  1. I know I'm getting close to capacity when I start burping . . . I've also noticed my nose becomes runny (someone else on this forum said that as well). Crazy . . . .
  2. I experienced that very thing . . . fluids from surgery, I would imagine. Plus, it took my body a while to get used to the "shock" of surgery and drastically reduced calories. Even now, 2 months out, my weight loss is slow and steady . . . and that is just fine by me (I was sleeved on 8/13 and have lost 51 lbs. total). Everyone is different! Hang in there, it will happen.
  3. I have struggled with who to tell and who not to tell (I was sleeved on 8/13). I decided to tell the co-workers immediately around my work area . . . just in case something happened, or I needed their support in some way. They've all (4) been very supportive. I told 2 trusted friends who have been supportive. I didn't tell anyone else figuring it was my business. Now that I've lost 49 lbs, it is starting to "show" and it is interesting how people are responding. I wear a FitBit, so I decided to just tell people that I was eating healthy and exercising. One person in the grocery store just refused to believe me and said "no, really . . . tell me the truth, what are you REALLY doing". Between that comment and the fact that I could do without the judgment of people watching my weight loss closely and critiquing what I eat, I've decided to keep the news to myself.
  4. I was sleeved 8/13 and have lost 47 lbs total. I've been introducing new foods slowly into my diet and tried pineapple for the first time yesterday (fresh spears from Costco). I've been sick all day today. Anyone else experience this (maybe I have a touch of the flu . . . .)?
  5. I had the vertical sleeve by Dr. Hunter at Virginia Mason. I have been thrilled with their level of professional care and Dr. Hunter is an incredible surgeon with top notch credentials and reviews. His entire staff is awesome, and I can't recommend them enough!
  6. Today I am one month post op and so grateful that month is behind me! I've shed 42 pounds (including the pre-op diet phase), have noticed a difference in my energy level and couldn't be happier with that. I've also lost no hair, and wonder if Wen Cleansing Cream has helped with that? (I highly recommend it!). I am bummed that I am "in between" sizes of pants. Started in a 28, but those 26 are just a wee bit too tight on my tummy. Hoping another 10 lbs. will help with that! Thanks for reading and celebrating with me!

    Goodbye 300s!

Congratulations! I can't wait to see the 2 in the front (8 more pounds to go!)
  8. I'm only 1 month post-op and have lost 42 lbs (counting pre-op), and from everything I've read, six months out is a big stall for most people. I'm ready for that and plan to go back to the liquid stage for a few days to (hopefully) break it. I've lost no hair. Started using Wen Cleansing Cream (purchased from QVC), and I think that really helps. I highly recommend it. You'll get past this!
  9. I've been struggling with this issue as well. I live in a small community and have had a number of people ask me "what are you doing? You look great". It's nice to hear, but I feel like the decision was a personal one, and I don't think everyone needs to know. I know that it will probably get around, but I just don't want the watchful judgmental eyes of "what is she eating", "she should have lost more by now" etc, etc . . . . I've noticed that my good close friends (whom I chose tell about the surgery) are positive and supportive. For all the others, I just tell them I made drastic changes in my lifestyle and thank you for the compliment. My two cents.
  10. I've lost 42 lbs. since being sleeved and haven't moved into a new size of clothing yet. So frustrating! Size 28 pants are too baggy on me and size 26 are just a smidge too tight on the tummy. I thought with a 40 lb. loss I'd certainly fit into the next size down.

    "In between" sizes . . . . grrr

I'm glad you said that--I feel like my belly is swollen!
  12. My NUT suggested Morningstar Garden Burgers--you have to chew, chew, chew, but they are getting me through it. That and cottage cheese and tuna with a little light mayo.

    Favorite Vitamins

My NUT recommended Bariatric Advantage and told me to look at it as "a treat". I thought she was crazy, but I have to admit, I look forward to that caramel calcium twice a day now! I couldn't stomach the chewable Multivitamins (I tried Flintstones and bought some Opurity I'm going to try and sell on ebay!), so I bought gummies by One A Day Women's and they go down better. I'm not sure if they are allowable by my NUT, but I figured if she wanted me to take chewy Calcium, chewy multi would work as well!
  14. I am almost three weeks post-op and on the soft/pureed phase foods. For the past three or four days I've noticed that after eating, I have constant burps that last almost thirty minutes. I feel better after burping, but wonder if this is normal for folks? I find it such an adjustment that I can only eat about 4 tablespoons of food (tonight it was refried beans) and I feel as full as Thanksgiving--almost miserable, actually. I wonder if I'm eating too fast? Thoughts . . .

    too many calories?

My Dr. and Nut never mentioned calorie intact, but I am tracking it out of interest. I am 2 weeks post-op and I eat between 600-800 daily. I'm stuffed with that amount!
  16. I am SO BORED with this post surgery all liquid diet. I can hardly wait to graduate to pureed foods. Question--how long after pureed foods did you start introducing foods? What worked/didn't work for you (recognizing everyone is different).

    My Sleeve

I was sleeve the same day and I'm exactly opposite! I'm having hunger pains and am not thirsty at all! I actually mistook my hunger pain for surgical pain at first. Curious what others are feeling!
  18. Absolutely! But, I had to consider that the recently diagnosed diabetes and high cholesterol was going to be worse for my body. In my mind both avenues were hard-I had to pick my hard. I'm 5 days post op. It does get better-and my diabetes meds have already been cut in half!

    just sleeved on Tuesday

I was sleeved on the 13 and have experienced all of what you mentioned. I don't own a recliner, so a big pile of pillows is helping me to sleep. Gas strips are amazing. What I didn't know to expect was the phlegm build up and how it hurts to blow my nose!
  20. I was sleeved on 8/13 and recovery has been rough for me-5 hours in post-op due to high blood pressure and low oxygen. Now that I'm home, days consists of naps, walking, liquid. Every day I feel a little better..

    August Sleevers Check In

Surgery was on the 13th and I'm not going to lie-recovery for me has been rough. I was in post-op care for 5 hours due to high blood sugar, high blood pressure and low oxygen. I was out of it most of the first night. Back pain came in on first day post-open but walking helped that! I still rely on pain meds-not sure if I'm getting all the protein that I need, but am trying. Incisions hurt a little. Looking forward to this phase in my rear view mirror.
  22. I live in the Puget Sound area and have seen their commercials--but never knew anyone that when through them for surgery. I'm having mine tomorrow at Virginia Mason and I started the journey in October. Good luck to you!

    Diabetes

I am on Metformin and my surgery is tomorrow. I was advised to quit the Metformin today as it doesn't "play nice" with anesthesia (their words!). I've been monitoring my blood sugar while on pre-op diet and it has been in the normal range all along. I'm hoping to get off this crap once sleeved. It upsets my stomach so much! Good luck to you.

    pre-op diet, carb withdrawls

I am a carb lover, and I had serious withdraw (along with the lovely sugar and caffeine headaches) the first three to four days. On day 5, I felt like I turned a corner! I had some more energy and really felt good. It's been that way since (I'm on day 13, surgery this Wednesday so tomorrow is all liquids). I lost 18 lbs. Crazy.
  25. I am pre-op (surgery 8/13--yikes!) and am trying to get my wardrobe ready (I will be going back to work 9/15). I currently wear a size 28 pant, and know that everyone is unique, but I'm wondering what should I be prepared for in terms of pants sizes in the next few months. I have a demanding job and won't be able to get much shopping done September-October. Should I have some size 26, 24, 22 and 20 on hand? I've read a lot of posts that say people generally fly through the clothes/sizes post-op. For those of you post-op, what are your thoughts?
