I finally meet with my surgeon this Wednesday, I'll FINALLY get my date that day!!! Come ONNNNN Wednesday afternoon!

Less than a week until I get my date. I'm so jealous of all you who have dates already! We're getting close everyone!

I go next Wednesday for my surgeon meeting and get my date. I'm really struggling between bypass vs. sleeve but I'm leaning more towards sleeve. I just want to be sure to pick the one that will allow me to lose the most weight but is not terribly hard to live with. So, I will get my date next Wednesday! I think it'll be around March 11th.

Hi everyone, just an update. Doctor's appt. went well. My doctor is now "writing the letter" to the insurance company for approval and I'm awaiting a call from the hospital for a date to meet with the surgeon and HOPEFULLY get a tentative surgery date. I'm getting jealous of people who have their dates! Also-hubby's interview went well. THANK YOU GOD!!! UPDATE!!! I FINALLY GOT MY SURGEON MEETING DATE-I meet with him on Feb 25th!

Today is a very important day for my family! I need all the prayers and positive thoughts I can get. I leave at 10:30am for my doctor's appt-should be last of my six month check-ins, and my hubby has a VERY important interview today. Send those positive thoughts and prayers our way. I'll update later. (HOPEFULLY I GET MY DATE!!!)

Send some good thoughts my way-My last check-in for the mandatory 6 months of supervised diet, endless labs, classes, support groups, etc is TOMORROW. I'm really hoping they submit to insurance and start scheduling me for surgery!!! -Katie

Tiny update from me. I have EVERYTHING done needed by my doctor's office!!!!! ( 6 month restricted diet, ultrasounds, labs, sleep test, psych consult and approval, nut consult and approval, support group meetings, nutrition classes, surgery classes, etc.) ..... so......my final check-in appt. is on Feb 11th! Hopefully then they will submit to insurance for approval and THEN I'LL FINALLY GET MY DATE!!!! **Happy Dance** Thanks for the feedback from those who gave it about bypass vs. the sleeve. I see the good in each surgery and I've decided at this point, I'm going to talk to them at my last check-in. I feel like I find conflicting facts everywhere. So, that's my plan!

I just completed my psych consult and got the "green light!" the final appt. is Feb11th! So, they will submit everything to insurance then and give me my surgeon appointment date and tentative surgery date!!! Needless to say I'm counting down until Feb 11th!!!!!

I have Highmark BCBS PPO Blue, I have my psych consult today and last check-in on Feb 11th (6th month supervised diet) I'm going nuts worrying about insurance approval. -K

I read that one of the best things to take to the hospital is a pillow to hold against your belly and gas-x strips that melt on your tongue to get rid of the gas pain after surgery. I need to find those!!!

Hi everyone! I think my surgery will be in March. I go today for my psych consult and Feb 11th for my last of 6 month check-ins. Other than one more lab to submit, I'm DONE! I really hope they submit to insurance...I'm so nervous! Anything I should know for the psych consult today?

I will be having Petrick or Gabrielson at Danville for my surgery. I should be getting my date soon!

Yes. I plan on following the program to the letter. The thought of nutritional deficiencies is scary to me.

I'm in the final month of my 6 month supervised program. I have just a couple of quick questions for you, if you would weigh in that would be great!! This whole time I've been working towards the sleeve. Yesterday in a meeting with the Director of the Bariatric Program-the BIG WIG of the program from my state, he explained that he really recommends the full bypass for me. He said he's seen far too many people who struggle to lose weight in the six month program (me-I go up and down and up and down) that there has been a lot of his patients who go from the sleeve to the bypass. Are there any others who thought they were going to have the sleeve but then switched to the full bypass? Has anyone here HAD the sleeve and was revised to bypass? Are you happy with the bypass choice? Anything I should know? THANK YOU!!!!!

I will be going through this in just a couple of weeks, I feel for you! I think the waiting for insurance approval will be the hardest part!!!

Hi ladies, I think I'm getting CLOSE to getting my date!!! I had my ultrasound, surgery class, meeting with the Director of the Hospital Bariatric program, and a metabolic breathing test yesterday. According to my checklist I have to do my psych clearance-which is next Tues, one more lab test (stool sample...ugh) and my last appt which is now scheduled for Feb 11th! So, they will submit to insurance after that appt! I'm excited but I have to admit the nerves are REALLY kicking in. I'm praying for favor with the insurance company. I have struggled with the losing weight during the program, I go down, then up, down then up. I hope they don't deny me for that reason, I've done everything they require. So, also-can I ask for some advice? I was sort of thrown a little curve ball yesterday. This whole process I have been trying to work towards having the sleeve. I met with the BIG WIG of the Bariatric Program of my hospital yesterday. He told me that after reviewing my charts, progress, etc. that he recommends that I have the full bypass. He said that he has personally seen quite a few patients who don't succeed with the sleeve and eventually go on to have it revised to the bypass. I think I looked like a dear in headlights!!! Thankfully the surgery class was right afterwards so I got some questions answered about things I was worried about. FOR EXAMPLE-the malabsorption thing. It was explained to me like this. The malabsorption component means that my body would absorb less of the fats and sugars out of the foods I eat, thus resulting in better weight loss. It's not like it's going to cause HARM, it's a good thing...an extra bit of help. If I would eat, let's say, an oreo-full of sugar. I would have the dumping syndrome and probably bring it back up. It's an extra level of feedback that my body would have stating NOPE YOU CANT EAT THAT! Trust me, it won't take me long to not try to eat sugars and bad things if I'm throwing them up!! So even though it's a more complicated surgery, because of what the doctor reccomends, do I try for the sleeve or go-ahead with the full bypass? (Cross-posted)
