  1. Three month check-in. I'm down a total of 54 pounds...including pre-op diet. I'm sitting at 196. I have to be honest about two things. 1. I have GOT to start exercising more, I know it will help with my weight loss and how I look! 2. I'm really getting scared of the amount I can eat now, it seems to be so much larger. I will start weighing my food to see just how much I'm eating but my nutritionist not to eat over a cup of food at each meal and I think I'm pretty close!
  2. I hear you Stacy! I am struggling with after dinner sweets cravings too! Here's something kinda of silly that has really helped me. After dinner I brush my teeth and then do a generic listerine mouthwash for a full minute. Because I've done the mouthwash and brushed my teeth, I think it can sometimes trick my brain into not wanting to eat anything else.
  3. I hear you! I just said to a friend that the farther out from surgery I go I really have to fight hard against old habits. I'll be honest with you. I'm not getting in the required amount of Protein either! Ever since surgery I cant stand Protein shakes, they make me gag. So I need to get creative with my foods, switch them up a bit. Try to take one day at a time. Try to get your emotions figured out with your therapist and when you've taken care of you, then Mr. Right will come along. ((virtual hugs))
  4. Awesome!!! My HW was 256, SW 234,CW 198. I had surgery on March 24th so I'm a little over three months out. My hair is falling out too!
  5. How's everyone doing?
  6. I just got back from my doctor's office where I talked this through with her at length. She said because the sleeve is a restrictive procedure only, you don't have to worry about it not getting absorbed by the body. She does recommend using a barrier method (condoms, or switch to nuva-ring) for 3 months. Gastric bypass patients are told to use the barrier method for good because of the absorption issues.
  7. Ok, ladies, for those of you who use the "pill" what were you advised to do after surgery? Were you told to increase the dose, also use condoms? (If condoms, how long did you have to use the double-up method?) Thanks for any advice! -K
  8. You know, I've been thinking a lot about this subject. Before we had surgery, we would try to eat well, make bad choices sometimes, and then beat ourselves up about it. That is a HARD habit to break. Try your best to not beat yourself up. Are you logging your food on myfitnesspal? I haven't been but just started as a way to keep me in check. We're all in this together and I believe just about 75% of this journey is mental! One small step at a time and before you know it, you'll have walked a mile
  9. I have a question: My doctor seems adamant that I use two different forms of birth control now that I'm sleeved. I've been taking the pill for years (hubby will get a vasectomy sometime in the near future.) Is there something about bariatric surgery that makes the pill ineffective? Was anyone else told this? Of course, I do not want any babies I'm just wondering...... Thanks, K
  10. Hi All! I'm checking in. I'll be two-weeks post-op tomorrow. I'm struggling a little with getting in water and protein. The past few days, I feel like I can only get in around three bites and boom, I'm full. I really don't want to get dehydrated so I always have a bottle of water or Isopure in my hand. I don't see the doctor again until 4/15 when I'll begin some meats and soft foods. My diet consists of Water, Isopure, a little yogurt, some scrambled eggs, and some baked ricotta for supper. I feel like I'm not getting enough of anything, really. But overall, I feel good, I'm not in a lot of pain. Today is my first day back to work and I'm taking it easy with a half-day. I feel like things use more energy now!
  11. Hi everyone! I was sleeeved on the 24th. My recovery is slow going but I'm hanging in there. I have a sudden adversion to protein shakes but I'm hoping it passes soon. I've been drinking Isopure as much as possible But I'm not getting in the amount of protein by far. I'll do the best I can and go from there. Has anyone had problems with bm afterwards???
  12. Yes! Only 6 more days...but it seems to me like they are dragging!! -Katie
  13. We will be under anesthesia for both intubation and removal. I don't know if this will help but I just watched my grandfather get intubated when his heart stopped in his hotel room. It's actually not as big as you think..... It only looked like the width of a highlighter. They have to put the scope down as well so it can't be that big.
  14. I'm having surgery next week, the 24th and it's starting to set in. I have already made a list of things to pack for the hospital and compile all the meds I need for afterwards. I'm so ready to get this overwith but the days seem to be dragging!!! Also-I have to admit. My family ate hoagies for dinner last night and I had ONE inch of a sub....OMG it felt so good to CHEW something. I won't cheat again because surgery is so close but man, it tasted so good. -K
  15. I'm in Pennsylvania and I'm having surgery on Tuesday, March 24th.
  16. Add me to the March 24th group!!! I just got back from pre-op testing....it's the final countdown! Here's what I'm planning on taking in my bag to hospital-am I forgetting something? Gas-x strips Chapstick Toothbrush and toothpaste Brush and hair-ties MAYBE: Robe and slippers (may not need if gowns aren't showing my undies!) change of comfy clothes for ride home pillow for ride home Cell/Charger MAYBE: Nook, charger and extension cord
  17. My surgery date is March 24!! HI! I'm Katie, from PA, 32 years old, married with two-kids 7 and 10, I work full-time and I'm also a student at Career Step. I would LOVE to keep in touch with people who are at the same stage I am! I'm currently on Day 3 of my liquid diet and I have to say this is much harder than I thought it was. I am only allowed Protein shakes, Jello, sugar free pudding, milk, Water, Isopure, and tomato Soup, popsicles. I didn't anticipate the awful headaches and tiredness! Hi everyone!!!
  18. Starting my liquid diet today. I'm SO jealous of those of you who can eat veggies and regular food on your pre-op diet. I'm on yogurt, broth, water, popsicles, protein shakes......yayyyyyy. Lol!
  19. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm only allowed protein shakes, broth, jello, sugar free pudding, popsicles. No veggies or anything. Can I just be honest, I'm terrified. I also HAVEN'T heard back from insurance....I think it's going on two-weeks. Ugh, nerve wracking!
  20. I'm am! To be truthful, the pre-op liquid diet makes me nervous but hey, once day at a time, right?
  21. I cant remember if I posted here or not. I've got my date! March 24th!
  22. I just got my date yesterday, March 24th, and they will NOW submit to insurance for approval. **Fingers crossed!** I think it's so weird they wait so long to submit.
  23. I go today to meet with my surgeon and get my date!!! Please send me good thoughts and prayers, I'm praying for favor with both the surgeon and the insurance co. -Katie
