New Whey Protein Tube?
for a sleeve depending on the size of your sleeve, it can be as much as 40. is what is on my worksheets from my nutritionist , anything over that is just extra. the smaller the size of the sleeve the quicker things pass through without being absorbed (has to dow ith less surface area i think,?) I've seen a lot of new Protein gels and of course gummies ( but those gummies have a ton of sugar so watch out) but since it has no sugars or carbs hey why not, if it helps you get what you need and your fluids are still getting in, then personally i cant see why not, but i would definitely ask your nutritionist. Oh also, i dont know if whey protein isthe same as whey protein isolate, i think the isolate is a more refined version so you can absorb it better, but I cant say with definitive poisitivity.

Intermittent Weight loss, How do you handle it?
you know that makes a lot of sense to maybe weigh here and there but only one day as the official weigh in day. ,

Can't stop smiling....... =)
AWESOME!, i did an interview with a newspaper about his surgery and one of my biggest goals is togo to disney when i hit goal or near it, so that I can , like you said , fit on everything , including a regular plane seat and actaully walk through the park without sitting every 50 feet. Good for you ! you go !

pcp approval letter
i had that problem due to the fact my PCP was affiliated with a different hospital group than where i went to have my surgery. it took me a week of calls and in-person visits before i finally got him to relent and write me a letter. Thing is he id t when i told him he doesn't have to refer me or recommend my surgeon, just state that he recommends the procedure. That worked just fine.

What to wear in hospital? What feels best?
there was no way for me to put on clothes with the leg massagers, and the iv line, i would've had to have them disconnect it and reconnect it to put on a shirt plus the monitor lines would've had to be the same, it would've been too much of a hassle plus every nurse shift change they had to give me heparin plus check the incisions, change dressings, etc. was easier in the gown, and i had a nice big gown that actually fit. ( gowns in bariatric sizes! who knew!)

Intermittent Weight loss, How do you handle it?
So, i weigh myself each morning, same time, on the same scale in the same place etc. in the very early going it was amazing to see the weight loss, 1 1/2 to 2 pounds per day it seemed. now after losing 85+ i have noticed that of course it slows down, but ill notice than for two days ill stall then ill lose 2 pounds of the next 3 days then stall for 2 days, etc. this seems to almost be a pattern, and this is with my diet and exercise staying he exact same, no cheating or extra sugars or carbs etc. My question is, that on those mornings when the scale is just not going to move, how do you handle the feeling f "what did i do wrong, why didn't i lose today) etc.? Perhaps i should start weighing only bi-weekly or weekly even. So i guess my questions are really twofold. 1. How do you get past those feelings of anger/ depressed/annoyance etc of not losing each day? 2. Is it better to weight weekly at this point , I do worry than by not weighing in daily I may miss some key piece of information that i need to keep my weight loss moving forward.? I was thinking about writing a piece of fiction about a handsome yet obese man who seduces his young and naive secretary after he has sleeve surgery, Im going to call it, 50 Grams Of Carbs. LOL

Hubby doesn't understand!
its very easy to look at others and say, "how can you eat that in front of me" etc. i always joke with my wife, although she has lost about 15 pounds since I started losing, she doesn't have to restrict her eating. so it's hard when she has some chocolate, or the like, or even just seeing her have carbs that i can't. or won't have. but i made a vow to myself not to become the person that watches what she eats and tries to make it so if I can't have it, it cannot be in the house etc. in that respect i make the extra effort not only to do what i must for my own health and weight loss, but to be sure i dont turn into the ex-fat person who tells people how bad their eating habits are etc. I refuse to become that person. That's being said, being on all liquids was so hard, because as you say, you just want a damn bite of food. Im honest when i say i would probably engage is weird acts of silliness if i could only have some regular good old bread. lol and during liquids I probably would've robbed bank for a few french fries.

Calcium Citrate versus CAlcium Carbonate
The Vitamin shoppe which is online also sells calcium chews in caramel and in chocolate caramel, they dont have bad sugar no worries there but they taste like caramels and are easy as pie to eat and digest. Personally they saved me from the bad tasting tablet types. Here is a link http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/search?search=calcium+chews#

To Snack or not to Snack - Ask your Dietitian the Question
so far apple slices, ( recommended with Peanut Butter by my nutritionist but for me apples and peanut butter just dont go together) some hummus either with carrot sticks or the like, or there are these great edamame rice crackers at trader joes that go great with hummus, half a whole grain, and flax seed pita with some natural peanut butter on it can be great but i do find it hard to eat peanut butter with nothing to drink, I have to try to find some jerky i can deal with, with a top partial denture jerky can be somewhat hard to eat.

Ah, the old back handed compliment!
There is an old saying , "learn to take a compliment." sometimes compliments are just that. I love hearing how great I look, it lifts me up, and motivates me that little bit more to keep it up. Now i know not everyone is me by any means, but if someone says, wow you look great it doesn't mean i didn't look great before. come on. i mean if someone liked your outfit and said " hey you look great in that outfit". does that mean they are saying you look bad in anything else? Of course not. A true backhanded compliment would be like" hey you look good since you lost the weight." that has the implication built in of not looking good before. Or if someone said, " since you lost weight ill bet people like you." or " wow, without the weight, youve become attractive." Or "your pretty, now that you look normal." otherwise like i said sometimes a compliment is actually a compliment.

