  1. My mother was a diabetic, wore a size 4 clothing and weighed within 10 lbs. of her high school weight all of her life until her death. She forbid sugar and fast food of any kind (which is what made it so attractive to us kids, so we gorged whenever we could), but she had an embroidered pillow (I kid you not) on her bed that read "one can never be too rich, too thin, or have too much cheese popcorn". I think she thought she was doing her best, but years of therapy have taught me otherwise.

  2. I had a Mirena IUD put in place in May before my August surgery. Body took about 4 months to adjust to the IUD and I had no period at all for 8 months. I lost 85 lbs, and then my weight stalled. For three months I have bounced around the same weight + or - 2 lbs. I've tried more exercise, adjusting calories, more Water, increased Protein, etc. Then, out of the blue I get a cycle. Weight still isn't budging. I have my one year anniversary coming up soon and I intend to talk to my doc, but was curious if anyone has experienced the same thing and/or has words of wisdom for me.

  3. I had mine put in place several months before surgery. It took my body about 4 months to adjust to the IUD and then I had no period for 8 months. Suddenly, my weight loss stalled (85 lbs. lost and the scale is NOT MOVING) and then wham! I get a period. Crazy. I hadn't thought the two were connected until I saw your post. Now I'm thinking about it . . . . I'd be curious what your doc says and I intend to follow up with mine!

  4. I'm glad to be reading this topic and responses . . . I'm 10 months out, lost 85 lbs. total and feel great. Weight loss is at a dead stand still. BUT . . .the hair loss has stopped :) I've found that I've become lazy about food journaling, and I can't do that. I've also let carbs slowly creep back in and I can't do that. I've noticed that I'm not getting as much Water in. I have to remind myself that it took me a long time to get obese . . . it's going to take a long time to undo the "head harm" I've done.

    We can do this!

  5. I'm 9 months post-op and sitting stuck at an 85 lb. loss. The plateau has lasted two months and I'm about over it . . . BUT, pants are fitting better and my waist is coming back and my hair has stopped falling out in chunks. I think my body just had to sit here for a while. I'm trying not to be discouraged . . .but I'm not seeing the 1-2 size pant drop you are seeing! Congrats--that's progress!

  6. So frustrating! I'm there with you. The first 80 seems to fall off (I had a few stalls at around 50 lbs, and then again at 75 lbs. lost) and a friend of mine who teaches Physical Education classes at the college level, suggested that I add a few calories two days a week (not junk calories, healthy calories, which for me meant adding a Protein shake before bed). And that helped break the latest plateau. Next time this happens, I'm going to make sure that my journaling is accurate!

  7. I am struggling with this "side effect" as well. I am 6 months post-op and started this journal with very thick, wavy hair. Now it is very thin and brittle. I started taking Biotin and making sure I got Protein in (up to 80-90 g per day) and notice that it has slowed, but not stopped. I've noticed baby hairs coming in and hope this will correct itself! My hairstylist noticed as well--my hair is not growing either (saving some dough on color!). My blood work came back fine at 3 months out--have my six month follow up this week and intend to speak to my dr about it. Realistically however, I'll take the Hair loss along with the 75 lb. weight loss any day! This has been the only side effect I've had :)

  8. My general rule is to avoid anything white. White sugar, white rice, white flour . . . you get the idea. However, not going to lie--I had a few holiday Cookies these past two weeks. But the way I look at it: it was only a few and not a few dozen (and I'm down 71 lbs. since my pre-op diet).

  9. Try hard to not compare your loss to the weight loss of others--I think someone has already said that your body will do what your body will do (male or female). I got into the trap early on of comparing my loss to others on this site (to the point where I just got defeated and stopped logging on). I've come to the slow realization after small milestones are reached (like the compliment from a person that hasn't seen me in a while, or the seatbelt fits on an airplane ride, the fact that my doctor said my blood pressure is now that of a teenager, the reduction of several medications, or the fact that I can bend over to tie my tennis shoes without feeling like I just ran a mile) that my loss is significant to my health, and although it is slower than other folks on this site . . . it is still going in the right direction! You will do great :)

  10. I'm putting this post in the success forum . . . because that is what I consider it :)

I just listed some clothes on eBay that are brand new and with tags that I cannot wear due to sleeve surgery. Here is a link for one sweater, and then you can look at my other items:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/181628339848?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

If you win (and or "buy now") an item and mention that you found the auction on bariatric pal, I will pay shipping as a thank you.

Here's to moving down a size!

  11. I was sleeved on 8/13 and have lost 64 lbs. to date. I was feeling pretty good up until about 4 weeks ago where I just stalled out AND I started loosing hair--big ole clumps of hair. Not only was I frustrated that my weight wasn't moving, I was frustrated that hair was starting to go just when I thought I had avoided that side effect! I thought I was working the plan . . . journaled my food intake, exercising 4x weekly, Water, Protein etc. Then, I decided to log on and research Hair loss and weight stalls since I don't have a support group option near me. Many people said hydrate, up your calories, get your protein in. So I have been consciously doing that for the past few days and FINALLY the stall has broken :)

So thank you my little online support group. You helped without even knowing it :)

  12. I'm there with you! I've been on a four week plateau as well, but I just keep on keeping on. I think (in my case) my body is so in shock it kind of has to settle in to the weight loss. Don't feel sad--rejoice in the positives thus far!

  13. Like the previous post, I am loosing more hair than pounds at this point . . . I'm 4 months post-op, lost 64 lbs. total and my hair just started coming out in clumps this past week. My stylist also noticed at my last color that she didn't have to apply as much as it is not growing. My weight loss has also stalled. I get all the Protein daily and take my Vitamins. I even use WEN hair products, hoping that would help. I'm encouraged to read that it will stop, and although I was aware of the side effect, it still makes me sad to see all that loss on a daily basis off the wrong end of my body!
