April bypass buddies.
Hello fellow RNYs, I had my surgery 4/8 and so far so good. No complications. Surgery day I checked in at 10:30am, had to do the whole pre op thing, surgery was supposed to begin @ 12:30p but I didn't actually go back to the OR until 1pm. As soon as I got to the OR I through up everywhere. My surgeon asked "Are you throwing up?" and embarrassingly I said yes and apologized. Everyone in the OR was so understanding and advised me that it's not the first time that happened. I think the only reason why I vomited was because of nerves and also the fact that I hadn't ate anything since they day before and they are popping me full of meds. But after that I was put under and woke up in recovery feeling like a new person. No regrets so far, but still mentally crave food I can't have. So it's a work in progress.

5 days post op
Things are going well, no nausea or pain. Sometimes I think my pouch is bigger than it should be because I've only felt full once since the surgery and that's day 3 when they finally introduced me to soft food while in the hospital. I look at myself, and I know that I'm only 5 days out but I don't feel like I've lost anything, and it doesn't help that I don't have a scale. Unemployed and can't afford one so have to wait for follow up appointments to check weight loss. I've read others concerns regarding their weight loss and I know that I shouldn't expect such a huge change being only five days out. But my brother had the sleeve and he is barely 2 mos post op and already down 65lbs. So I'm a little jealous at how quickly his weight is coming off.

5 days post-op
I am 5 days post op and on day 3 they started me on soft foods while still in the hospital. They tried me on scrambled eggs, and I had to place a portion of the eggs in a 1oz cup. I couldn't even finish the cup before getting full. But I didn't feel any pain or nausea and they are okay with me and soft high protein foods for my first month. My advice to you is to stick with your dr diet for you and when you do begin soft foods, the secret is to chew chew chew and take your time and break before bites. That's what's been working for me.

Surgery today
Thanks everyone for their prayers and well wishes. I'm doing okay. Just a little sore. Trying hard to get my fluids in. I'm currently at the stage "what have I done to myself? "

No pre-op diet?
I'm having my surgery on the 6th and my doctor said no liquid diet as well. He just told me to continue to eat light. But nothing after midnight the day before surgery. I meant my surgery is on the 8th

How long from first consult to surg date?
My first consult was 7/24/14 and my surgery date is April 8th. Originally was in Jan but my protein was too low for them to operate. I'm good to go now.

April surgeries
Congrats on your date. My date is April 8th. Nervous and excited all at the same time.

April 8th
I'm so excited I finally got my surgery date. I can't believe that I'm finally gonna make it to the losers club. I waited 8 long months for this, and I'm more nervous than excited. I just have to take a pre-op class. Can anyone tell me what to expect during this class?? Any advice is welcome.

Friendships and Gastric bypass surgery
@@blashlee thanks for your input, and I am beginning to realize that she isn't really a friend. At least not any friend I want to have. I guess I'm out growing her, because I don't think I've ever liked her personality, and now I'm just fed up with it now.

Here we go again
@@nicern99, thank you for sharing your story. I was really upset yesterday because this is something I want really bad and to be told that something like protein is the only thing stopping me right now is really hurtful. I'm gonna go to my doctor tomorrow if the snow isn't too bad and try to figure out what's going on with my protein.
-
Here we go again
Well again protein not normal for surgery so now I have to go back to my PCP so he can determine why my body isn't getting enough protein. I'm really starting to feel like this surgery isn't going to happen for me. I literally cried for 2 hrs once I found out. Please pray for me, because I'm on the verge of saying forget it and accept the fact that I am meant to be fat.

African American RNY Sisters
Yes they know I'm not supposed to be smoking but they don't really try to stop me from smoking. I agree being in the bingo hall is my trigger and I may need to take a break from going just till I can control this nicotine demon. I realized that I also believe that if I get an actual surgery date that it will also motivate me even more to quit.

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)
Everyone looks so amazing and I can't wait to have my surgery so I can have before and after pics too.

African American RNY Sisters
Hi my name is Lea and I'm just venting. My mom and I were discussing my decision to have gastric bypass surgery and she believes that deep down I don't want the surgery. She stated that she believes I'm sabotaging myself into not having it. We'll here is a little background. I started this journey back in June 2014 and my insurance requires 6 months before I can have surgery. So I originally should have had the surgery in January, but because my protein was too low the doctor would not operate. So had to wait another month to retest. We'll I tried different protein shakes (nasty) and I admit that I wasn't drinking the shakes like I was supposed to, so it shouldn't have been no surprise that my protein didn't improve, in fact it actually dropped some more, and again the doctor would not operate. We'll I'm doing better with getting my protein in, but to add insult to injury I'm still smoking. I can't seem to help myself and I don't know how some of you, who have smoked were able to easily quit. I don't smoke daily, I smoke only when I go to Bingo. Which is every weekend. I'm fine during the week, and I haven't bought my own pack in months but soon as I step foot in that bingo hall with either my sister or sister in law, who both smoke. I end up smoking off of their pack. I give them $5 toward their next pack because I smoke their cigarettes like it's my own pack. I usually smoke about 4 - 5 cigarettes when I'm there. I don't get the cravings at home anymore it's only when I'm at bingo. So 2 addictions, bingo and cigs. Now if my doctor finds this out he's definitely not going to operate because he takes that very seriously, and I really do want to stop so I can have the surgery. I just don't know how. Am I really sabotaging myself?? Because it will be my own fault if I don't have the surgery. If anyone can offer tips on what helped them I'm all ears. And if I can't handle not being able to smoke will I fail at this whole process?? Because if I can't quit whose to say I'll succeed with my new weight loss surgery lifestyle?? Please any words of encouragement, advice, prayers?

Coworkers talking.. "she had something done"
I empathize with your situation. I'd ignore the ignorance in the workplace, because it's none of their business what you did. You shouldn't have to explain to no one, and your supervisor would be wrong to tell them. Just keep up the good work and stay focus and remember that haters are gonna hate unfortunately. Stay beautiful!!!
