  1. I got fat four years ago, after turning 40 and moving to a city where I had a quality of life. This life consisted of socializing, eating, and drinking, partying - all of this in a city for lovers of good food, good music, and good times. Single, with no kids, and looking to have fun in my new city. At some point I was exercising, but the weight just stopped falling off. I got heavier, and stuff started hurting - back, knees. At 5'2", I got up to 215 pounds, and hated myself and the way I looked! I vowed to stop the madness where it was! A hater was my motivator: she had a really irrational reaction to discovering a friend of hers had possibly had Bariatric surgery. I made it known that if my insurance covered it, I'd consider having it. I quietly started the process, and had the surgery. My first outing with the girls was today - had a nice time eating braised chicken and creamed spinach, with unsweetened ice tea. I'm six weeks post-op, and down almost 30 pounds. Couldn't be happier! :)

  2. ...it's so strange. I'm 6 weeks out, and I haven't craved anything at all - no steak, pizza, none of my "favorites". I'm not hungry, and have to set my alarm to remind me to eat. :( But popcorn? ? OMG! I think I'll fight Godzilla for a handful of popcorn right about now. This time of year, I'd order my usual holiday Garrett's Popcorn out of Chicago for myself, family, and friends. But if I can't have none, then they can't either! :). Good luck, and thanks to everyone for the info.

  3. October 15 sleever here! I have two more days on full liquid diet, then I go to puréed foods for two weeks. Not having any problems (knock on wood) but today I became extremely nauseated after drinking Decaf coffee. This scared me. :( Looking for some delicious puréed food recipes to try because this liquid stage is hard! Oh, and think I hit my stall right out the gate. Total weight loss: 5 pounds since surgery. Not really worried because I'm still healing. I can't eat so the weight will come off sometime.

  4. There is an incredibly bright BRIGHT spot in all this! I have no cravings! ZERO! And I'm doing my recovery in Memphis surrounded by my Louisiana family who has sampled every Memphis "delicacy" during their stay with me: Rendevous Ribs, Gus' Fried Chichen, BB King's for music and dancing- you name it, they are eating it. I have not wanted a bit of it! Their next stop: Dyer's Hamburgers or Westy's. They are sitting here trying to make up their minds. Friday, it's Miss Alcenia's. Me? Not bothered a bit, and I'm thankful. Some of my old faves are striking me as a little repulsive. But I can't wait to get to puréed.

  5. Regarding the first 10 days post op. What were u guys allowed to have ? Im only allowed Water, chicken nd meat froth, diet Jello, and apple juice.

Any other options ? Cause im sooo sick of this diet.

I know, right?? Mine is fourteen days - all liquids post op. I'm drinking low fat cream Soups, waters flavored with Crystal Light, and sugar free Popsicles. Not too much variety on this stage. I also have to get my Proteins in, so each day I try a sample of the ones I purchased, including Isopure, Premiere Protein, Un.Jury, and Syntrax Nectars. One week left then I go to puréed! :)

  6. Same here! Not much weight loss at all. Getting everything in as directed, but I guess it's because we are still "surgery swollen". I weight once a week only. I refuse to keep jumping on that thing every day and risk driving myself batsh*t crazy. :)

So next Wednesday, the scale and I have a date. This morning it said "207". Last Wednesday, the day of surgery, it said 210. Okay...putting it away for a week. I am happy to say I've lost a LOT of inches! Yes!!

  7. I started mine that morning, in the hospital. Funny thing about it is: I hadn't seen it since May! :(

I was horribly embarrassed, but it was okay. The flow only made an appearance when I used the restroom, and it was not heavy enough to require more than a pantiliner.

  8. I'm four days out. Hadn't had much problems getting anything down, and I was munching ice chips like they were going to suddenly disappear on me! :) I have problems when trying to drink my Protein. I become gassy almost immediately, and it's difficult to drink them because of this. So far, Premier, Syntrax Nectar, and even the Isopure give me the gassy bubbles! I have to get in 50 grams of protein in addition to 50 ounces of Fluid per day. I met my goal yesterday and today, but the gas with protein is bugging me. :(

  9. I signed into my BCBS Federal patient portal, and sent an email asking about the status of my packet. Was submitted on 8/27. Approved on 9/2. They emailed me back the next morning and told me they'd approved me. It took four days before my surgeon's office said anything in the way of an official, "You've been approved!! Congratulations!" They did this on 9/7. Also, BCBS had sent a letter to me stating the procedure had been approved. Got that on 9/4. Good luck to you. I've been sleeved four days today! :)

  10. I got major side-eye from folks at the information seminar, because, I guess they were wondering just what the heck I was doing there. I started out at 5'2", 215 pounds. My BMI was 39.3. When I was cleared for surgery, I went to have my labs, ultrasound, chest X-Ray done. The lab techs looked at my paperwork and exclaimed, "Dr. Woodman?!?!" Then they gave me that up and down look, you know, that look. "He must be doing a study or something?" I told them no, and was getting the gastric sleeve on October 15. "Oh..." Up and down look again. Ha! Ha! Been sleeved for three days. So far, so good.

By the way the Vicodin your doctor prescribed was it a liquid or a pill? What was the actual medicine he/she prescribed? Just curious.

It's liquid Lortab. Old script said "10 -325/15ml". New script said "7.5-325/15 ml". Huge bottle of the stuff. Icky sweet! Ugh! And just now I realized I'm in the wrong forum. This is the BYPASS forum, not the SLEEVE forum! Ha! Ha! :-)

  12. Checking in after 3 days! So far, so good, knock on wood! Finally sleeved! I was discharged after 36 hours, and took all my prescriptions to get filled. WARNING: my doctor wrote a script for liquid Lortab in the wrong dosage!! I could not get it filled that night, and the office could not call it in to correct it. Some law was passed on October 6 regarding narcotics. Make sure your doc writes the prescription correctly! I had to go and get another correct script, and bring it to a pharmacy that had it. Since my mom doesn't drive and all my friends were at work, guess who had to jump in her car and get my pain meds?? That's right! A sister had to do what a sister had to do! In the meantime crushed Tylenol worked just as well, but I didn't want to take any chances! Minimal pain, just at the largest incision, and so far no issues. I am walking a lot and am experiencing a good amount of flatulence (hope no one lights a match! Ha! Ha!). Yesterday I didn't do a good job with the Protein, but I'm getting everything today. Sip! Sip! Sip! So far today I got in 30 grams protein, and about 25 ounces of liquid (Apple juice, Water, and Popsicles). Cream of chicken Soup for dinner, and some Jello with unflavored protein for dessert.
