    Reflux

Can you start to corelate the foods you eat and which cause bad reflux? I just can't drink wine now or I reflux like crazy.... there are a lot of good articles on reflux and gerd with the foods to avoid. Makes a difference.
  2. I hear you on the hair loss..... I have a few bald spots, shed hair in clumps.... I'm good at hitting 60+ grams of protein and multivitamins. It will grow back.... our bodies are just stressed. For now, I pull it up with clips or in a loose bun... cover with headbands. I've also had 3 surgeries in 5 months (1 vsg + 2 hernia repairs). Deep breaths. If it gets Rediculously bad, I'm getting a wig.

    2 days post op

This is normal. You just had surgery and it takes time to get semi normal. Reset your expectations that you will be feeling awesome in days.... it's more like weeks with baby steps. You will recover and adjust.
  4. I'm not going to miss bumping into walls, worrying about fitting into chairs - especially airplane seats, having to shop at plus size stores and so much more! What about you? What are you going to try as you get smaller? I want to try rock wall climbing!

    Before and After Pics

More than half way to goal. I had to share my scooter success. Yep, I'm 40 and riding a Razor scooter for the first! So much fun!
  6. Hi there fellow sleevers.... when you compare what your hunger signals feel like before and now after sleeve, are they different? Here's my reason for asking. ...I'm 5 months post op and have been chasing horrible pains in my throat that feel like a lumpy golfball. Extensive testing all negative, multiple hiatal hernia repair surgeries.... it's gotten drastic and really over the top. I am just now thinking I've got a reason. Maybe my hunger pains are now in my throat rather than mid abdomen. Interestingly enough, the pain that started slow and then unbearable ---> resolves after eating some bites of tuna and a cracker. Did your hunger pang location shift? I'm hoping my mystery has now been resolved. I can't begin to explain the months of medical testing and surgery..... Crossing fingers.

    ANY ORANGE COUNTY CA, SLEEVERS

Hi Bajagal10 - congrats on your weight loss! Doing ok over here. Just got home from hiatal hernia repair #3. Ouch! Recovering for the next few weeks but would love to connect with everyone. Great to see the post!
  8. Anyone fall into this category? Looking to connect with anyone who has experienced reoccurring hiatal hernias. I had my 1st repair during my sleeve sugery, then 2nd hiatal hernia repair in Dec 2014... now looks like I might be encountering #3 with the same symptoms occuring. What the heck, right?!
  9. So incredibly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your stories and pics!!

    It's becoming real!

You can do this. Yes, the road is tough but I think it will get easier with time. Just think about how awesome you are going to physically feel. Hugs.

    Sipping?

I don't think you'll stretch the sleeve as liquid runs thru fast. Gulps might just make you feel fuller and uncomfortable. Listen to your sleeve.

    A 200 calorie a day Hot Mess

Can you up your exercise? Talk to the surgeon and explain what you've accomplished.

    Yogurt?

My vote is also for Fage. I'm using the 2% as I need the extra calories for now.

    Farewell Tour

I'm totally not trying to sound judgemental. ... but seriously, after 4 months post op, you learn to not be so "in love" with foods. The passion gets sapped when the first 2 months it feels crummy going down and then you can only eat about 2-3 ounces at a time. Find something else early, preop that makes you happy and excited. .. not food. Trust me, I get it.... preop, I'd plan my day out to get Breakfast at McDonald's and then get lunch at another fast food place and then 2 mcdoubles back at McDonald's right around dinner. Now, I eat two tiny bites of bun, then just 1/2 a single patty.... no fries or drink since there's no room. Getting full feels like I've had a huge thanksgiving meal, almost slightly uncomfortable. Prepare to have your cravings change too... I'm rooting for you guys. You can and will do it just fine. Just be prepared for hard work, changes mentally, physically. Definitely not a walk in the park, which you know. Be prepared for excuses why you aren't eating much around folks who don't know you've had surgery.... excuses for why u are losing weight fast, etc. Lots of people will question your family members to see what is going on. It's just a life changer. I'm here if anyone needs to vent.
  18. Hope this post finds new sleevers and old doing well. Any new techniques or personal discoveries you can share with others? I am at 38% excess weight loss, roughly 52 lbs down. Had to have a second hiatal hernia surgery in December as the initial repair with VSG broke. My symptoms for 3 months - felt like I swallowed a golf ball and throat pain. 2 upper gis + endoscopy. ... what a pain in the a $$. Sending good vibes to you guys.

    Disappointed With Myself

It's ok. You will be fine. Were you hungry? Maybe stash a protein bar or two in places that you can easily get to.
  22. hi there! Interesting request about the soap but scented should be fine. I would recommend chapstick, loose pants, a good book and a cell phone charger if you have a phone. I didn't experience more pain as a result of my hernia repair and sleeving. In recovery, you feel loopy and stoned. If you are in pain make sure they give you meds. No need to suffer or tough it out. First few days/weeks are tough. I'm not going to sugar coat it. Small sips, don't rush to get to purees, rest. Be your own patient advocate - if something is feeling weird or making you worry, talk to your surgeon. This is a life long journey and the discomfort will get better. You can do this.

    Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

Maple syrup, honey, agave syrup, splenda, almond butter. Those are some of the items I use as a single addition.