Considering weight loss surgery, need feedback from those who've had it.
Zackly I dont have alot to add to what has been said except this, i loved to eat out and entertain and to tcook. i watch chopped, great british baking show, etc etc. now im two months post op for the sleeve, and my meals are not as creative as they were because of lack of starches. BUT that has made me more creative and i now eat thing i never wouldve imagined, hummus, edamame, chickpeas, heck i made a chili the other day and as im not fond of kidney Beans i used small white beans ( like navy beans but smaler) and i double dup on the onions and added some finely diced celery as well. it came out amazing. I have lost close to 90 pounds since my pre op, and i went from a 5xl shirt and 4 xl pants to two days ago i bought and fit into a 2xl shirt and regular XL pants. I wasnt insulin dependent but i was pre diabetic and now my blood sugar is perfect, my neuropathy is light years better, i used to walk with two canes one to use and one just in case, now i dont need either and I ride the exercise bike for 6 to 7 miles 4 times a week and d a circuit strength training 4 times a week as well. My leg vein problem is gone, my back pain is extremely better, OK enough about me. Here my most important thought, if you do this you are going to need to replace food with something else. like all those thing you listed that you want to do again, golf etc. this surgery will help you over come the hunger and it will help you get to where you can do those things again, just be sure to actually do them, i now take guitar lessons, and build models and stuff like that, as well as going to the gym, the oint i want to make is the surgery can give you the hand you need to get where you want to be but you have to get over food being the big part of your life that it is and make something else take its place. Goo dluck! You Can Do This!

fingers and toes
ring guard is a smart idea, I have to have one put on my wedding ring as well. I don't relish sizing my ring down but losing the weight is necessary.

Week 7 Post-op: Still can't eat most stuff.
seriously man, im 8 weeks out and i havent come close to bread, well once a week i may have a whole grain flax seed small pita it is only 7 carbs and quite small and thin, but thats the closest to bread ive had. sandwiches are long gone my friend, someday perhaps but not for a long time yet, bread expands once it hits your stomach making it very hard to sit well. also if you eat too fast like if that sandwich took you less than 1/2 hour minimum to eat id throw it up as well. subs are the past there are no healthy subs in the future. Jared and subway aint gonna help . There is an app for eating slower if you want to use a timer thats fine too. im betting youre eating the wrong things and eating those wayy too fast. Oh and by Decent meal, if you mean food you used to eat, or restaurant food etc. consider it gone. unless you just want to throw away the surgery then just eat a lot more often youll get right back to where you started. sorry but if you went into this thinking it was a temporary thing, I hate to break it to you. Talk to the Veterans here, listen to how they have to eat and workout just to maintain. this is a lifetime voyage, not a day trip. Good luck to you sir. You Can Do This!

What Love Is Not
I remember back in high school, back before time began it seems, lol There was a visitor who did an assembly about teenage attachments, and one of the only things that stuck with me, is he talked about conditional love. Specifically the words, I love you if, I love you but, and I love you When. It was a great way to let people know that these three phrases all equate to something much different than love. Just something I thought I would share.

Emailing Boss before Approval
i worked with my boss and co workers to be sure everything was great, I am lucky like some, where my workplace has been behind me 110%, but I can understand those who dont want anyone to know. Thier choice. But i let my job know after my first visit to the doc that it was possible and 2 months after that, i was out. thankfully i had them prepared because i literally got the call of approval on a Friday afternoon for surgery 4 days later lol.

Regular Food Anyone?! Crybaby on Deck!
You said " I didn't have this surgery to drink Protein shakes and eat chicken, or basically low carb for the rest of my life!! " Seriously?? did you not know that is exactly what you will be doing for the rest of your life? This isnt a temporary fix where you do some dieting then go back to regular eating and all is well. You are going to have to change your lifestyle and eating habits forever or all this is nothing. I am a bit surprised you don't realize this. Maybe it's just a rant and I am reading into it, but if not, you need to reevaluate what you want out of this and what your willing to do to get it. You Can Do This!

Weight Loss at a Crawl and I'm Worried
Stalls are common as everyone says, heartbreaking to a degree as well. But its still probable that your body is changing to a more fit, more muscular you. I am a big proponent of the measurement effect. that is i measured most parts of my body ( don't go there...) prior to surgery and if I get discouraged I will check those measurements to see the actual changes in writing. Sometimes we associate all changes with the scale, rather than the actual physical changes taking place. It is important to remember this. There's lots of advice, some say to eat more to break a stall, others say that jumping back on liquids only for two days will help to break a stall. Its important to do what everyone here has already said, stick to your plan, keep up the good work, and the results will follow. You Can Do This!

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet
just as an FYI, i had nothing to do with exploding this post..it was not my fault... this time.

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet
cheating is almost inevitable, kind of. i mean i cheated yesteday, in a way i had one m and M , now as opposed to having a whole bag etc. but i felt bad about it after. now in the grand sceme of weight loss is one solitary m and m going to matter? maybe not, but if i weaken for one m and m now wil i weaken for two later and then 5 etc until its back up to just one bag, etc. SO i suggest using all the strength you have to get at least one day under your belt with no cheating just so you know you can do it. It s one day at atime after all, if you can do one day then two is just stringing together two, of those one days. You Can Do This!
