhealthy for me. I should have prayed not to replace cigarettes with twinkies..............SMH
  7. Just wondering....... I am a stay at home mom. I only have a teenager left in my house. How long will I be down? Will I want to go out to my daughters basketball games? Will I be able to make dinner for my family? Go to the grocery store? What kind of time frame am I looking at? Also....what has been your experience with getting back to driving? Thanks in advance!

    Questions?

I had already been in weight watchers for the entire year previous to my initial consult, so that counted as my 6 months supervised weight loss effort.. After that: 1. 2 NUT consultations 2. Psych evaluation 3. letter of necessity from my primary doctor 4. endoscopy 5. colonoscopy 6. hematology consult The last three because I have had anemia issues. I think that was it for me. I had my first visit 9/8/14. I submitted the middle of October. and was approved two weeks later.
  9. Hi Everyone.....As much as I have been hanging around the forums, I am stuck! I have been approved for surgery on January 20th. The problem is, I did all of my NUT counseling back in September and I don't remember what I should be eating after the surgery. I don't remember what kind/how much Vitamins I should be taking. How to get my Protein in etc. I am going to see if I can make another appointment with the dietician but in the mean time.....Can you tell me what you have been eating and taking in right after surgery? What are some good, quality sources of Protein drinks that I can buy ahead of time? Thanks in advance!!!

Help! What am I supposed to eat?

Thanks for sharing.......That does seem different than what I have heard from most people. But the cream of wheat is something I would have never thought of! I wonder if you could add a bit of Protein powder to that and maybe some milk ?

    Approval!

Hey @@SuzeMuze! I read your post on Jonathan Blue's blog. That was really good. Thanks. It made me think and consider what you said. And that is so true. I am not going to compare myself to others because that will steal my joy. I will be truly happy with others accomplishments as well as my own. Thanks again.

    Pre-surgery tests

@SuzeMuze: Thanks for the info. Do you know if I would be able to attend even if Dr. McKenna did not do my surgery?

    Pre-surgery tests

Also. To answer your question.....I had to go to see a psychiatrist, a hematologist and I needed to have an endoscopy as well as getting a letter of necessity from my primary. But just to make sure I had all my bases covered, I also went to the gyn for an annual and I had a colonoscopy. I think I am going to try to squeeze in a mammogram before surgery as well.

    Pre-surgery tests

Hi Marylandcrab! I think you and I must live pretty close to one another, I see that you have Dr. McKenna in Frederick. I live in the Frederick area also. I did some of the same testing as you and I also had to go to a hematologist because I struggled with anemia in the past. I actually have my surgery date set for January 20. I was wondering....do you know of any support groups in the area?

    western Maryland

Hi Drmeow, I am in Frederick. I decided to travel to Baltimore for my surgery. I didn't like the fact that all the doctors at Meritus had their practices in Pennsylvania. I checked some in Frederick, but was only able to find one doctor that did the surgery. I have not had surgery yet, but am scheduled for January 20th with Dr. Schweitzer.
  21. PS. You are NOT a failure! You are an overcomer!
  22. hi nurserosemary, I have not had my surgery yet, but I have been reading the posts here for months and from what I have read, what you are experiencing is not unusual. I think that it is common to stall and that with the exercising that you have been doing, your body just might be wondering what the heck is going on and is holding out til it feels more secure. If your doctor is not able to relate well with you maybe you could find a nutritionist or a dietician that could guide you better on what is good for you nutritionally. It is really very important that you are eating a correct amount of protein, as well as taking in the correct vitamins. It is what will help you to stay healthy for the years to come. I am sorry your doctor has such a lousy "bedside manner". It only makes things that much more difficult for you. But hang in there. Take charge of what is going on if your doctor will not. God bless.
  23. I was wondering....... If, as a veteran bypasser, you could give your top five bits of advice on how to be successful, what would they be? I have not had the surgery yet. I am looking forward to having it done in the near future. But I really want to be successful. I was wondering what others that have already done it, would say are the top five things that they did that helped them lose the weight and keep it off.
  24. WOW! Thanks Amylif2. I am getting closer to my surgery date and I am a bit nervous. It will really help to go back and read the words of those that have gone through it. I am not looking forward to the sagging skin/no boobs part and keep praying I will be the exception. lol But you are right about concentrating on being healthy not aesthetically pleasing. Thanks for taking the time to offer your wisdom.
  25. Thanks tamg26k! I struggle with eating too quickly :/ so I will keep that in mind.
